I remember reading this, too. If they were going for Medicaid, there's a definite possibility they were going for foodstamps. Pretty sure a family of 5 making "$15,000" would qualify. Are both of these state programs, or federal programs, administered by the state? Either way, I would think the charges could be pretty severe, if proven.

Snap is a federal program that is administered my the state. Medicaid is federally funded ( based on disability) or state funded. State funded Medicaid is based on income. In kentucky you can apply for both snap and Medicaid in the same office. For federally funded Medicaid you apply at the social security office.

In Kentucky if you report no income a form is required to be signed by a non relative providing verification of that. If you report wages your employer can sign a different form and provide wage information or the client can provide check stubs. The new charges lead me to believe that a form may have been forged so that they could obtain benefits. I am not familiar with SC policy so I may be incorrect so this is opinion only

Eta I don't know how to copy/paste on my phone to insert the part of the charge leading me to this conclusion

Would prosecuters be able to bring up the fraud charge during the kidnapping/murder trial if the haven't been convicted of it? Just thinking it would be good to show the jury the overall lack of character these 2 have.

I don't know, but I don't think so. There are of lot of rules in place in fears of influencing the jury. Even if the fraud trial happens before the murder trial, it might still not be able to brought up because it has nothing to do with Heather's murder. It could be a decision left up to the judge.

The possibility of an acquittal is something that every prosecutor has to consider. A no-body murder case is never a slam dunk. After Casey was acquitted, they looked for every other possible charge to get her back in jail. OJ is serving time for another crime after his acquittal. It is a definitely a relief knowing that other charges are waiting in the wings if they are acquitted.

BBM..yes relief. I agree. The way you worded your comment...

This comment sounded as if you were implying that LE is just piling on charges simply for the fun of it but I can see now that I misunderstood your comment. My apologies.

I don't think the prosecution could bring it up unless the defense brings up character or being a model citizen. If the defense does that then the prosecution could introduce this I believe.

I know!!! Poor Heather didn't get the chance to have enough life experiences to understand. So young, so naive and so vulnerable to be swimming with these sharks. Tammy is one twisted sister and I shudder to think of Heather confronted by her and her cheating husband. This should have never happened. Breaks my heart to think of little Heather at that dark, spooky landing - so trusting. There's no punishment good enough for the Moorers. I don't know how the Elvis family keeps it together. I prob would be in a looney bin by now.

Tried starting a new thread on this (maybe added to the other IE charges/etc thread?):

http://www.wsoctv.com/news/ap/south-carolina/horry-couple-in-murder-case-charged-with-fraud/ngDTS/

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — An Horry County couple charged with murder in a case involving a missing woman have now been charged with Medical fraud.
Records show that 42-year-old Tammy Moorer and 38-year-old Sidney Moorer are each charged with one count of making a false statement on an application for Medicaid assistance.
They are accused of failing to disclose to Medicaid their true financial status between 2007 and 2013. Investigators say the couple failed to disclose income from two businesses, and received more than $10,000 in inappropriate benefits.

"“There’s no way that my child done this and I’m sick and tired of every time I see the news or read the paper it says my kids are charged with murder,” she said. “There’s no way the child could do anything like that.”

I wonder if she thinks the same thing about all these OTHER charges?

Maybe she thinks TM couldn't do 'anything like that' meaning murder - but does she think the same about the IE charges? Kidnapping? The fraud charges?

:banghead: :drama: :denial:

If that is the case in SC as well,I have no idea, wouldn't the person who singed the verification for the M's be in trouble too?

Yes, but I have to wonder if one of the "dynamic duo" committed forgery.

Yes, the forms for KY actually have a statement of warning that if the person signing the form is aiding the person to obtain fraudulant benefits they can also be held responsible and face penalties (imprisonment, fines, etc).

I wonder if SM didn't sign them himself as another person.

We knew it before, but they really must be out of their minds to deliberately lie on a Federal document. It just further highlights the "we're too slick to be caught" attitude these two criminals have. Amateurs....

I was just having my morning coffee and remembered back to Tammy's first bond hearing when her lawyer said she had a squeaky clean record, not even a parking ticket. Guess he will have to change his spiel now....

The Moorers sure now how to convict themselves.

"For starters I use caps and bolds to grab attention, not because I'm angry or upset! And secondly both my husband and I own our own companies and make a #h%t(l@ad of money! I live in a HUGE 2 storied cutom brick house (that I designed) with a playground (just for my 3 kids) that will put the best private school out there to shame and the outdoor kitchen.....freaking amazing and it's bigger than the average persons HOUSE! So, yes, I guess we're "rich" in the eyes of America, not that it matters because money is just money and it can not buy one happiness or make them a better person." ~ TM

Both Moorers have been charged with obtaining signature or property under false pretenses and false statement for application for Medicaid assistance, according to the arrest warrants.

They are accused of concealing or failing to disclose to Medicaid the true household and financial status between January 2007 and March 2013, which caused the Moorers to receive Medicaid benefits they were not entitled to receive. "The value of these benefits were over $10,000," according to investigators.

Good Night TM...don't let those bed bugs bite. :jail::floorlaugh:

:floorlaugh: Thread winnah! :floorlaugh:

I think this is a case of 'pile it on', 'get'em for everything you got', etc, etc, etc. Make a believer out of them. Let them know 'we ain't playing'.
I love it. Just like the Cummings/Croslin gang. If you can't get them for what you want, get them for what you got. Wonder what the penality is for federal fraud? Wonder what grandma thinks about all these charges being in the news? Time for more interviews? or maybe time to slink up and keep your mouth shut.

I love the timing of these latest charges...just days after the Caison interview. It's like someone, somewhere, read that article and said, "oh yeah? Watch this!"

LOL, I think you are right. The Caisons knew the State could not respond to the article due to the gag order, so this is their response:)
