i saved the badge image for last for a reason.....i have not shared much personally here on websleuths.....i would like to do so now....

why could i not sleep? why was i so affected by this thread? there's a reason.......if you'll indulge me......after her (me and my crazy siblings) family was raised and gone, my mother achieved her life long dream of working with our local police department as a police dispatcher/911 operator and loved every second of it.......to make a long story short, i lost my mother several years ago to a terminal illness, no it wasn't cancer but heart disease.....she had a sudden heart attack that we had hoped she would recover from quite quickly and instead we spent the next year and a half watching her die while awaiting a heart transplant and undergoing 18 surgeries and only spending about a total of 6 weeks not in the hospital.....we were called in numerous times thinking this was it......it was hell......she was a healthy woman we thought, it was the shock of our life and she was young....

that police department that she loved so dearly stood by her every step of the way....those men and women gave up their leave to donate leave after her leave ran out, gave up their insurance coverage days after her insurance days ran out, held rallys to raise money after that, not a day went by that we weren't called by someone on the force, i slept on floors of CCU units along side officers many a night awaiting a visiting time, and when she finally died a mere shell of the person she was after the fight of her life......they INSISTED that she be buried in full uniform even though their policy did not at that time allow for dispatchers to be buried in uniform.....the police chief took it to the mayor to have it changed and it was voted on and changed....this was no small town either.........and she was, she was buried in full uniform and she looked so so regal......

on the day she was laid to rest the entire force was there with their shields on with black tape and black bands on their arms and full police escort.....and why? because of her service and dedication and the times she had saved their lives i was told.....

i saw family that day....not of blood....but united in trust

so on this mother's day......as i cry and miss her dearly, i post this in her honor and in honor of officer tate and officer deen and every brave man and woman that take up the shield everyday in this country....

i thank each and every one of them from the bottom of my heart

I can't quit thinking about Officer Tate'sand Officer Deen's mothers today. God bless them. So awful.

Thank goodness they arrested the awful people who took their lives. Well done, Hattiesburg PD.

Such a sad day. C'mon folks, where's the outrage?
At this time I feel such a sense of sadness and fear. I feel sadness for these officers families, their community and all of law enforcement.
I feel fear as I have a stepson that is a police officer. I have a son that is a recent police academy graduate. He will be taking his state exam this week. All he has ever wanted to do for a career since he was about ten is to be a police officer. He saw a local report about a little girl that was kidnapped and decided he wanted to be law enforcement to bring missing children back to their moms.
The senseless killing of both officers hurts. It especial hits home since officer Moore is a new recruit. I feel like law enforcement has a target on their back even before graduating the academy.

I'm so sorry you and your son find yourselves in such a position at this time. No one should be endangered by their job. Once upon a long ago police were respected. Sadly, due to some bad apples and the devolution of our society, this is no longer the case.

I will keep your son and all police officers in my prayers - they are the only thing standing between us and total anarchy.

God bless, and Happy Mother's Day.

Has it been said if these brothers were on probation, waiting court dates, or all clear with the courts?

Thank you for sharing your mom's story Queenie.

My hats off to the PD for finding these guys so quickly. I figured they would when I read the comments of the mayor last night, especially his request for citizens to stay indoors while they searched. That said to me that they were on a mission and things might get hairy. And many thanks to you and Ryan Moore for seeing this through all night.

I'm relieved that they've made arrest and so saddened that Ofc's Tate and Deen, two men who tried to make right decisions in their life, would be killed for simply going to work. And why? What was so godawful important that these guys couldn't sit through a traffic stop? These criminals are outrageous and it's stunning to me that we, as a collective society, are not outraged by them. WE should expect more from our fellows, we should expect that they do not kill two men because they don't want to be inconvenienced or caught for some petty thing they've tried to get away with. And yet, again and again it is proven that we are not. We are ho-hum about it when a police officer is the one to die, some cretins even celebrating these actions IN PUBLIC, where anyone can read it! What does it say about us? That people would be cheerful about two police officers being shot to death at a traffic stop, and boldly express their gladness. Upside down and inside out, it really is.

Clearly a few hours sleep was not enough time for me stop being bothered by internet idiots.

YES! But it seems some want the anarchy! I'm not entirely sure that they have a remote idea about what that society might look like. I have a feeling they will not like it if it's ever achieved.
