I'm curious if they think this is homicide or a murder-suicide, or some other fluke of a thing since they both ended up deceased.

I knew the missing couple and am close with family members. They'd been hoping that they'd just run away and used the suicide note to stop people from searching, but this news is more just closure for the family than anything.

I knew Jay personally as well, I've known him since we were in high school. I didn't meet Annie but I heard a lot about her from him.
Now about that suicide note that his family has REFUSED to show to me or anyone else that is a mutual friend is pretty damn suspicious. Jay did suffer from DID and battled with depression but there's a whole lot of his friends that do NOT believe that he would ever commit suicide. And unless they decided to go die of hypothermia in the snow, police didn't find a weapon or anything to indicate that they actually did commit suicide from the articles I've been able to find.
And there haven't been any updates confirming the bones are actually Jay and Annie last I could find they sent the bones to be analyzed.

There have been no updates since December of 2017. One thing I found odd in the reporting is the missing posters on Facebook have them going missing from Vista California, with the vehicle found in Montana. Are there any records through credit cards that they were in the vehicle on that journey?

They both are from Vista California and they're family is located there. They were moving from Vista up to Washington when they went missing. The family wasn't sure if they had actually made it to Washington before they went missing so that's why they put Vista as where they went missing.

Mineral County Sheriff Mike Toth believes the remains belong to two missing Washington people from 2017.

According to Sheriff Toth, authorities believed the individuals may have committed suicide due to a letter that was mailed to the mother by one of the victims.

Sheriff Toth told MTN News he has strong reason to believe the remains are associated with the missing persons cold case.

“We have no other missing persons out there," he said, "The time frame matches, some of the clothing that was found matches what we believe they were wearing.
