Warrant Return Reveals New Morbid Details In Mohler Case

Some of the young women who reported childhood sexual abuse at the hands of the Mohlers told police Burrell Mohler Sr. and his oldest son told them they removed jewelry from murder victims, search warrants have revealed. The victims said it was "so that the bodies could not be found with metal detectors."

In a search warrant, one of the alleged victims described pieces of paper previously seized "as 'codes' used to identify names and locations."

The woman remembered the codes being written inside Louis L'Amour books, according to the search warrant.

I was just getting around to closing the Lettington family website from last night when I noticed two more entries in the notes. If you look under Ollie Belle Byers and Mellissa Burrell on this page it tells about double cousins (with a capital D) and although I still can't sort it out completely, thought you might be interested....

IWannaKnow--I think that's definitely allowed and it was very helpful. I ran a check on the porn video about "F***ing Grandma and Grandpa" and it really exists. It's another whole genre I didn't even know about. The site (not going to link but you can find it through Google) says that is was released on DVD in 2001. I wonder, though, if the videos retrieved during the searches were DVDs or videos? I'll bet these porn titles were re-released on DVDs and the film is actually much older.

Once again, the details are what get me. The Louis L'Amour books and the alleged victims remembering that there's code inside of them. The mention the Sackett series which follows the lives of two brothers and their escapades. The maps are chilling. I'm sure as we're sleuthing, there's a roomful of LE with dry erase boards and maps, hard at work.

Has anyone been able to compile a list of missing persons from that area from the 80s. We have so little to go on, though. I found it very interesting that porn involving Black "Hookers" showed up. I wonder if that might be a clue?

The "child sexual abuse" pamphlet doesn't worry me as much as it did at first. I'm thinking that could be a public health sort of pamphlet discussing the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse. That would have been real helpful.

Mysteriew--I wanted to correct something in a previous post of yours. Jeffrey Lundgren did serve time in Ohio but he was executed there in Oct. 2006. His wife and son are doing multiple life terms. Here's a link about his execution. Also notice that there's a link on this page to "cult photos". Those photos list the names of the cult members if anyone would like to sleuth them out.

If my math is correct, Lundgren was moving about between Missouri, Ohio, Southern California, and West Virginia throughout the 80s. He was finally stripped of his RLDS lay pastor status in 1987 but continued on with his core followers.

I was interested in the most recent search and the retrieval of the box marked Jeff/Alabama. I can't find anything to link Lundgren with Alabama or the Mohler family at all, though.

One thing I did find is that the barn in Kirtland, OH where the Avery family were slaughtered has been torn down and a new church built on the land. The church is called New Promise and doesn't look to have any connection to the Community of Christ. I have very mixed feelings about that spot being a church. I understand the idea but I still find it creepy. I don't know how you'd be able to move past that or what you would tell new members and children. It seems like a vibrant church, however, so maybe it's a very good thing.

Just wanted to clarify that Jeff Lundgren met his "maker", whomever that might be.

Missizzy - I've been thinking about Randy Leech and the Independence Center. I understand we are searching for missing persons who might be from that area, but the girls stated they abducted this person from the mall...it could have been anyone at a mall. Just passing through. No relatives to report them missing, KWIM? I in my mind, this person doesn't necessarily have to be within driving distance of MO, he could have been on the highway driving coast to coast and decided he needed something at the mall and had the bad luck to run into the Mohlers...

That is not to say that I don't think Randy could be the person the girls are talking about, it just seems odd to me that he would have been at the mall, unless buying a gift for the party? Meeting someone there? It was mentioned there were much closer places to him for gift buying - maybe it was a special store that only existed in this mall (like Spencer Gifts type of thing??)? This line of thinking would place him at the mall before going to the party, which also seems odd given the description of events. Am I making any sense? He would have been drunker than cooter brown by the time he reached the mall, but that would make him an easy target, IMO. Plus, the mall would have been closed at that time of night. What am I missing here?

I remembered seeing something about Jeffrey Lundgren and Jackson County, MO. I know he was born there but he also returned to Holden, Missouri (where Kathryn Johnson, one of his followers was from) after the murders and some of his followers were extradited to there. Holden, MO is 24 miles south of the Bates City farmhouse. The farm was purchased by Burrell Sr. in 1974 and sold in 1995 to Burrell Jr. so the Mohler family was at that farm all through the years of Jeff Lundgren's cult days:

"In 1987 Jeff settled with his cult in a fifteen-acre farm in rural Ohio. There, according to cult members, they were intending to meet God in the final days of planet Earth. However, God would be angry with the cult, due to "man's sins." Lundgren, a resourceful man, figured that if he sent five of his own, the Avery's (whom he considered the weakest family in the cult), before the "judgement bar," God would take out his anger on them.

At the time of their arrest police and ATF agents found an arsenal of weapons tucked in the room with them. His wife and nineteen-year-old son received five consecutive life terms for the doomsday killings of the Avery family. Jeff was sentenced to death. The remaining cult members (except for Larry) were sentenced to various lengths of imprisonment."

I still haven't seen a reference by the girls as to the age of the man. I would think that to little girls, he would have looked huge and would have been described as a man rather than a teen. He didn't look 17 to me in his class photo. He looks as if he's in his 20s.

Have you noticed that his mother's grey Ford sedan has never been found? I don't think anyone reported seeing him leave the party. He was described as "messed up" on something which seemed out of character. I wonder if someone at the party drove him to the mall as a drop off point to meet the Mohlers?

I also was drawn to that one particular "tip" that came in to police about teens seeing a male body which had his face destroyed. That raised some flags given what the girls reported. Also, the girls mentioned "multiple murders" and there's that other "tip" of there being three young men killed.

It all boggles the mind and then you think of Anthony Sowell. Just how many victims does it take to catch a killer? The part I find hard to accept is that a lone serial killer is one thing. Men being killed in front of a group is quite another. Someone will not be able to keep the secret. Although, this might be the beginning of what we're seeing now. JMO

I have to admit that I haven't followed too many missing person cases. Is it typical to have this much interest in the Randy Leach case over twenty years later--websites, blogs, a play, forums? Just wondering.

I'm also very concerned that one or more of the Lundgren followers could have fallen prey to the Mohlers when they were in Holden, MO. They would have done anything Jeff told them to do and that farmhouse was not far away. This would have been in winter 1989. And remember, some of the Mohler men and Jeff shared a strong interest in kinky sex and porn. Sick guys like this usually don't want to share but......

I just can't see how one man and those girls could have gotten him in their vehicle in the first place as, like you point out, this was a big, strong kid; or, for that matter, how he'd wind up at a mall in Indepence---though if he were still disoriented he may have been taken/hitchhiked/driven there. But he'd have no reason to have gone to that mall, as Kansas City had more attractive malls, much closer---Oak Park was the big one on the nearer-to-him, Kansas side of the city, back in 1988, and there were others.

I agree. There is nothing at Independence Center that he couldn't get at Oak Park, or even back then, Bannister. Independence Center is a low rent mall, relatively speaking.

It's not a straight shot between KS and Independence Center, either. Back then IC was in the middle of no where.

Missizzy - I completely agree that the girls would consider him a huge, older man. I remember being 16, standing in a public restroom, and a little girl about 5-7 asked me how old I was, I said "16" and the response was "Wow!". I could tell she thought I was ancient. To a child, everyone is a giant and age is relative.

I read that party goers said he was "messed up" and couldn't walk straight when he left the party, IIRC, and yes I remember that mom's car was never found.

Something that occurs to me, if this was a cult, silence is mandatory and if you or your family are complicit,they aren't going to squeal. Something I read here talked about 2 other people trying to stop the murder of Randy and were killed, but why would cult members try to stop it?? The thing about the face does give some legitimacy, but as you stated, his case is still a big deal. I really don't know what to think.
