Police are about to give an update.

I can’t begin to imagine how scary this attack was for the passengers. The train had no option but to carry on running for about 15 minutes from when the attack started at Peterborough to the next station.

Thoughts are with those injured

The world has gone mad.
Do you have a source for stating this attack began at Peterborough? I heard speculation vocalised at the presser via a question.

This has been stated in different media reports including accounts from witnesses.

Snipped

The attack is believed to have started shortly after the train departed Peterborough station, with passengers hiding in toilets as one suspect wielded a 'large knife,' according to witnesses.

BBC article adding that 999 call came in about 7.40pm, Huntingdon is about 15 mins by train from Peterborough and that police arrived about 8 minutes after the call came in. So that matches with the attacks starting just after the Peterborough stop.

Viorel Turturica, 42, the taxi driver who captured the footage, said before the man was arrested he was shouting 'kill me, kill me, kill me' to the officers.

The taxi driver said: 'I had arrived at the station pick up point at 7:41 pm and was waiting for a passenger.

'As soon as I see the passenger a few minutes later I then see everybody running out of the station.

'Then 10 seconds later a man dressed in black holding a huge kitchen knife in his hand runs past my car at 7:47 pm.

'The police arrive seconds later and I could hear him shouting 'kill me, kill me, kill me' to them.

'They then taser him and as soon as he is down they say to him 'drop your weapon', that's when I started recording.

It looks as though they are being very careful (or maybe disingenuous?) with the wording about the background of these men.

If they've decided this is not, after all, terrorist related the mental health card will shortly be wheeled out.

The term "British nationals" makes it clear to me.

If they wanted to stop speculation I am very surprised that they did not release the fact that the two arrested were British Nationals much earlier .
People are so cynical after all the cover ups especially after Southport that they have very little confidence about the information released to the public.

One is described as a British national. The fact that they are described differently may indicate a difference in their origins.

ETA that I see they are both now being described as British nationals.

Both were described as British nationals at the press conference.

From The Guardian link above:

  • Police said one suspect is a Black British national and the other is a British national of Caribbean descent. Both men, aged 32 and 35, were born in the UK.

Police also declared “Plato”, the national code word used by police and emergency services when responding to a “marauding terror attack”, before the declaration was later rescinded.

18:25: Train heading to King’s Cross London departs from Doncaster
19:29: Train departs Peterborough station
19:39: Police receive reports of multiple stabbings onboard a train
19:44: Emergency stop made at Huntingdon station
20:47: British Transport Police announce on X that two people have been arrested

Adel Rudakubana was born in Britain, but his past was not made available to the public after his arrest. Information is still coming to light from facts reported from the inquiry.

"Train attack suspect shouts

'kill me' after 'stabbing ten' as police say

'no suggestion' of terror.

The shocking mobile phone footage
was taken by a taxi driver
who was near the front of the station waiting to pick up a passenger at the rail station in Cambridgeshire."

Here's a recap of everything we now know:
  • ''Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident on board a London-bound train. They are a 32-year-old black British man and a 35-year-old British man of Caribbean descent
  • Eleven people in total were treated in hospital following the incident. Two remain in a life-threatening condition while four have since been discharged
  • Police say there is nothing to suggest it is a terrorist incident and have asked the public to come forward with any more information
  • Armed officers boarded the train and arrested the two suspects within eight minutes of the first 999 calls from passengers, who raised the alarm at about 19:42
What we don't yet know:
  • Police have not given a motive for the attack and say it's not appropriate to speculate
  • They have also not released the identities of the two men now in police custody''
