Found Deceased MT - Amy Harding-Permann, 34, Great Falls, 26 Jan 2020

This photo gives a perspective of how close the river is to the back of the home.
Amy Elaine

So, do they think that Amy went into icy cold water? That river is actually the Missouri river, about 50 miles north of Great Falls, is the furthest west steamboats could go on the Missouri river, at Fort Benton, then the river has 5 falls.

I personally wouldn't jump in that river, our dogs used to jump in there all of the time to catch sticks. It doesn't go too fast this time of year. And it isn't that deep. Although, I guess anyone can drown in shallow water.

Here is the depth, the flow rate is very slow this time of year, no run off, and ice in areas.

Multiple persons of interest? Is this going to turn out to be a love triangle?
Basically, he was saying that everyone she had a relationship or contact with is a person of interest. They want to talk to all of those people because they are all "persons of interest." MOO

ETA: He said, "There are several people of interest in any missing person's case."

Yeah, that's what I thought he meant.

Would not be my first choice. However, a Notre Dame female student ended up in a partially frozen pond on campus. From all indications it was a suicide.

Are you saying the Sheriff is misleading the public by saying there are "multiple persons of interest"? She supposedly was barefoot, so I guess a shoe would be contradictory to the last seen information.
<Snipped by me for focus>
1) He said, "There are several people of interest in any missing person's case." IMO, the Sheriff is being both accurate and intentionally noncommittal.
2) "She supposedly was barefoot." I must have missed that. Can you link to this information, please.

I have no idea if something like this might be the case, but...

...back in the 70's when I was a young thing in Montana, a popular thing to do was to find a spot away from prying eyes (usually near the river or the sky or the trees or...), and build a campfire, and bring a sleeping bag and maybe a tarp or two, and make a shelter, and then spend the rest of the evening with a hot beverage and conversation, and, um, whatever else you had in mind.

I don't know whether the riverside there has enough privacy for that. I don't know whether she might have been into that sort of thing. I don't know if people still do it, for that matter. It just bubbled to the top of my memories when I was reading about finding lots of evidence that they need to process. It wasn't exactly leave-no-trace camping :D

Possible theories:
  • Accidental drowning
  • Intentional self-harm
  • Intentional disappearance
  • Foul play at the hands of someone other than boyfriend
  • Foul play, boyfriend did it
That was sort of my point. Why did he say it at all. The way it stands now, they are looking for a young woman who ran away while her boyfriend was calling the police to have her arrested for assaulting him. So, why would there be person(s) of interest, and how is this going to change into a criminal case?. I think the Sheriff is laying a little groundwork to soften the blow.

And as far as the shoe, again that was my point. What did she have on her person that could have been left behind. Not much. So what is the evidence they collected?

Thank you for calling me out on Amy being barefoot.
Somehow "she left on foot" - in my brain, morphed into "she left barefoot".
Amy's footwear has never been described, I highly doubt she was barefoot. Sorry posters!

I think in the river is too easy. Too obvious. But they say there is some truth in every lie. I guess we’ll see

There is a lot of open land in the area. The river, is so intensely managed from Great Falls, with numerous dams, that a body would be found pretty quickly INMO, in the river, especially with it being relatively low and slow this time of year.

But, the rest of the area? Lots of space, even close to town.

"The amount of data collection and information that we obtained today was massive. There's a massive amount of evidence and data that was collected and we're going to have to sort through all that, and that's gonna take a long time."

Barefoot? Incredible. That area is hard, sharp rocks, areas of ice. Even the bike path by the river is too rough for barefoot.

Here is a map of the river and trails.
River's Edge Trail | City of Great Falls Montana
We don't know that she was barefoot. However, her footwear, if any, was not included in the description of what she was wearing. We know she left on foot.

Thank you for the map. :) MOO

Where’s her phone? I searched in the articles, and I’m a fail on searching this thread on my phone. Anyone?

LE uses the word “data” which means to me phone, computer, etc

These are my thoughts:

When someone calls 911, they are in fear. Was her boyfriend in fear? He is much larger than her. It seems strange to me that he said she was specifically “headed toward the river”. Where are the entrances to the house? Does the front or back door face the river? If he was watching her out the window, it was very dark, are there lights that are bright he’d be able to see her?

911 is used when there is an actual emergency. He is a surgeon, she is a respected OR nurse. I’d like to know if the assault on him was extremely serious that would warrant that kind of call.

IMHO nothing about this sounds right, and it could be the news reporting very limited information. Really wish we had more details.

If there was a weapon shown or used, that could constitute assault.

Sheriffs are now looking for the community's help in the search for Amy Hardings
John also said that sheriffs found her phone at the house and now has it in their custody.

So she had time to get a hoody, maybe some shoes, (or not) but left her phone? Not buying it
