The royal palace said in a statement carried by state media the boy had died before rescuers could save him. Moroccan King Mohammed VI expressed his condolences to the boy’s parents.

- Five-year-old Rayan Awram, who fell more than 30 metres through a well's opening in Morocco on Tuesday night, has been freed after four days but died shortly after the rescue.

- Video evidence from the scene shows emergency workers and volunteers carrying the boy to an ambulance, where he later died from his injuries, Morocco's king said in a statement

Other sources are saying he had already passed away before he was rescued. They hadn't seen signs of life in some time. And the announcement of his death was quite quick after his rescue - I think the state had already prepared a public announcement.

This is the 4th child in a well story I have followed. Only one out of the four had a happy ending.

I thought what you guys were reporting from the live feeds sounded like a successful rescue. Poor little Rayan and his poor parents and family. The little guy must have fought so hard to try and fight through whatever injuries he got from the fall

He knew they were coming for him and that his mum and dad were there waiting for him...I hope that gave him comfort.
