Hattiesburg resident Tamika Mills told The Clarion-Ledger that bystanders came upon the officers on the ground, one rolling about and the other nearby who asked "... 'Am I dying? I know I'm dying. Just hand me my walkie-talkie.'" Mills told the paper, that the moment was "shocking and heartbreaking."

Tate, 25, was a recent graduate from the police academy. He posted on his Facebook page that he graduated June 11.
I graduated the Police Academy today. I am now a Police Officer. I would like to thank God, the Police Academy, the Police Department, my family, friends, and love ones.
