I wouldn't go by anything the DailyMail writes about this case. This is the same news outlet that posted photos and interviews about the "suspect" at the convenience store....who turned out NOT to be a suspect and who didn't use her card. This is not a reliable source, imo, especially on this case. "Floor" probably means "ground."

I'm sticking with what LE says out of their own mouths or press releases....and I hope they say something soon.

forgive me, what does this mean? I am missing something here. I agree that the keys being in the ignition is odd, but what does it have to do with shutting the trunk? Maybe it is too early for me to be here today lol...

Which might take us to hit man -- insurance for her daughter - apperently they were very enmeshed. THe religon factor also haunts me -- could that be why she wanted it to look like a crime -- shame?

Actually, I can't find mention of her funeral at all--just memorials that were held. And the is still active. I wonder if they have not released the body yet? Surely by now they have all the evidence they need to give her body back to her family for burial, right?

In most cases, they are pretty accurate. WS would not allow them to be linked if they were satire. JMO of course.

Yeah, Dailymail is usually pretty accurate. I like them because they do in-depth articles with lots of big pictures. There's often info there that others haven't reported.
However, they are willing to print stuff that hasn't been fully verified, and sometimes they do get it wrong. So you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt...

I also think it was suicide. Correct me but she was taking trip to see her mother who was sick then decided to go and see some other family before going home. She goes to rest stop where she is knocked out and thrown in trunk. When she called her husband was the daughter there with him also? One of them called 911 to report it,cop calls her phone and they hear shots.

I think she was going around to say goodbye to her family. Called them to make them think she was kidnapped kinda like the cop did in Illinois months ago.

The motive IMO is money one of the cousins did an interview for the Daily Mail where she talked about the daughter getting married and it was paid for but then I found a gofundme that said money was needed for daughters wedding and to bring son home. <modsnip>

With husband laid off and she not making enough does anyone know if she had life insurance? If she did then the husband would be able to claim it if she was kidnapped but not for suicide.

I don't believe we have heard for certain whether Rita had life insurance but we have discussed it at length. We've been waiting patiently for an update/final ruling from LE.

someone questions why she didn't call fr 10 hrs......she said she was hit in the head.....was she knocked out?......as far as phones go, phones can be old,damaged, difficult to use, spotty coverage, etc.....

occams razor.....what seems like the most likely scenario probably is the right scenario.....

We still don't know whose blood it was or exactly where it was found, but if it was her blood, and it hadn't dripped from the trunk when she died, this seems like a possible scenario. That is so what I think- if someone bopped her over the head, forensics would be able to tell if it was her or not (angles)

so they know either that happened or not

but where I ger confused is medical examiner knows this is self inflicted bop on her head - what is the hesitation to declare, wounds on the skull clealry indicate that this sucide

what is the motivation for LE not just to wrap this up

on the side, wounds are consistant with a strike from another person

LE is being weird on this one imo

Didn't it take six months for the ME to rule in suicide in Cheryl DeBoer's case? I'm trying to remember other cases but the only ones I can think of at the moment were obviously suicides.

Law enforcement officials said it all comes down to processing lab work. Like many potential crime scenes, there was a lot of evidence that needed to be processed. They said it is a time consuming effort.
As a result, FBI agents said the final report on what happened to Rita Maze likely will not be issued until this spring.
Despite the fact, the incident initially appeared to be a random case, police said the public was never at risk.
At this time, the Spokane County medical examiner has listed her death as &#8220;pending further investigation.&#8221;
Maze died from a single gunshot wound to the chest and the abdomen.
A member of the FBI said if there was a person of interest they were looking for and needed the public's help, they would have released more information.
