GUILTY MT - Beverly, 79, Gregory Giannonatti, 57, murdered, Deer Lodge, 24 Oct 2015

  • #361
He obviously had stolen and pulled off selling the silver bars prior to any kidnapping or murder of Beverly or Greg. I wonder what/when he decided to go further and why? (the gold bar) and if so, if he admitted to murder, and admitted to theft of the silver, then why not the gold.....there is yet another piece missing to this puzzle. IMHO

We don't know if he admitted to the theft of the silver. They have proof it was him that sold them to the dealer - he used his real name on the receipt. They might also have him on video. On the other hand, the gold is still missing...

I'm just waiting to see which law enforcement officer will get busted for not turning over the gold bar that they probably found at the victims house. Jmo.

Internal affairs may want to get involved. Jmo

Well I have to amend my above post. Its the petition that says September. Here is the link to it:
http://mtstandard.com/david-wayne-n...pdf_eb8b5962-20bd-5597-99cc-e0af33a44cc3.html

I noticed that too. It is obviously a mistake. Maybe he stole the silver in September and they forgot to change the date on the form for when he committed murder. It's strange, but I've noticed mistakes like that quite often on affidavits and similar documents. It seems at times, as if they are just going through the formalities of filling out the paperwork, but they are not always meticulous with the details.

LOL! I think you might watch too many crime shows on TV. ;) Actually, I'd buy that with something smaller, but not a gold bar worth half a million dollars.

Beverly was in no means an "elderly person" in the usual sense of the word. She was still very active in painting and maintaining her many rental properties. She was one of the sharpest people I knew. Always dressed very nicely. She was impeccable in everything she did. I knew her for over 30 years and would never describe her as elderly.

Give me a break!

I find it shocking that locals wouldn't recognize Greg. Its not a very large place and he has lived there a while. You know he went out and about, as his neighbors took notice of his comings and goings. I'm sure he ate with his mom at local dining establishments now and then. They were described as being very close.
I have lived in Deer Lodge for 45 years and knew Beverly most of that time but did not know her son. They were very private people.

Finally caught up after a few days away. I suppose we'll learn that this monster was working at Greg's place and did a bit of snooping around and discovered the silver AND the gold. Stole the silver, sold it, and decided to go back for the gold but didn't realize it had been collected by Bev already. Greed and anger consumed him and that's when he did what he did. Piece of garbage that he is.

This is a very strange story. Wonder if Gregory was an only child? I'm supposing they both lived alone in their own homes.
Also curious as to when Gregory's father passed?

Beverly's ex-husband Bill passed away in October 2015 as a result of shingles.

William C. Giannonatti passed away on the 31st day of August at St. James Hospital in Butte.
Bill was born to Carlos and Rosella Giannonatti on April 28, 1930 at the family ranch in Buffalo, S.D., and attended country grade school. The family moved to Portland, Ore. during the war and Bill graduated from which school in Portland. Upon the death of his mother, he returned to South Dakota and began his career with the Milwaukee Railroad.
In 1957, Bill married Beverly Giannonatti, ending in 1999. They had two sons, Gregory and Darrell. Bill was preceded in death by Darrell, and Greg is presently living in Deer Lodge.

When looking at the timeline....

If you click on Dec 4th....it alleges that he did cop to the theft of the silver, but not the gold....Just odd to admit to one, but not the other...unless they are keeping that close to the vest for right now.
On Dec. 4, Nelson admits to killing Beverly and Gregory Giannonatti in a sworn affadavit.

He also admits to stealing 17 silver bars belonging to Greg Giannonatti. Th3 25-pound gold ingot that went missing with the Giannonattis is unmentioned and undiscovered.

Welcome Deerlodgelifer!
Sorry for your loss.
Bev and Greg seem like such nice people.
It is horrible and sad what happened to them both.
Thank you for posting on the thread.

The official affidavit filed in Ravalli County says he is suspected of stealing the 17 silver bars. I have the feeling the Billings Gazette might have misreported on that. IMO http://mtstandard.com/david-wayne-n...pdf_ea9af205-074a-5f6c-ae42-473d149c48cb.html

Well, she could have said something like she got it from her ex's house and "now would have to figure out what to do with it." or something else along those lines. Vague enough for whomever she told not to know exactly where it was stashed away, but clear enough that she still had it. I mean, originally the gold bar was just hanging around her exhusband's house, so maybe she was going to do the same with it. If he didn't keep it in a safe deposit box, maybe she wasn't going to either, at least not right away.

I have to wonder if this creep was posing as some sort of investor of the real estate type. Acting as if he was going to buy or sell some property and that gained her trust. She may have even told him herself about the gold bar. Who knows? If he made himself out to be someone with money, she may have even asked him if he knew about gold trading to get some advice on how to deal with the gold bar.

I'm only suggesting this since someone mentioned that it was rumored that she was seen around town with him, and that makes me wonder about the kind of conversations that would have transpired between them.

jmo

He was a handy man and the scuttlebutt on the street here in Deer Lodge is that he may have been doing or had done some odd jobs for Bev in some of her rentals.

The Sheriff's office consists of the Sheriff and 4 deputies. If one of them showed with extra cash I think it would be noticed quickly. I'm quite certain none of them have it. BTW...there is no internal affairs here.

Welcome Montana Voice! So glad you decided to sign up and join the discussion. For some reason, the font on your post is messed up and very hard to read. However, the part about the prison being there and the rental property situation is very interesting. So it sounds like Deer Lodge is different from most other small towns in Montana in that there would be more of a transient population and a rather criminal nature to some of its residents. Is that correct?

Deer Lodge doesn't have any more criminals than any other small town. When inmates are released from prison they normally get out if town as fast as possible.

Thanks Deerlodgelifer. My comment was more in regards to the type of people that would move into town to be near their loved ones that are in prison. I'm sure inmates get out of town fast when released, but their families are living there while they are incarcerated.
