(snip)

The last pastor to speak, Dennis Johnson, recalled Tate's chilling last words before death.

"Liquori asked, 'Am I dying'" said Johnson. "I will answer for you, Liquori. You are not, live on. You have done the best you can, and we are proud of you."

The song "Stand" was then sung, bringing the entire room to their feet in praise.

As Tate's body was escorted out of the building, the song "How Great is our God" rang throughout the room. HPD officers carried flowers and walked beside the family as the procession began.

Thousands lined Hwy 98 to pay their respects to Tate as he exited Hattiesburg to his final resting place.

Tate will be buried at a cemetery in Starkville, the town where he was born.

sending my prayers to the parents and loved ones of officer liquori tate today as you lay him to rest.......i cannot imagine your pain....

we are not meant to bury our children in our lifetime, you have made the ultimate sacrifice and i thank you and apologize for the injustice.....

officer tate had a dream of serving the public and protecting the community and you supported your child in that dream, he touched many lives in a positive manner, his love for his family and friends was evident, he learned that from you, thank you for the man you offered to your community to serve and protect......we are all the better for his brief time among us....

and to his siblings.....be very proud of your brother, i know that you are.....tell your children so that they may tell their children that he died a hero, a man trying to make a difference in this world and he did.....just look at the united front of your community right now.....he did not die in vain.....carry forth that good work and love and i wish you peace......

for taking up the shield and endeavoring to make this world a better place i salute you officer liquori tate......though your life was brief, it was so very noble and i thank you for the difference you made.....rest in peace sir, with honor......

:rose:

So sweet, Queen Bee. Hard to get through this thread without tears falling. I hope this brings the community closer together and stronger so they never have to go though this pain again.

:goldcrown: You deserve this for all your tireless hours in posting and sharing this with us. Wish I lived closer so I could be there to pay my respects but you have given me a window to see in and be part of it. Thank you.

The part in bold chills me to the bone to know he realized his body was fading. I think the pastor's answer was the best and very kind words. Hopefully Officer Tate found peace in them as he left here to start his new life watching over us from above.

Oh my he's having a bad hair day.
How many more are the looking for?

Exactly what I want to know, too. The number is already mind-boggling. :banghead:
Eight people so far and not one of them had enough common sense and decency to say "No way, it's wrong." I can only shake my head in disbelief at the road some humans travel on nowadays.
