Family searching for 26-year-old daughter who disappeared 3 weeks ago in Sidney, Montana (nbcnews.com)

[...]

Carmell lives in Grand Forks, North Dakota, about a six-hour drive from Sidney, and told Dateline that it is pretty typical to go a few days without speaking with Katelynn. “She’s 26 years old. She’s an adult. We would call her and we just thought she was maybe selectively deciding not to take our call that day or for a couple of days, because she would go off and spend some time with friends and we wouldn’t hear from her for a few days.”

Both Carmell and Hank had been calling Katelynn for a couple of days. It would ring and ultimately go unanswered. Same with texts. There was no reply when asked if she was going to come over for Christmas. ...

Eventually, Carmell says that Katelynn’s phone started going directly to voicemail. ...

[...]

Carmell said she was worried because, “her coat was laying there and it’s really cold here in Montana, North Dakota. You have to have a coat -- we’ve been below zero.”

[...]

Carmell said Hank has access to Katelynn’s call logs since her phone is on his family plan. He wasn’t able to read any of Katelynn’s texts, but Carmell said he could see the call history. Carmell followed up with Dateline via email saying there were no outgoing calls after December 21.

[...]

The sheriff told Dateline that they are reaching out to the friends and associates who were in contact with Katelynn prior to her disappearance. “We do have information that she had other friends that she may have been in contact with,” he said, “But that is part of the investigation that I can’t reveal at this time.”

[...]

So technically, the last *known* cellphone activity from Berry herself is a call made on the 21st? Because in post #3 on the first page of the thread, it states "Berry had contact with individuals on 23rd and 24th" and that a text message had been sent from Berrys' phone. The text is said to have been sent after midnight on the 30th. Obviously meaning that anyone could've sent texts/posts but the last time her voice was heard is the call on the 21st.

Is this correct/verified info?

Wonder if the vape was still there? Is it possible she was smoking outside and just kept her boots on, no jacket, whenever she went out for a smoke?

Could someone else know the keypad code? It just seems like someone else is involved here.

Noting there seems to be a casino (Lady Luck?) *right beside* the Town Pump convenience store/gas station.

Katelynn Berry did not have a car. That is very frustrating. Most people want to go to Williston or some place. Not having access to a car in Montana is very limiting. Especially if she had friends in the area, Plentywood, Glasgow, Poplar, Wolf Point. There is zero public transportation to go anywhere in Sidney. The closest transportation is Glasgow, MT, there is an Amtrak station there, Empire Builder.

So, unless she walked somewhere, if she left town it was with someone.

The phon
Apollo, thanks for the update's in Berry's case. Hopefully once Berry's phone is analyzed we'll know more about her call and text history, should local LE decide to release that information.

Based on this report, her phone was found laying face down on the sofa in her apartment, rather than on a kitchen counter or table top. If both the sofa and the phone are dark colored, then it's possible Berry's father might not have actually seen the phone when he tried to call her from inside her apartment. However, this would also suggest the phone ringer volume was either very low or turned off/silenced at the time.
the phone was going to voicemail and not ringing according to her father. Did they dust for fingerprints or partial prints on that phone, i wonder. If the downstairs neighbors knew the keypad number or forced her to give them the code they could have thrown the phone on the couch knowing someone would eventually find it. Her dad not finding the phone in his numerous searches is really not unsusal, my dear husband can open the fridge and cannot find a pack of Kraft Deluxe Singles in a 5x30 inch area, ha ha. Cracking that phone is not all that easy, you can jailbreak one but it wipes it clean and that would be devastating. I wonder why the family cannot just retrieve information from the cloud? Things like this just slow up progress when time is of the essence. I understand she might have just walked away and maybe even purchased a burner phone that she can use if she just wanted to disappear for a while. That area she was in is industrial so that means anyone could be involved. Someone had the opportunity and they took it.

A general search on her name yields a result with address in East Grand Forks, on multiple sites - one of which says her
former address is the one we have for Sidney....could be bogus/error, but looks legit...anyone?

Family searches for Sidney woman who disappeared just before Christmas (ktvq.com)
[...]

Hank reported Katelyn missing to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office on Dec 31. Both Hank and Mattison suspect foul play. ...

[...]

The ongoing investigation has included multiple searches all over the area. Hank spoke with Richland County sheriff's deputies just yesterday, Dec 12.

“There’s definitely some people of interest, I think, you know that process is still in the works,” Hank said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are also aiding the sheriff’s department.

“They had Montana DCI (Division of Criminal Investigation) in here yesterday, the FBI was in here, they have another FBI agent coming in from out east,” Hank said.

Katelynn’s family has upped the reward from $10,000 to $25,000 if someone will safely return their daughter by her 27th birthday on Feb 1.

Oddly, I have seen nothing about this case on local news or in local newspapers.

I just saw this pop up on a Billings FB KULR, I think, today. I tried to bring the article over but failed. But still I was happy to see it getting some time on the news.

Her mother lives in Grand Forks and she went to elementary, middle and some high school there.
Katelynn Berry, a 26-year-old former resident of Grand Forks, was first reported missing to police in Sidney, Montana, on Dec. 31. Her mother is Carmell Mattison , a Grand Forks County prosecutor. Mattison, some family friends, and Hank Berry , Katelynn’s father, are offering a combined $25,000 for their daughter’s safe return by Feb. 1 or information directly leading to it. They upped that figure from $10,000 to $25,000 on Thursday, Jan. 13.

“As long as we get her back,” Hank Berry said. Feb. 1 is Katelynn Berry’s birthday.

Law enforcement officials have begun a pair of investigations into Katelynn Berry’s disappearance: a missing persons case and a criminal investigation . Police have searched the area around the woman’s apartment with dogs, drones, and helicopters, according to Richland County Sheriff John Dynneson. Sidney, a town of about 6,400 people near the Montana/North Dakota border, is the county seat.

Here we are still putting our heads together, sharing information, and nothing has changed. They have not seen their daughter, heard her voice, or hugged her since before Christmas. This case really bothers me as a mother. There are so many opportunists out there. Someone knows something but they lack the decency to help this family. I just have a gut that the neighbors know something. When that phone is cracked open this thing is going to move quickly and then maybe the public can be of more help with the who, what, when, where. Some mom out there has a child who who is acting strange, she knows it in her heart. She needs to do the right thing, she would not want her to child to be missing and have zero to go on. I assume excuses have been made for the perp their entire life, always someone else’s fault, or the fault of drugs. When you lie your head down tonight think about this family, think about how they have not taken a deep breath since Christmas. If you turn your child in you no longer have to worry about them, they will go to prison and you can go visit. Your child can get the help they so desperately need. Montana has the death penalty but it has not been used in the 21st Century. You will be able to visit, call, and write. You will have this burden off your chest and you will be able to breathe. Please make that call, it is the right thing to do, i beg you, end the suffering for this family!

It is true that no one has been sentenced to death in Montana since the 20th century, but the last execution was in this millenium, in 2006. Montana stayed executions because the fast-acting barbiturate it used was no longer available. Montana still has people on death row.

I wonder if there is a way for parents to determine if KB had stopped taking her medication? Or if she was involved with some sort of community provider who was overseeing her care?

It is not uncommon for people with mental health issues to stop taking their medication. Or to have uneven communication with family members. I understand better now, why the parents were not immediately upset when KB was not home for Christmas.

I wonder if KB's phone was under her parents plan, or if she had her own plan.

Her father said in an interview the phone was under his plan. He also said he contacted the provider and they were of no help at all.

Odd. Because my daughter's plan is under our plan, I can see all of the activity on the bill, under her phone number.
