Thanks for the continued news updates and discussion about Sherry Arnold. I've been focused on the cruise ship tragedy in Italy and haven't paid much attention to other news for the past few days.

Wow! In his Myspace Page, Spell still looks like his nose had been broken already, but it looks like that picture was taken in much "happier" days!

In one of the myspace pics he is holding a football. It made me wonder if he was involved in other sports, and more specifically wrestling. My bff in high school wrestled and has that the same nose issues, except his wasn't as bad as Spell's.

I too thought I saw that as well.

Yes....I think I was actually the one that brought it up again because I thought I had seen something about a post office witness, but couldn't remember where it came from!
Sorry! :blushing:

Could he have taken a back route because he was attempting fly under the radar as much as possible?

Something else that has puzzled me: if Spell decided to return to CO early on he had a number of days to get there, yet as far as we know he was found relatively close to the scene of the crime.

Here is a link to roads in South Dakota [no more maps, I promise ;) ] http://www.safetravelusa.com/sd/

There is no direct route from Williston to Rapid City without a car/truck. 85 is a truckers route. The bus route takes him through Montana, WY and onto 90 into Rapid City. He had to have a connection to Rapid to go there.

I know I've heard that truckers use meth speed to keep them going since they often times need to work for longer stretches of time. I think I've heard that the companies that drill into our beautiful oceans are required to work long stretches of time too (ie: 3-4 days long shifts/ 3-4 days off). If that is the case I wonder if that holds true for the land oil drilling?

IF that is the case I wonder if that is something that attracted Waters to drilling oil or even to supplying drugs to oil workers.

These two are such an odd couple I just have to wonder if the connection is related to criminal behavior.

Where are you getting this info about truckers and oil drillers using meth?? It seems pretty insensitive to paint everyone with that broad brush of yours. My husband, while in college, worked one week on, one week off on a drilling rig in the beautiful ocean. He's been an oil man for 30 years. Never used meth. Don't know anyone who is.

After the article about Spell's family. I was wondering about Waters' family. So, I did a little checking in the Indian River Clerk of Courts site. It seems that he has been married to a KWaters, they had a disolution done in 2004. All of kinds of judgments and court cases relating to Waters and his ex-wife suing for child support. I am not sure how many children that they had, but it looks like two and then another woman sued for child support too. Doesn't seem to be anything else for the past two years though. I would assume he left Florida two years ago or didn't have any kind of run in with the law. With his background I would find that hard to believe. Interesting that we haven't heard from his family...yet. IMO

Here is the route from Williston to Rapid City. What I'm having difficulty with concerning Spell going to Rapid City is IF he took this bus he could have gotten off at Billings, MT, Buffalo, WY, or Gillette, Wy and gotten to Denver and then to Parachute. At Buffalo, WY he would have been on I-25 and about 6 hours north of Denver. Doesn't make sense to me. If there was someone in Williston who had connections to Rapid City, he could have gotten a ride with them and hid out in Rapid City. :waitasec: There may well have been a third person involved.

This may have already been asked...but wouldn't there be records of transactions at bus stations for these men, even if tickets were paid in cash?

Maybe LE has this information? (Hopefully?)

Just a thought...the first name I saw on Waters' alias list was Larry Chapman. Has anyone found any information under that name? I ask because the other aliases are relatively close to the name we have been provided. But Larry Chapman is quite different, so I wonder if that is an "alter ego"?

I'm sorry that I did not say that I've heard that there may be some truckers/ oil workers that use speed as a way to keep them awake and feeling alert when time demands push them to work longer shifts than normal.

My boyfriend worked for a company who's main business is semi-trucking, although he worked in another, much smaller, field in that same company. So we've socialized with families of truckers.

There was a period when my boyfriend was feeling very insecure about his job because the company was receiving a lot of heat and and a lawsuit that would cost it a lot of money. IIRC the lawsuit brought to light that the individual trucker's ability to drive safely was compromised because suffering from lack of sleep. The company itself was under fire because this was a common occurrence that the company was accused of encouraging even though they were not telling the drivers to push themselves in this manner and they certainly were not telling to use speed.

I've just spoken a lot with wives about the stressors that come with having a hubbie that is a truck driver. Speed use and exhausting schedules are two of them and they can have a devastating affect on the relationship as well as to the public. Its especially frustrating when they feel like those who can do something about that do not do so.

Anyway, here is a page from the internet a grabbed from the internet about this issue:

The primary users of methamphetamine in South Carolina are Caucasian. Commercial truck drivers use the drug to increase alertness, crack abusers switch to methamphetamine for its longer-lasting euphoric effects and lower cost, and young people use the drug at rave parties. Among high school students in South Carolina, females (7.2%) were nearly as likely as males (8.8%) to report lifetime methamphetamine use, similar to national averages of 8.4 percent for females and 9.9 percent for males.

And then here is a lawsuit addressing it:

Regarding the oil workers and use of meth speed by some in that profession. I lived in Washington state for awhile and knew many there that had connections to the oil industry. There are just many in that region of the country that are involved in drilling and fracing.

As with trucking I became aware of the relationship between the demands of that profession and uppers and other performance enhancing drugs.

So anyway, here is a site that discusses the use of speed and other criminal activity that affect the communities where there is a lot of drilling.

Drugs and Crime
Many rural communities are experiencing a rise in drug use and drug-related crimes that either correspond with new oil and gas development or, in some cases, is directly linked to development in existing fields. The poster child for this phenomenon is methamphetamine or “meth,” whose production and use has become an “epidemic” that has “engulfed” rural communities going through an oil and gas boom. As documented by High Country News, the long hours and other rigors of the drilling schedule are fueling meth use. Related crime and costs to users and others in their families drive up emergency and social service costs.

My apologies if my remarks were applied too broadly and/or in an insensitive manner, it was not my intention to do so because I do realize that not all truckers, oil workers or gas workers use drugs. I hope that I've done a good job of explaining this. If I have not, please let me know how I can do so and of course if you would prefer I will go and delete my original post and even this post.

I think it's entirely possible that Waters and Spell were dealing meth or other drugs to oil workers or truckers. By the way, my father in law is a long haul trucker and I don't take any of your comments personally, daisy. Obviously drug use is a problem in many types of work. Truckers and oil workers are no exception.

sorry for the O/T but for those following the Jorelys Rivera case: Ryan Brunn just pled guilty to all charges.

It is in the awaiting trial forum

My husband works for a business that has oil field workers that travel often and deals with constant problems from the crews. They are known for drinking, drugging, and general mayhem since they are all away from their families and living in motels. My husband got sent out one time to supervise and said he'd never go again. I think they scared him.

Yesterday evening I posted that I thought that Sherry was last seen jogging by the post office.

I just looked and I can't find any articles that say that so I asked for that post to be removed.

I'm really, really sorry that I messed that up.

I believe that the one witness who gave a media interview, Lonnie Lyttle, mentioned the post office. It was on streaming video, not in print.

I do not have a link to back it up and I have a terrible memory, though.

Confused here - help!

I might have missed how these two are linked to Sherry - I mean, where did it come from that they killed her?

I've tried to read everything, but probably missed this bit.

All we know officially is that an anonymous tip to LE led their arrest.

I think rather focusing on a possible drug element in this case, I would rather wonder what occurred that brought these two together and what happened that morning. I would hate to generalize about truckers or oil workers etc. in the same manner that the mayor did about the oil workers "owning the night". It doesn't change the fact that this woman is still missing. Regardless of whether they were doing drugs or not, this woman is likely deceased. Through an accident or a kidnapping, only time will tell.

I wonder if Spell was on his way back to Parachute and was bailing out and got picked up.
