MS - Royalty Marie Floyd, 20 months, stabbed, found burned in oven, Shaw, 15 Oct 2018 *ARREST*

My first thought was drugs, but that doesn’t really fit with being organized enough to put the baby’s things at the curb. Now I’m guessing a psychotic break. That poor child...

I still suspect drugs could be involved. We had some crazy horrible synthetic stuff surface here last year and I thought of it when I heard of this case.

"...Royalty Marie Floyd was buried following a funeral in Clarksdale including a eulogy by a teary grandfather, WREG-TV reported ....

Investigators have said they don’t know why Jones might have killed the girl.

The girl’s father, John Floyd, spoke publicly about her death for the first time following the funeral.

“I still find it unbelievable to tell you the truth,” he said. “And to try and make heads or tails of what happened, it’s still something I just can’t comprehend right now. I mean it ain’t soaking in for some reason. I’m thinking maybe one day this is all something that just isn’t real.”

Royalty Floyd’s grandfather, James Harris, told mourners that the toddler was “granddaddy’s baby girl.”

“I’ll never forget her,” Harris said. “I don’t want anybody else to forget her. She’ll always, forever, live in our hearts and everything we do.”..."

Does the house have two front doors? I’m confused, it looks more like a duplex than a single family dwelling.

The snake incident is bizarre.

So very sad

Homes with two front doors were very commonly built in the 1800's & early 1900's down south. They are called a Cumberland house. My grandparents' home was built the same way originally, but was eventually added on to and they no longer used either door as an entry. Historically, one door was the entry for guests to the "front room" that was kept company ready and the other was the entry for the family day to day. You can still find a few of those around, either restored or as ramshackle shacks fallen into disrepair. The one in this case looks to me like an old house that has been renovated to some degree. Sometimes those will be converted into two units, sometimes not.

I know I haven't really answered your original question, though, as to whether or not this was being used as a duplex currently. I haven't heard anymore about this case on my local news media but I do know it has traumatized the local LE dealing with it.

Thank you Quill for the explanation of the 2 door entry. Interesting!

Anyone see any new court dates for this "woman"?

TIA! and wishing everyone on this thread a VERY

The Delta is most definitely a very different kind of place and the good people there are hurting over this. Respectfully, please do not use this brush to paint an entire geographic area. This case is horrific enough to see on the local news right now. Good, bad, ugly and evil reside everywhere have I have ever lived.

I completely agree. I live in the Delta, and just a few miles from where this happened. People are devastated.

Linked in the dictionary with the term "macabre."

The South itself is a dire place, deep and dark. And the Delta? Hoooo, child.

Respectfully, this sounds like something from a novel. I live in the Delta, and it certainly has its issues, but it is no worse and no better than any other place.

I have lived in several different areas of the U.S., though born and raised in MS and came "home" to raise my children here. I am not in the Delta, but I have friends and family who live up there. We all just normal people living normal lives. This nightmare is in no way normal for us down here and until something this atrocious happens, no one ever thinks it could happen where they live.

@Not a Belle , have you heard any more local news or anything that you can share with us here?

I completely agree. There is nothing normal about this. What I've heard, and it's all been unofficial, seems to lean toward the psychotic break theory. It's hard for me to imagine anything else that fits (I almost said "makes sense", but nothing about this tragedy does).
