FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOX) – Getting him removed is a top cause of Ferguson protesters, but U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill tells KMOX that she supports St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch.

“If you do not believe Bob McCulloch can be fair, then you should rest assured, it is a good thing that we have made sure the federal government is checking his work,” she says.

The senator says the Department of Justice is, essentially, looking over McCulloch’s shoulder.

Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot dead on August 9 by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. Some witnesses say the teenager assaulted the officer at the outset and tried to grab his gun; other witnesses say Wilson was the aggressor. All accounts agree that Brown ran and then turned back ... but to attack or surrender? Below is a timeline from both perspectives on what may have happened that afternoon.

What witnesses say/What law officials and a Wilson family friend say.

Reuters reports that state authorities are meeting two to three times a week to draw up contingency plans in case of riots if Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson is not charged in the Aug. 9 shooting death of Michael Brown. Activists against police brutality are calling for support in St. Louis for an upcoming “Weekend of Resistance.” Protests in the city reignited following the killing Wednesday of an African American teen by a white police officer.

Following the death of Vonderrick Myers Jr., in which a police officer allegedly shot the 18-year old black teenager 17 times, (AS PER AUTOPSY, 6-7 TIMES) a wave of clashes has erupted between law enforcement and protesters in the city for two consecutive nights, with hundreds of protesters taking to the streets.

Ferguson October National Mobilization begins with ‘Weekend of Resistance’

Activists are planning to step up protests over the weekend, preparing four days of protest marches and rallies against police abuse with thousands of participants.

One march is set to start in St. Louis at 3:00 pm Friday, and is expected to last for at least two hours.

“To kick off our Weekend of Resistance, we will march on Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch’s office to demand Justice for Mike Brown. In order to get that, he needs to step aside,” the Ferguson October website said. The online resource was created to direct Ferguson October National Mobilization protest activities.

More on the shooting of Vonderrick Myers Jr. that the above media 'left out'...............

Preliminary autopsy results showed that Vonderrit Myers Jr. was shot from six to seven times in the lower extremities, said Dr. Michael Graham. The fatal shot entered the right cheek and was recovered in the body, Graham said.

Sen. Jamilah Nasheed had suggested at a press conference earlier Thursday that the teen had been shot in the back of the head, but the autopsy did not find any gunshots to the back of Myers' head.....The teen had a gun and fired at least three shots at the officer, who returned fire, the chief said. The teenager attempted to fire more but his gun jammed, Dotson said.

CLAYTON • A stream of eyewitnesses has been testifying in secret before a grand jury considering whether to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown near the Canfield Green apartments in Ferguson.

One Canfield resident — who said he saw the killing of Michael Brown from start to finish and talked to the grand jury recently — has given the Post-Dispatch an account with some key differences from previous public statements from other witnesses.

Among the recollections of the witness, who agreed to an interview on the condition that his name not be used, were:

* After an initial scuffle in the car, the officer did not fire until Brown turned back toward him.
* Brown put his arms out to his sides but never raised his hands high.
* Brown staggered toward Wilson despite commands to stop.
* The two were about 20 to 25 feet apart when the last shots were fired.

He would not detail what he told the grand jury but said the members seemed fair and asked a lot of questions.

Police Officer in Ferguson Is Said to Recount a Struggle

By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT, MATT APUZZO and JULIE BOSMANOCT. 17, 2014

WASHINGTON — The police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., two months ago has told investigators that he was pinned in his vehicle and in fear for his life as he struggled over his gun with Mr. Brown, according to government officials briefed on the federal civil rights investigation into the matter.

The officer, Darren Wilson, has told the authorities that during the scuffle, Mr. Brown reached for the gun. It was fired twice in the car, according to forensics tests performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The first bullet struck Mr. Brown in the arm; the second bullet missed.

The forensics tests showed Mr. Brown’s blood on the gun, as well as on the interior door panel and on Officer Wilson’s uniform. Officer Wilson told the authorities that Mr. Brown had punched and scratched him repeatedly, leaving swelling on his face and cuts on his neck.

Issues emerge with some grand jury witness testimony:

(CNN) -- The grand jury in the case of Michael Brown's shooting didn't just face an onslaught of witnesses with conflicting memories of what happened the day white police officer Darren Wilson killed Brown, an unarmed black teenager. It also heard from witnesses who couldn't be believed at all.

(MSNBC) Ferguson: Was 'Witness 40' even there?

Chris Hayes examines the strange case of the witness who admitted to racist thoughts and statements and was allowed to testify to the Darren Wilson grand jury despite substantial holes in her story.

Key Witness In Michael Brown Case May Not Have Actually Seen Him Die, Report Says

McElroy changed her story about why she was in Ferguson, has a history of making racist comments online and once inserted herself into another case by lying to police. The outlet also said McElroy "was nowhere near Canfield Drive on the Saturday afternoon Brown was shot to death."

The Smoking Gun confirmed that Sandra McElroy, a 45-year-old St. Louis resident who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, is Witness 40, the person whose testimony aligned with Wilson's account of how he killed Brown, an unarmed black teenager, in Ferguson, Missouri, in August.

McElroy's journal, where she described seeing the shooting, says she went to Florissant, Missouri, a town near Ferguson, on the morning of Brown's death to "understand the Black race better so I stop calling Blacks ******s and Start calling them People."

McElroy's ignorant, racially biased, difficult-to-understand, unnecessary, grammatically challenged, not-actually-sarcastic eyeroll of a comment is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how this N-word-using, bipolar woman with a penchant for thrusting herself into newsworthy events influenced the grand-jury investigation into Brown's death.

That's because McElroy is also Witness 40, one of the alleged eyewitnesses whose testimony to the grand jury strongly supported Wilson's version of events. Witness identities are secret, but McElroy admitted she's Witness 40 to The Smoking Gun after the site published an article outing her.

Shall we start a thread with discussion as to whether or not McCullough should be indicted for obstruction of justice for providing the Grand Jury with outdated case law?
