When I was training for AAA they made us listen to this tape to stress that we should always take the calls seriously. I cried and cried, that woman should be so ashamed of herself.

DETROIT -- A jury has found a 911 operator guilty of neglect after authorities said she didn't take seriously a boy's calls to report his mother's collapse.

The jury of five women and one man began deliberating at 9:40 a.m. Friday and reached their verdict around 12:30 p.m.

Sharon Nichols was found guilty of willful neglect of duty. That's a misdemeanor. She faces up to one-year in jail.

According to the AP, the first operator (Sharon Nichols) was found guilty.

The Judge dismissed the case against the second operator, Terri Sutton. The Judge said she was rude to the little boy, but didn't ignore protocol (she did send police, and they responded within 5 minutes).

Nichols will be sentenced to March 11th. She faces up to one year in jail.

I read somewhere that the family is also suing the city for up to $1 million? Is that true? Has anything come of that lawsuit?

This morning Fox is playing another 911 tape from Detroit in which a woman has been shot in the friggin' head and is calling for help and the 911 operator keeps asking her if she is a mental patient, is she crazy, etc....the woman lived but is permanently disabled....what is wrong with 911 in Detroit??????? :snooty:

It's not only Detroit! I live in Nashville and I had to call the police today and I was put on hold for 10 minutes until someone answered. By then it was to late to help matters.
Nashville is not a big city like Detroit, we shouldn't have these problems here but sadly we do.

I'm glad they found her guilty and in such a short period of time, but it's too bad she's only getting a year. Her lack of action resulted in a woman dying!:behindbar

Glad she was found guilty.
That poor little boy....he did the right thing by calling 911 but an idiot 911 dispatcher caused his momma's death. :(

I can't believe this charge is a misdemeanor. I think this is a horrible woman who should be in prison for a long time.

I agree and the other women should be fired. There is no excuse for her to be rude to anyone. When people call 911 it is an emergency and they usually aren't thinking straight. Sounds to me like she needs to be put out of pasture.
