Closing arguments tomorrow?

That means defense will either have no witnesses or just a few.

  • #282
Defense really doesn't have much to work with in this case IMO

  • #283
Cross of today's witnesses on stand was rather on the weak side imo

Anyone else think so, too?

It would be tough, if not extremely unlikely, to be successful at poking holes in digital cellular technology. Can't say QT's phone and JC's phone weren't in close proximity that night. It's better than an eye witness.

I believe if there were an accomplice Eric/Derrick, QT would have already given him up so as not to go down alone. I still believe she wasn't saying Eric, but either Quentin or Tellis wasn't coming out clearly with her mouth injuries. I know when you think you've heard something it's hard to then get that off your brain.

This witness was outstanding putting the information in as easy terms as you could so that average people could understand.

This redirect was powerful. We will hear that "erased her from his life" at closing.

My theory is he raped her, after forcing her to disrobe. At some point when she was redressing she said she would report it and he rendered her unconscious, thinking she was dead he went home and got the gas to come back and destroy the evidence, set the car on fire and high tailed it out there thinking it would take a few days to identify the body burned up in the car. He never dreamed she would escape the car and be alive when fire department got there. I think you can see he was shocked in the store that they already knew who it was. And he hurried home to lay low and start deleting his phone thinking that would destroy the evidence of him and her meeting up that night.

I agree, but I think it will be a hung jury.

IDK it seems the jurors have been determined to push through the testimony. Although we don't know them, I get the feeling they'll be determined to reach a verdict.

Thanks Epiphany and DeDee!!!

Who is the witness on stand that you're referring to please?

The only witness today has been Paul who is the Intelligence Analysis Expert. He must have the highest IQ of anyone I've ever seen testify at a trial. He is from Arkansas. Years of detailed work experience and training. His impressive memory is like that of a computer. Never referred to his notes and never asked for them.

If FBI Agent Blunt is a 5. Paul, the IAE, is a 50+ on a 10 point scale. Yes, off the charts, imho.

I don't think he raped her. At least not sexual intercourse. There would have been SOME evidence of that, I would think. Most rapists don't take time to put on condoms, do they? Especially if they are raping in a small car? If a sexual assault occurred, I think it was oral sex.

All while being the parent to four teenagers. Now, that's impressive!

Paul was a great witness and what a way to end the state's case.

I enjoy the trial stage more than any other as I'm interested in seeing the evidence the state actually has, rather than the journey of trying to guess what they might have and where it might lead in the months and sometimes years before a case gets litigated.

Paul is still explaining how he ruled out Eric's and Derrick's.

Relied upon chart of list of Eric's and Derrick's was used to discover connections to JC. Zeroed in on any who may have a connection. Looked at people who lived with an Eric and Derrick. They did not knock on 300 doors asking if an Eric lived there.

Went 2 or 3 degrees of separation away from JC.

Final question by Defense, she promises. Any searching for IDing info.

Paul is a collector and analyzer of data. Not an investigator.

60% - 70% is a speculation though of how fruitless it would be.

She lied misled. Asking another question. And another ?

Eric W. & Eric N. who were listed as a FB friend of JC.

Paul looks for data collected from cellphone data to observe patterns. It can rule a person out. Eric W. was quickly ruled out.

Defense continues: Is cellphone data 100% certain?

Paul: Depends how many towers, how close to towers, et al. It can be very precise. It can also be imprecise.

Asked about dropped calls. [She's torturing me slowly but surely.] Mind of a computer responded according to previous testimony.

JC had LG phone
QT had ZTE phone
Type of phone affects the tower reception.

I agree with everyone that there seems to be an actor missing from the stage here. It almost seems like QT is protecting someone else, maybe someone a bit sharper than him who's letting him take the entire blame. Perhaps QT is afraid of him, afraid that his family will suffer if he implicates someone else?

Or maybe QT does act alone and is just one of those killers who appear entirely nondescript?, - "the banality of evil". I'm also puzzled by why Jessica hung around with him, although according to Kesha and from her texts, I think she definitely wasn't interested in him sexually (I'm a bit mystified why any woman would be tbh). He wouldn't make my top ten of "hot felons". I think it must have been something to do with drugs that meant she was trying to keep him sweet.

I doubt that Jessica would have slept with him willingly, and I think it's likely that he became angry over this and some sort of sexual assault was the catalyst for the attack on her, either from hatred or to destroy evidence. Gave me a bit of a chill when on the tapes QT said that Jessica gave being "on her period" as a reason for not sleeping with him. I have heard other women say that they have tried saying that to a rapist prior to being attacked in the hope that it might dissuade him, also that they try saying they have an STD or that they are pregnant.

I still think robbery was a significant motive here as well, no coincidence surely that IF he is the killer, that almost the first thing he does is go and buy a green dot card (I'm assuming he paid cash?). As the investigators said in the tapes, QT was just out of prison, where was he getting money from?

On the other hand as long as a lot of testimony points to an unknown "Eric" perhaps defense considers that enough reasonable doubt for acquittal? In other words the less said the better maybe. Seems risky though.

I don't think it can be stated enough at how compromised poor Jessica was when she managed to zombie walk out of the treeline.

I got a tiny burn from a drop (one drop) of boiling soup on my thumb and I was in so much pain, even hours later, even after taking some ibuprofen and running my thumb under cold water and using a cold ice pack off and on. I'm sure you've all had a similar experience and couldn't believe how bad the pain was.

That she even managed to get upright and get herself to the firefighters at all was miraculous. And this young lady had third degree burns covering her, had inhaled noxious chemical fumes, had severe thermal burns in her mouth, her throat. That she could form any thoughts at all is amazing--I have no doubt she was mispronouncing everything she attempted to say.

Fortunately we don't have to rely on the garbled utterances of a charred, tortured, dying young woman. She can rest. We have so much information that proves who was with JC throughout that day, who was in contact with JC throughout that day, and who was caught in lie after lie after lie, right on video, about that day.

Witness:

To be frank, we were never sure the sex he described earlier had ever occurred

We think it's possible t scenario he described occurred that evening (position of seat, clothing she had on, where they went)

Did anyone claim they were having sex? No, we have no other evidence to support that

Witness says he thought it was possible she was saying, Tellis

Witness mentions responders had also said JC said Yombers, Tabers (for her last name), and Courtney, Katina, Katrina (for her first name)

BBM... If responders did indeed think she said Katina Yombers or Courtney Tabers (or whatever), I cannot believe that enunciation momentarily improved significantly enough to say Eric. I just cannot see it.

JMHO

At the very end, they said that several pages of the PowerPoint ended up being taken out in the end because they felt they were extraneous and the jurors had enough to see. From what I understand, basically the phone data showed that QT did leave his home, for a drive, during "nap time" that Saturday. He borrowed maybe his mom's car? I'd really like to know where he went and what he did. Is there a possibility he picked someone up??
