One thing that I've thought of that would support the suicide angle is that the only one who may have known the family's true finances hasn't public spoken AFAIK. Neither the cousin nor the daughter would necessarily know if the husband and wife were putting on a brave face saying nothing was wrong in spite of them both apparently being out of work. It looks like the daughter's wedding is a huge deal and that could have been reason enough for the parents to say all is well so as to not worry their daughter. The stress of putting on a brave face for so long could have pushed the mother over the edge, with her still trying to protect her daughter in the manner of which she committed suicide.
