luvbeaches--That's pretty priceless. A man who's truly sick doesn't usually have time to respond to reporters. I don't know if they've mentioned the option to Darrel but most jails allow a sort of lightweight walker. That might be helpful. Nice to see that he's still got some genuine Christian spirit.

I have to ask if anyone saw the photos of the two women standing by the court room doors? The lady on the left is one of the men's daughters or wives, IIRC. I've seen her photo on Facebook. So, I guess they're standing by their men even if they might not be contributing funds.

So, I'm a bit confused. Darrel Mohler says he needs out of jail as he has a need for oxygen. The evaluation shows he does not. But he still gets out for $4000. The judge also agrees not to include his new wife's income.

How many times has this guy been married? Last time I checked he was married to a much younger wife and they had a nine year old daughter together. He has numerous other adult children by various wives and multiple teen-aged grandchildren.

What gives with this? For some reason, I thought church going, Christian people plighted their troths forever more to their beloveds. And what does the Community of Christ and LDS church say about these multiple wives (as far as I know they're not plural, but who knows??) and the issue of eternal marriage? These guys must have God scratching his head in confusion.

Yeah it is funny that for such a strict church, they still seem to have divorces then remarriages. I have seen in other Mormon cases that they have had divorces..... even some of the Jeffs community appeared to have gotten divorces.

Judge Appoints Public Defender For Burrell Mohler Jr.

POSTED: 4:21 pm CST December 22, 2009
UPDATED: 4:47 pm CST December 22, 2009

The judge issued Burrell Mohler Jr. a public defender, even though his combined income with his wife is $2,400 more than the income limit, according to an attorney.
....

However, the judge said his decision could be overruled during Mohler's next court hearing on Jan. 12.

Darrell Mohler, of Florida, also received a favorable ruling on Tuesday. His judge amended his conditions of bond, allowing him to pay 10 percent of the original $40,000. Conditions stipulate he must have no contact with anyone younger than 17, no contact with the alleged victims or possible witnesses and he must produce a plan for where he will live until the case is complete, since his home is in Florida.

Darrell Mohler, who is suffering from several illnesses, will be in court for an arraignment on Jan. 4.

Just thinking out loud, but in this type of church, if the spouse leaves the church, is it easier to get a divorce sanctioned? If these wives found out they were living with child molesters, or in the least child pornographers, I could see them becoming disillusioned with their church and leaving it altogether when they leave the marriage.

Judge Lowers Bond For One Mohler For Medical Reasons
Rob Low Meagan Kelleher, FOX 4 Web Producer
December 22, 2009

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mo. - Two of the six Mohler men accused of sex crimes against children in their family were back in Lafayette County court on Tuesday. One wanted a lower bond and the other wanted a court appointed public defender. Each man got what he wanted from the judge.

So why can't we film a video response to Mr. Mohler? That's not too classy, IMO, on a case as serious as this.

The video you linked to, Mysticrose, also shows Darrel's new wife (they clearly identify her). She, just like his wife prior to her, is much younger than him. Notice that she's surrounded by a number of other women, presumably family members. I hope to high heck that the previous wife got full custody of their little girl.

I agree not too classy given the circumstances, it goes to show what an arrogant butt he is....

It doesn't sound like anyone is in any big hurry for ol' Darrel to get home....given it's gonna take a couple more weeks to come up w/the $4K...I hope it takes *longer*.

@mysticrose -- thanks for pointing out Darrel 'flicking off' (as Misty Croslin calls it) the reporters....I totally missed that yesterday when I got so frustrated because the audio is too low for me to hear it here at work.

Yessireee -- Ol' Darrel is a real piece of work.

Does anyone have the ability to sleuth out the number of wives these guys have had? I know we can't include names but I'd sure be interested in the number of wives and their ages.

Roland's wife has been identified in the media as KM. She's the one who was allowed to speak to her husband concerning the sale of some property. I wonder if she's been his only wife?

David is married and celebrated his 25th anniversary in the last year or so. I would presume he's had only the one wife, given his age.

Jared has not been married IIRC.

So, that leaves Burrell Sr., Burrell Jr., and Darrel. All three have been very busy in the marriage dept.

Can we look objectively at this situation for a minute and put a bit of political and social "correctness" aside? I know you're all gasping that Missizzy could step away from being Miss PC Sheriff but it has been known to happen.

OK...what is the attraction for these guys? How in the world do they keep finding women, especially young women? They are not horrid looking men but they're surely not lookers. I don't see any mention of family money. None of them are professionals with status. What is it? And don't women get a tad leery of a guy who happens to mention on the first date that he has three, four, or five ex's? And what about taking on all the debts and child support issues from previous marriages? Do these subsequent wives have children they bring to the marriages. Man, that would open up a "ball of worms" (as my grandson says)!! We know it happened at least once with a later wife of Burrell Jr.'s.

I've carefully watched the videos of the family members in court and paused them so I can study them. The women who are showing up in court look as if they are dressed in "modest" clothing in keeping with a fundamental religion. From photos on the Community of Christ site, this is not the way most of the congregation dresses.

I know that Burrell Jr. was excommunicated from the LDS church across the street and I don't know if his family still attends there. Once again, though, that's a large church and it would strike me as odd if it were that strict as far as dress style. I found a photo of Darrel's previous wife on the internet (about a totally unrelated issue) and she dressed in more "modern" style. But, the photos I saw on some of the Facebook pages of the family also seem highly conservative.

Is there anyone who can speak to any of this? Is it typical in the LDS or the C. of Christ church to dress in this fashion and to marry again and again? Also, how does it work when a member of a church who believes in eternal union, when there's a divorce? Are you slated to meet up again with your first spouse in heaven even if you couldn't stand each other here on earth?

This case has left me with zillions of questions.

Hope I am not being redundant. Only a part-timer in this thread now as everything is moving so slowly, not to mention this is one of the most disgusting, horrific cases I've ever dealt with.

My question is: what ever happened with the square box that was scanned under the concrete on the farm? has that been investigated/dug up? is LE just being quiet, or have they really found nothing of consequence?

thanks for any information, very frustrating

  • #573
Lemon--No one knows. It's extremely frustrating. You'd think if they found nothing, they would report that but LE's being very quiet. Also, nothing about murder or kidnapping charges. This case is going to move slowly I think.

Even $4000 is quite a bit to pay to go home to Florida when you have to be back on Jan. 11th. At least he'll have his cane. Wouldn't you like to know what his new wife has to say? Do you think she has any questions about family history?

If I were Darrel I sure as heck wouldn't want to get in the car with Missizzy or anyone else on WS!! Nope, would not get in...would go right back into the jail for protection. Maybe his neighbors will be happy to see him. Wasn't he the one who helped somebody clean their garage?

I thought Sr. had 2 wives, Jr. had 4 or 5, and Darrel 2 (or 3?)...I'll look thru the first thread to see if we saved the info from the now 'disappeared' genealogy site.

ETA: OK -- looks like Sr's wives = 2, Jr's = 4 (see this post by IWannaKnow http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4468285&postcount=614 ) .... in mid-November one of Darrel's cousins said he was in the middle of a divorce (imagine that)....and I thought Jr. was the one who'd only been married 4 months when he was arrested...so was that Jr's wife of 6 months in the news video?

Miss, When he was named after the fact I somewhat questioned his involvement. After what they are charged with, then flipping the bird I think he is exactly where he belongs. And then the BS with the oxygen that was proven he does not need. well. It is interesting the wives won't put the homesteads up for collateral. :woohoo:

I know this must be posted on one of our early threads but I just re-read it and refreshed my memory on a lot of issues. There's also names included which we can't post here for those who might be interested.

With so many links mysteriously disappearing, it's nice to see this has hung around.

While things are quiet in this case, I've been doing some reading. I've found a number of ex-Mormon sites. Most include what are called "exit stories". It is absolutely heart-breaking how many members have left due to sexual abuse by church-going relatives or at the hands of church elders.

I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but almost without exception, these people miss the church and blame themselves to a large degree. They honestly believe that they somehow should have fought harder to protect their "purity". This particular story really touched me. There's a link at the bottom of the page to email the author. I don't know why, but it seems that we've seen her name before.

http://www.exmormon.org/whylft61.htm
"Julie" says the abuse began at age 7. This is the same age the Mohler children were when their alleged abuse began.

Yes, and if you go back and read our earlier posts, there's some info about the young girls getting their CTR (Choose the Right) rings at that age. Makes me wonder.

I noticed something last night that I hadn't before. We've talked about how the RLDS (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church) changed into the Community of Christ Church in 2001. I know that David is a member of this church and possibly some of the others who were arrested. David actually works at Graceland University, a Community of Christ affiliated college.

Burrell Jr. left the Community of Christ in the early 90's and joined the mainstream LDS church which is reportedly across the street from the Community of Christ Church in Independence. That is where his wife disclosed the children's abuse to a Bishop Tonga. Bishop Tonga asked Mr. Mohler about the abuse and he denied it and thus, no report to LE was made at the time.

I just discovered, that Roland was/is active in another church entirely, the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If my research holds up, this is the original RLDS church which chose not to split off and become the Community of Christ due to the ordination of women. This looks to be a much more fundamentalist church and might explain why Roland's female relatives are dressed in what I would describe as "modest" clothing. JMO

http://restorationchurch.net/images/junejuly2009 web.pdf

Several of the Mohler young adults are involved in this church and the Community of Christ. One of the accused actually was reported as helping out at a church camp (funded by Americorps) with children informally this summer and another is a youth pastor with the Community of Christ in Florida. The church is very important within this family.

My personal feeling is that this is the way the men hid in "plain sight".

Can someone briefly recap for me what the case status is? I am really interested, but don't feel like reading back several pages to figure out whats going on.

Any new charges?

Who all is still being held in jail?

Anyone make bond??

Any new victims??

Any new accusations??

Why the hold up??

TIA!
