The relationship between Qualls and Harris, of Florence, remains unclear. When pressed Friday, Luke said he didn't know any more details. Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason would not return numerous Clarion Ledger calls Friday seeking more information.

Just after 6 p.m. Thursday, Rankin County deputies were investigating a report of a wanted person on Moncure Road, Sheriff Bryan Bailey said in a Facebook post. Bailey said the suspect would not obey the deputies and displayed a weapon.

Officers fired at the suspect.

"Deputies were forced to take action and used deadly force to stop the threat," Bailey wrote in the post.
