Earlier this month, a new bond hearing was set for Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr. was scheduled for this Friday; however, according to court officials, that hearing will now be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 27 in Oxford.

Herrington was arraigned on the new charge. He pleaded not guilty and did not have an attorney representing him at the time. Attorney Kevin Horan represented Lee during his trial but is no longer Lee’s attorney for unknown reasons.

I wonder if this charge is tossed, would he be free to be on bond as he was previously until trial happens again?

I think that since the underlying crime here is one that has no statue of limitations (Murder), that the courts will find an exception to the rule.

Very interested to see how this plays out. He was already out on bond with the murder charge. The tampering charge allowed them to bring him in. It’s all technicalities at this point.

I hope in the end it will finally lead to justice for the family.

Wish they could have found him sooner but am glad that they did.
Hopefully with the evidence potentially gained from having his remains, we won't have to worry about this being an issue and he will get max penalty.

According to court records filed on Monday, May 19, Herrington cited extensive news coverage and public scrutiny via social media posts as reasons for his motion for a venue change.

Herrington argued that he would not be able to receive a fair trial in Lafayette County due to "the amount of pretrial publicity and the local knowledge of the persons and events involved."

"The information that has been publicized online and in newspapers has been severely prejudicial to the Defendant to the extent that the potential jury pool in Lafayette County has been irreversibly tainted," the filing reads.

According to court records, Herrington's new trial date has been set for Oct. 13, 2025, in Lafayette County. The court designated Dec. 1, 2025, as a back-up trial date in the event a conflict arises.
