I wonder if it was suicide by cop.

This article has a better description of what took place. Apparently cops were trying to stop her from leaving because of concern for the child. She then shot and killed one of the cops, and died from return fire from the second cop.
Sure sounds like some sort of mental breakdown (paranoia? being followed, etc).
What a brutal situation. It definitely sounds like a mental breakdown and unfortunately she had access to a weapon.
I don’t imagine anything could have been done differently by LE - who would think that would happen?

Thanks for this. The guy who the news is interviewing has seen the body cam video and he said she clearly was having mental health issues. So sad.

This is just absolutely heartbreaking from every single perspective. I hope that little girl is provided a lot of access to care, and therapy, and surrounded by love.

I am wondering if she had a history of mental health issues or was this new? She was in her forties, which is kind of late for an onset of mental disease.

It’s likely she was having a mental health crisis, however I’m not going to state this as a fact. For all I know, it’s possible she really was being followed or stalked by someone intending her harm.

Women have been victims of this very thing.

All the same, this is just so tragic.

So if she was being followed and not having mental health crisis, how do you explain her killing two police officers? Seems pretty clear to me she was paranoid and possibly psychotic.

Umm because she was scared and angry at not being believed? By not wanting her young daughter taken by strangers? Trying to get daughter away.

Like I said, it’s likely she was having a mental health crisis, but it’s not an established fact.

Killing police officers because she was scared and angry and not being believed is not a normal response.

This article is heartbreaking, but it has all the info

<Snipped & BBM>
Within seconds the motel guest said several shots rang out, two of the shots she said were simultaneous. Another guest told DailyMail.com that he heard yelling and screaming and a women's voice saying, 'get off me, get off me' before he heard several gunshots.

After hearing the gunshots, the guest came back outside to complete silence.

'It was eerily quiet,' she told DailyMail.com. She then saw a little girl walking around the SUV. She yelled out to the young girl to 'come over here.'

But the girl – who was dressed in a red flannel nightgown – had blood splattered on her face, arms and legs and was hesitant at first.

Anderson's daughter asked the guest: 'Are you going to hurt me? Momma told me people are trying to kill us.'

After reassuring her that she wasn't going to harm her the girl walked toward the guest.

[…]

One friend told DailyMail.com she was going through a personal crisis that all came to a head on Tuesday, the day before she died.

'There was a call made Tuesday to 911 to go check on her because she had a gun and was delusional and paranoid,' the friend said.

The friend said Anderson's family were advised to call 911 to help her. the friend said.

Of course it’s not, nor did I remotely say it was.

Of course I cannot recall ANY murder that is “normal” Ymmv

Sounds to me like she most likely had a mental health issue for a long time. Like I mentioned before, forties would be pretty late for an onset of a mental health issue.

“Unfortunately she was a very troubled person although we loved her very much,” Sylvia Brogdon said. “She was really sick, more than we even realized, and we couldn’t help her. It was a mental illness issue. But she was a good mother and a good veterinarian. She loved her job and if you could see her children you can see she was a good mother. It’s so terrible when someone is a good person but they do something like this and then all the good is erased and people only see the bad.”

I wouldn’t say that’s the most terrible part of it IMO…

I am not sure who is going to provide it. Her father is in prison for a sex offense (against a 10 year old) and her mother is now dead. The other two children are from a different father, which is why they weren't with her at the time of this horrible incident. But I am not sure where is the youngest child is going to end up.
