"Mommy was in the trunk" - what the boys said and when

I don't think the fact that one of the boys pointed to the chest area on a model when saying "Mommie owie" is necessarily relevant to where an injury (if there was an injury) occurred. He could have been just pointing at the model in general, and it just happened that he chose the general area of her chest. As for why that particular model...who knows? Maybe the model's hair colour or the scenery in the picture made his Mother pop into his head.

I just think that if she had died a bloody death in that house, there would have been more obvious blood evidence. My partner's friend once cut his foot (stepped back onto a glass he'd just put on the floor) and bled all over our living room carpet - there was obviously nowhere near as much blood as there would be from a stab wound or gunshot to the chest, but if you had walked into the room just after he went to hospital, you would have thought that something very serious had happened in there. I couldn't get all the blood out, either - there was still light staining, and after we took up the carpets and underlay, where I had cleaned the floor underneath was clearly stained with watered down blood.

I agree with the posters who think that the stain was vomit, or possibly urine if he strangled her.

If I'm honest, I'd also be surprised if she actually is found in a mine shaft. The way he killed himself and his children tells me this is a very cold, calculating person. I doubt very much he'd tell his kids something that could lead directly to the discovery of her body. JMO, though.

That's what I'd like to know, too!! Was there another car? Didn't the police confiscate the van and go through it looking for evidence? Cadaver dogs can hit on a body having been somewhere -- didn't they bring cadaver dogs to the van? And if they took the van and there was another car, why did Josh have to rent a car? Or did it do that thinking the poice wouldn't know -- which the donkeys didn't because they didn't tail his sorry butt the next day and had to rely on the car rental place to realize he had rented a car there.

I've thought about this an awful lot over the last year or two. I think the cadaver dogs did not hit on the vehicle because cadaver dogs detect the DEAD. I do not believe that Susan was dead yet when she was placed in the vehicle. I believe that she was severly incapacitated. I also believe that she was burned rather than buried (until later).

I think he just got thru mimicking his wife's murder with his two precious boys.

I agree with you on the burning part. I am going to look up the psychological profile of a killer who uses fire to kill. Curious to know what it says.

This happened the summer after Susan disappeared, according to the link:

"The four ladies that were supervising that activity said, 'well, what's this?' 'That's us going camping.' 'Who's in the car?' And Braden said, 'that's Daddy, that's Charlie, that's me'. Then he said, 'well mommy's in the trunk.' Well if Mommy's in the trunk, why is she in the trunk?' He didn't know, he didn't say, I guess. Then, he said we stopped somewhere and mommy and daddy got out and mommy didn't come back."

The summer after Susan Powell disappeared, her father said, her young son Braden drew a picture at day care of a van with three people in it and told caregivers it showed his family going camping: "Mommy's in the trunk," the boy said.

Yes, you are correct, I also read that elsewhere, yet JVM keeps reporting that they just recently said that, she also is reporting that visitation was "in the home where child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 was found". I wish she would check her facts before opening her mouth. :please:

boys were drawing pictures and giving them to teachers ..........nancy grace

A date rape drug would incapacitate Susan, and possibly cause her to vomit, but leave her physically alive and able to walk - or be walked somewhere - without her having any volition to break away. Basically, women drugged this way walk down the street with someone without anyone else knowing is something is wrong, but have no memory of it, or any ability to break away.

I think there are ways she could have been sickened with legal substances so that any stain on the carpet would not turn up an obvious toxic substance like arsenic. I don't know the rates of breakdown but I know I've seen cases where people are poisoned with things that can't be found in the bloodstream. To my knowledge, the public has never known what was found when that carpet was tested - or if it ever was.

It could still work. I think the fan and the stain may have been because she was vomiting after eating her poisonous meal, prepared by Josh. He had tio clean that up or it could prove what he did.

Was that stain ever tested for DNA? I thought it was never tested. Can you imagine them dropping the ball?!!!

If they did test it, they have certainly never revealed what they found.

I kept yelling at the TV during JVM and NG last night too with all the mistakes. LOL

Tonight on NG, the Coxes said when Braden made the drawing was in the summer of 2010, it was then give to JP and never seen again, and the daycare workers NEVER reported it LE or anyone until talking to Mrs Cox this past October. :what: WTH? Something is wrong with this. imo

Not only that but the daycare worker GAVE IT TO JOSH.

I think he knew for a long time that he would do this because there's no way the boys wouldn't talk. Maybe he and SP just thought they'd get away with it because JP was abused as a kid and has never ratted on SP - he joined him.

Could be. Remember what Josh said in his 48 hours interview when asked why Susan didn't go camping with them? "She was tired." He kept referencing to her being "tired" and needing to take a "nap."

The kids were very little. When they said "Mommy was in the trunk and Mommy and Daddy got out of the car and then mommy disappeared" it doesn't necessarily mean Susan actually got out of the car in a normal way. They were toddlers. She could have been unconscious, dead, or severely drugged and Josh removed her from the car to kill her. What living conscious person would ride in the trunk of a car without a struggle? Unless she was drugged? He then told the boys "mommy is looking for crystals in the mines"

I also believe there has to be something to the burn area the police found out there. We know that Josh likes fire...and hatchets. So very very sad.

Yes. Someone adept with an axe or hatchet might be experienced with "cutting stuff up."

And, the same goes with the fire.

when boys drew or said mommy in the trunk......
did they ever mention if mommie had a pink blankie with her?

Maybe he set Susan on fire? Did he have extra gas cans in the car that night I wonder?

I would like to know this too. I read where he told his neighbor Peterson that he took the boys camping to test out a new generator.

Doesn't a generator require gas? Did they find any traces of gasoline in the van?

Odd that he made sure the mini-van was burned too. Was this to keep LE from searching it again?

I was under the impression that Susan was still alive when the boys were talking about her being in the trunk. I say this because Josh could have carried her body out there if she was dead and the boys could have just thought he was loading something.

So she may have been able to yell or talk if she wasn't dead yet. Also, they said daddy and mommy got out of the van. So, was she able to walk at that point.

Maybe the boys thought she was sleeping because it was so late and she could have been wrapped in a blanket because she was sleeping. JMO

If Susan was drugged and put in a trunk (box)
(wonder if a hope chest is missing)....
then cadaver dogs would not hit on an alive person.
No evidence would be in van......it would be in the box.
If Susan was drugged she would look asleep.
Boys probably fell asleep in the van on the way to camp.
When they stopped maybe the oldest son half asleep was told by
Josh that mommy and him would be right back.
Then only dad came back. and son was told mom was looking for
crystals in the mine.
Josh then gets a rental and goes back to his crime scene alone (or with SP)
to make sure he covered all his evidence.
Susan is in a mine and he burns the box.
IIRC human remains were found on some burnt wood, but no body was found.........
but I have no link, it was a while ago.

Police led to a shallow grave by cadaver dogs in the hunt for missing Utah mother Susan Powell called off the search after they found charred wood that may have been used to burn human remains.

At the spot just 30 miles from where Susan's husband Josh said he took their children on the night she disappeared that police had been digging through, they found about 100 pieces of wood which had traces of human decomposition on them.

Police said they believe it may have been the site of a crime scene once and were unable to say if the remains belonged to the missing mother-of-two
