All these decades of clean entertainment (but those early Disney writers...they had great imaginations, which you would think would be something to encourage in not just children, but everyone). But I would like to say that I don't run around thinking of beastiality, or anything of the kind.

I can't say anything about the Million Moms, but I do protest the implication that those who have thought negatively of this commercial are considered "thinking" of beastiality.

OK, now that I've had some sleep, I think I understand what you're saying better.

I don't like the commercial either, because it makes the woman look like such a simpering idiot, not because it brings to mind any images of bestiality, for me, personally. My mind just didn't go there -- until this thread, anyway. What I was saying was that if you're crying "bestiality", maybe there's a reason: like, maybe you're overly concerned with the issue (bestiality) -- for whatever reason, but probably reasons you should look into, so it is easily brought to the forefront of your mind. (Not you, HC, "you" in the general population sense).

I suppose most of us have at one time or another thought, "whoa, this commercial is in really bad taste" but mostly we shrug and move on to other stuff, only a select few get so worked up over 30 second ad clips that we organize petitions or boycott campaigns over them.

It may sometimes be a good thing that some people care enough to try to do something about Ads That Are Wrong... If everyone just shrugged and said nothing the ads could get more and more outrageous and shocking. But in the grand scheme of things a talking pig wouldn't be where I would choose to start. How about having a million moms protesting about all the ads that promote unhealthy things that our kids don't really need and that are harmful to the environment that they are going to have to live in when they grow up? Something that is a real threat anyway. I doubt that any child will grow up to have a pig fetish because they saw some insurance ads.

The "pig commercial" brouhaha reminded me of this local woman who protested Fox TV's Married, With Children in the late '80s. Some here might recall this, too, but the censorship issue was huge in these parts due to the woman living in Bloomfield Hills, MI and her connection to the Romneys.

On January 15, 1989, Terry Rakolta watched this episode and was offended by the content of the episode. As a result, she then began a letter writing campaign against the show, by writing to the advertisers and requesting they boycott the show.
The Boycott would ultimately have the opposite effect then intended, when curiosity what the boycott and the show itself was all about lead a ratings boost into the series, potentially being the cause of it lasting for several more years.

The talking pig boycott also had the paradoxical effect on a microscopic scale - on me. I had not seen the ad before but I have now watched it several times, along with other talking pig ads, and Geico has had the chance to spread its message of bestiality to me that it otherwise might have missed.
