"Mommy was in the trunk" - what the boys said and when

Or an actual trunk like a moving trunk?

Maybe. I'm not sure the boys would refer to it as a trunk though - rather a box. So hard to know. But maybe he did have a trunk (box) in the back of the van that he had her in.

I don't have a link but I recall (maybe from Kiirsi's blog) that when Josh and Susan and the boys went camping that they slept in the back of the van. The boys were so little that they just thought Mommy was sleeping in the trunk. moo

I think it's the trunk/back end of the vehicle/car.

People say trunk for the back of a van .. people call a van a car.

I think mommy was "sleepy" and laying down in the trunk.

Then mommy and daddy got out of the car. If they were strapped in car seats, they may not have seen whether she walked or was carried.

"Where's mommy?"

"She in the mine looking for crystals .. lets pretend we're camping!"

imo imo imo

The part about "mom and dad getting out of the car and mom disappeared" could have been info fed to the kids by Josh. As someone else said, they were probably in car seats, it was dark, etc. They may not have seen if she walked or not. And yeah, if she was in the trunk she was "sleeping" (alive but drugged, IMO, or they likely would have found something of value when they searched the van).

I mentioned it possibly being a trunk (for storage) on the other thread. We used to have a wooden one that we used as a coffee table although it was originally a tool storage trunk. The reason I thought of this is because of the charred wood chips with evidence of human decomp found at a search last year.

If he stored her in a trunk for transport then that might explain why nothing was found when LE searched the van.

I can't get past those darn wood chips since we know now that JP prefers FIRE as a way to kill people!

Just a theory, MOO, IMO JMO and all that jazz!

Attorney Steve Downing told the Associated Press that Braden and Charles Powell, who were 2 and 4 at the time of Susan Powell's disappearance, were beginning to tell their grandparents details about the night that their father took them on a late-night camping trip during a blizzard, including the fact that their mother disappeared after leaving in the car with their father.

"They were beginning to verbalize more," Downing said. "The oldest boy talked about that they went camping and that mommy was in the trunk. Mom and dad got out of the car and mom disappeared."
*************************************

If the van didn't have a trunk, did the child mean the back part of the van - or could another car be involved?

Where is that car/van now? Did they test all of his vehicles and the rental?
I feel like LE dropped the ball day one. Was that stain on the living room floor ever tested? How could Josh pull off a perfect crime w/o ****ing up? He didn't seem all that bright.
I really hope someone rechecks those vehicles and stain again.

This entity that was dressed in human skin but lacking a human soul was pure evil to the core. Hope he is dancing to a different tune down there in hell, where flames are underfoot and overhead, with nowhere to hide. I hope the insanely unhuman torturous screaming never stops. I hope that the evil entities don't die a second death in hell, they just exist for all eternity as flaming shapeless blobs.
IMHO

If Susan was drugged and put in a trunk (box)
(wonder if a hope chest is missing)....
then cadaver dogs would not hit on an alive person.
No evidence would be in van......it would be in the box.
If Susan was drugged she would look asleep.
Boys probably fell asleep in the van on the way to camp.
When they stopped maybe the oldest son half asleep was told by
Josh that mommy and him would be right back.
Then only dad came back. and son was told mom was looking for
crystals in the mine.
Josh then gets a rental and goes back to his crime scene alone (or with SP)
to make sure he covered all his evidence.
Susan is in a mine and he burns the box.
IIRC human remains were found on some burnt wood, but no body was found.........
but I have no link, it was a while ago.

If Josh had hit her in the head, hard enough to give her a concussion but not hard enough to break the skin then the wet spot on the carpet could have been vomit. It was late at night so perhaps the boys were not fully awake. If they asked where Mommy was, he may have told them that she was in the back (or trunk) of the vehicle sleeping too. They obviously realized at some point that she was gone otherwise why say that she was looking for crystals in the mine. I just wish LE had been a bit more dilligent in the early days of the case. His father may know where he went in the rental car, but I doubt he will ever tell. He is too much of a narcissist to ever admit that his perfect son did anything to Susan. I just wish he would grow a conscience and tell what he does know because I think he knows a lot about what happened that night.

Yeah, we never heard if they were able to find DNA on that burnt wood, did we? I was thinking that if she were dead or knocked out in the trunk, he looks like a skinny weak guy so I can't see him carrying her. I'm thinking she was put on a sled (didn't they go sledding that night?) and he dragged her body off to a mine shaft. Later, he went back possibly to burn the wood of the sled (which he had hidden elsewhere).

The cops really did miss the mark on this case from the get go. Murderers OFTEN go back to where they buried or dumped their dead victims. Even Scott Peterson was tailed and went to that area where he took the boat out to dump Laci's body. Where else would Scott have gone in that rental car with so many hundreds of unexplained miles on it? He would have led them right to it and this all wouldn't have been going on for 2 years and Josh would be in jail and the boys would be ok and alive now.

I'd like to also find out what the little one meant when he pointed to a mag. photo of a woman in a bathing suite and pointed to the middle of the chest and said, "Mommy owie". I suppose there would have been a lot more blood if she had been stabbed, huh?

Yeah cause the theory that she was alive in the car doesn't take into account the wet floor in the home and the fan blowing on it, right?

It could still work. I think the fan and the stain may have been because she was vomiting after eating her poisonous meal, prepared by Josh. He had tio clean that up or it could prove what he did.

I forgot about that. Hmmm.

So Ed Troyer mentioned in that press release there were other emails in addition to the one that said "I'm sorry. Goodbye." that said something along the lines of 'I can't live without my boys'.

What a sick freak!

He should have died without them then, huh?

Hey guys. I came in here to see what was being said about the boys' comments regarding the trunk, trip, etc. I'm having to wade through a LOT of off topic posts.

Let's stay on topic and keep the other posts in this thread ----->[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162034"]Josh Powell's House in WA blows up - Thread #2 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame]

If we keep having the same conversation in two threads, the mods will have to close one of them.

Maybe he was pointing to her stomach when he saw her vomiting and that's what he meant. Those poor babies... had to endure a life with a pedophile Grandpa, a crazy Father and a missing Mom and now they are gone it's just not fair. What a selfish B****** to take the lives of his precious children for his own selfish needs. Those boys could have grown up and had a wonderful life with Susan's parents and now they are dead! I hope this reflects on Steve Powells sentencing and they give him LWOP

I hope more information will be revealed from the LE/family now that this tragic event occured.

The video stated alot of people are calling for full disclosure of what LE in Utah has/had in her case to not only shed more light on what happened, but how it may help in the future.

I still don't feel JP took the rental back to where he placed Susan, he was disturbed, but not bumbling. Nor would daddy neglect to tell him that, imo. Several hundred miles on the car (not a thousand) to drive around get new cell (2) phones. a new mattress, etc that LE took and just driving...maybe even to see if LE was following him. It's still hard to imagine they didn't have a tale on him or some kind of tracking device on the rental...or that Jen didn't ask him where he had been.
imo

eta: A few of us discussed the sled.....and would like to know if it was ever located at the house....or in the vehicle upon JP's return that evening.

I don't think she died in the house or the car. Looks like he planned Susan's death also. I hope he didn't burn her in the fire and then make smores over it. This guy was depraved.
