MO - Woman escapes from Excelsior Springs house, says she's been held against her will since September 2022

  • #261
From listening to a couple of interviews from the lady across the street she answered both questions. She has lived there 3 years, he, longer. He was home a lot working on cars in the driveway (her house is across the street from the back of his house so facing his garage). He also only opened the garage door about a foot or so off the ground, never all the way up. He'd "roll" in or out. She just figured it was broken and wouldn't go up any higher. It never entered her mind that he was hiding something nefarious inside.

He was also outside a fair bit playing with his son and dog, playing with his drone, and with his son while be played on the trampoline he got him.

As for being the "creepy" neighbor guy... he was definitely not friendly and "very to himself" and "a little weird". She even called him "mountain-man-ish". She went over one day to introduce herself and he pretty much barked at her and was NOT friendly in the least. She got the hint, left, and didn't attempt conversation again.

A neighbor saw something drop off the back of his truck (a "huge thing of hand sanitizer") so he retrieved it and went to his front door. He knew the guy was home because he had just seen him come home with his kid so he knew he was in there. Dude wouldn't acknowledge that someone was knocking at his door. The guy left it on his porch and was walking down the sidewalk when TH finally opened the door with a gruff "What! Why are you here!?". He explained he saw something fall off his truck and returned it. TH just picked it up and slammed the door closed.

Pizza guy said he'd always ask them to come inside for the tip (several people do that so it's not unusual) but it was "weird with this guy". Weird as in a "bad vibe, quiet, people usually invite you into their living room because they want to talk to you. He'd be silent after I walked in".

Neighbor (Missy) and Pizza guy - Excelsior Springs Police Department Investigating Kidnapping
Thanks for the add info. IMHO when you have some one who makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up might be best to keep an eye on them. Yikes.

I've seen a son mentioned. Has anyone seen his age or if he visited or lived with dad? It appears the victim was well hidden but to casually play ball with your son (IMHO maybe trying to appear some what normal) while a woman is restrained, harmed, and locked up in your home is several notches beyond creepy. IMO it is a difficult choice if you have a neighbor who behaves strangely but you don't witness any crimes. I shudder when thinking of those poor women who have survived years being held and no one noticed anything.

AGREED!!!!
Another thing I use as a barometer is if dogs don't like a particular person. Dogs are keenly aware of things humans can't see (or ignore). I always listen to my gut feelings.

I've seen somewhere between 6-8. Someone else might know for sure.

For me, it's not of my opinion that he was trying to appear normal because he failed that when his neighbor, Missy, introduced herself, and a guy returning something that fell off the back of his truck wasn't greeted very nicely. Slamming the door isn't trying to appear normal. Both instances would have been his chance to "put on a happy face" and pretend to be nice and normal until be could politely get away. Yet his actions called attention to his weirdness. Even the pizza guy said he'd invite him in to get a tip (I'd have it ready since I knew something I had ordered was coming), yet didn't talk to him once inside which is a tad odd.

So IMO, him being outdoors with his boy wasn't about trying to appear normal, my guess is it's to keep his son from hearing noises in the basement. Maybe she got noisy down there from time to time. His yard is fairly large (wedge shape corner lot) so lots of space out there to be clear from noises coming from the basement.

All MOO.

son 8, resided with dad primarily and enjoyed liberal visitation with mother on weekends (read that in an article that gave lots of detail about the custody situation). The woman actually made her escape when TH went to take his son to school. Victim seized an opportunity.

I too find the young son living in that house while all that crazy was going on most disturbing.

There's an unsolved murder from last year in Clay County. The woman's body was found south of Excelsior Springs. She was last seen at a gas station in Independence MO about 12 miles from Prospect Ave in KCMO>

Feb 17, 2021
"CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Department says unidentified remains last week are a missing 45-year-old woman from Independence. Now, Alesha Jane Reade’s family is pleading for answers.

"Independence Police said Reade was last seen Feb. 9, at the Fav Trip off South 23rd Street."

"Two days later, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said they found her remains in a rural area north of 210 near JJ Highway. Captain Robert Hays said they will work to get justice for her family."

Her family said Alesha wasn’t perfect, she lived a hard life and didn’t always make the best choices. However, she has a family, children, and grandchildren who love her deeply and will feel the void for their lifetime.

“We need to know what happened to her. Somebody out there knows what happened to my sister the night she disappeared and if you can please find it in yourself to contact the authorities and tell them so we can get answers her family would really appreciate it,” Reade said."

February 10, 2022

Reade was last seen at the Fav Trip gas station at 10507 E. 23rd St. in Independence, Mo., about 8:40 p.m. on February 9, 2021. Detectives are now releasing that she was last known to be a passenger in a dark-colored Volkswagen Passat.

Yes, wasn't he charged with 3 different counts upon the one lady? Those are "crimes plural", IMO.
I understand, but would evidence of those crimes with a surviving victim require tearing up concrete and earth outside of the home? I'm speculating, but I don't think so. MOO

Snipped and bolded by me.
Is this really normal in that area?!
I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and have never, ever heard of people asking the delivery person to come in. And if I was the delivery person, I would NEVER go into someone’s house. Tip or not, I’m outta there!!

It’s interesting to me that TH would invite the delivery guy INSIDE, but wouldn’t be cordial or acknowledge people who knock on the door or stop in the yard to say hello. Just seems like inviting someone into his home goes against his norm. Gives me super creepy weird vibes.

If the local pizza delivery person says it's "not unusual", then I believe him since I don't deliver pizza nor live there. lol Just quoting what he said. :)

And I'm with you.... there is NO reason to enter someone's house for a tip. They KNOW they ordered, that it was coming, so it should be no surprise to them when it arrives! I always have tip money right by the front door. It's kinda like a handshake. They hand over the delivery and you hand over the tip, pretty much all at the same time. lol

As for inviting him inside and then not being cordial... that's pretty much why the delivery guy found him odd (as do I).

It's very common on TV/ movies. Some Instacart drivers are invited in to leave groceries on the counter. Pizza delivery will leave pizza on the kitchen counter if asked as well. I don't like strangers in my house but maybe Tim did?

Is there a way to check how many women (and men, teenagers etc) are missing in this specific area???

Odd is an understatement from any of us at this point! IMO o_O

Yes, MOO, YMMV, SPECULATION, ETC. But, yes, I believe he is. ETA: from the very beginning.
Yes I believe he is. And still would be, had that woman not been incredibly brave and took her opportunity to run.

I'm still shaking my head over here about crawling under the garage door.

If I had witnessed that, my hinky meter would have been exploding.
