CLARKE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - A woman is missing in Clarke County. Carrie Bell Vaughn, 76, is a Black female who lives in Jasper County, but her vehicle and belongings were found Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 11 and County Road 290, just south of Pachuta.

Clarke County sheriff’s deputies have been searching the vehicle, her home and the wooded area where the vehicle was found.

Clarke County Emergency Management Agency is also assisting with the search efforts.

Vaughn’s car and belongings were found at the intersection of Highway 11 and County Road 290 south of Pachuta Wednesday. She was last seen walking about 3:30 a.m. in that area. Vaughn’s family said she has a medical condition that may impair her judgment.

According to David Sharp in this audio interview the people in the house across the road from where her car was found talked to her. Apparently at 3:30am they heard her hollering/screaming/cussing that someone ran her off the road. They talked to her for a while then went back to bed thinking someone was coming to get her. When they woke later in the morning her car & belonging were still there but she wasn't around. This doesn't sound good. I hope they're searching all sheds, barns, and abandoned bldgs around where her vehicle was located.

...they went back to bed?!? o_O I wonder why they didn't call LE right then and there? I dunno about this one. MOO

Oh gosh, this is an incredibly rural area for her to be lost in. I am worried for her. :(

With low temps around 30 degrees and highs upper 40's I am really concerned about this lady. I have not found any new updates. :(

@YaYa_521 I agree. We have an elder woman, 3:30 am/cold/accident and possible injury. SMH. I wonder where she was going at 3:30am ( not sure if it matters though). Praying they will locate her.

Still missing.

It’s unclear if the 75-year-old began walking toward her home, which is about a mile and a half away from where she was last seen on County Road 290.

There’s also train tracks that run parallel to Highway 11. Kemp says Vaughn could have wandered down the wood line or even been picked up.

It's the middle of the night and there's an elderly woman who's distraught about (allegedly) being run off the road, and your response is to just leave her and hope for the best. Good lord. I'm going to reserve judgement but I find that story more than a little...concerning.

@realanastasia So do I.That woman would have been inside my home having coffee after I also called 911. IMO

So I'm trying to reserve judgement and put myself in their shoes a bit here since I have been to this area. It is entirely possible that they may have *tried* to help her more but she may have insisted on leaving, in which case you can't make someone stay against their will. Another thing to think about is that a couple of years or so ago there were a couple of rural home invasions in this county where a woman came to the door of the homes faking having car trouble and then a man forced his way in with a gun. One woman was brutally attacked. It is not the norm in this area at all and I imagine that people are a bit on guard, especially at that hour. I am pretty sure the couple was never caught.

Just trying to throw out some ideas. We really don't have the whole story here and it sounds like she may have been very distraught about being run off the road. Who knows, maybe she wasn't comfortable going inside a stranger's home, either. I just hope she is found okay. Searches were ongoing yesterday.

So sad. I knew it had been too long if she was out in the cold weather but I was still hoping that she had found shelter some place. My heart goes out to her family.

Question: Is Scotty Ray's Weather considered MSM? Clarification will help me in the future to know because he does post a lot of news in my state quicker than some outlets and I do check him for updates for some news.

Body of missing elderly woman found | Clarke County Tribune

Search teams were called to search the wooded area near where her car was found abandoned. One search member found her body in the Shubuta Creek off of CR 290, according to Sheriff Todd Kemp.

WTOK in Meridian reports Vaughn’s body was found less than a mile from where her car was found.

My feeling is that there will be more to come. JMO

As far as I know it is not, but if you click Report on your post asking the question, you can explain in the “Reason for reporting” box that you’d like a mod to tell you for sure whether that site is MSM.

I agree with all you've posted. I just don't understand why the neighbors didn't call LE. The circumstances of an upset, elderly woman whose vehicle was obviously involved in some sort of accident on a rural road at that time of the morning would be cause for concern, imo. I would have been even more afraid for her safety (and mine) considering the previous incidents you mentioned. But to each his own, I suppose. :)

I hope the autopsy provides the answers her loved ones need to properly mourn.

Yeah, I agree. It's a head scratcher for sure. I wonder what the investigation will turn up?

I hope they have cell phone data to use. I am wondering what gave the impression that she had called someone to pick her up, who that might have been and if they ever came.
