Cambridgeshire train stabbing: suspects both British and ‘nothing to suggest’ attack was terrorism, say police – latest updates

I’ll bet the people on the train were terrorized.
Of course but I'm sure they just meant this was not a political carried out attack by a group.

Following the attack that has left nine people with life-threatening injuries, Shabana Mahmood said her thoughts “go out to all those affected”.

She added: “I am receiving regular updates on the investigation. I urge people to avoid comment and speculation at this early stage.”

Ms Cunningham blasted: “I can’t stop thinking about those victims, 10 beautiful lives, families in agony waiting to see if they pull through, I am devastated. We are a nation in mourning.

“And Shabana’s first instinct isn’t fury, urgency or a vow to catch them or make our trains safe. Her priority is to silence us, to manage our reaction not our safety.

"A vow to catch" who exactly? Surely, since she apparently cares so much, Ms Cunningham was aware that the two suspects were already in custody?

And I don't blame the spokespeople for trying to "manage our reaction". The aftermath of Southport proved that an unfortunately large segment of the British public need to be carefully managed. This country is volatile as hell right now and it would be extremely reckless of the government and police not to treat it as such.

These words mean utterly zilch.

Mr Foster said he had been listening to Audible on his phone in Coach H when warnings began to sound from other passengers.

He told the BBC: 'There were a few of us kind of looking at each other, thinking was it a joke - like, it's Halloween, they might be pranking.

'But then you could kind of see in their faces they were running.

'There was a girl, bless her, who was really, really in a bit of a state because the guy actually tried to stab her - and one of the older guys who as an absolute hero blocked it with his head.'

Mr Foster said the hero gentleman received a gash to his neck and head, prompting other passengers to hand him their jackets to help him stem the blood.

This is horrific. Anyone else feel like that whole world is going mad? It's enough to make you never want to leave your house!
Most definitely yes. I have felt this way for a long, LONG time. And unfortunately, I feel it's going to get worse, not better. I wish I was wrong but I fear I am not. :(

From the witness accounts, it sounds like there was only one person actively attacking people. That could be because there were two attackers in different carriages, but if there actually was only one person committing the stabbings, I'll be interested to know what the other guy was doing.

I hope all the injured pull through and that all the passengers and staff who witnessed the attack and its aftermath are offered mental health support

Yes I too have felt this like for quite while. I think women on some level have always felt fearful of some sort of attack when out alone, especially at night. I don't go out at night alone at all anymore but I think now anyone could be at risk with more random attacks occurring. The world seems full of hate and like you say it seems to be getting worse.

I also fear you may be right. There's so much happening just in this country (not to speak of the rest of the world!) that makes me despair wondering where we even go from here

Possibly two men planned this horrific attack together -- maybe even going after a child? How low can you get? I hope if guilty, the justice system gives them the absolute maximum sentence.

I completely share your fears. The ordinary people on the streets have had enough.
Every time there is a major incident the energy in the pressure cooker grows <modsnip- political>

Second police press conference set for 6pm

From this link:

The attacker said “the devil’s not going to win” as he came at passengers with a knife.

He sounds either crazy or high on drugs. Or both.

Edit- sorry for the double post, I meant to add this to the previous post.

It sounds exactly like the Brazilian perp who stabbed a boy going to school in the UK.
He also attacked Police officers helping the victim :(
and even broke into a house injuring the residents.
But I don't remember the details as the attack happened some time ago.
There is a thread on WS.
(Something like "Sword attack in Hainault")

This is all horrific 😢

Was confident it would be someone who is perspectively challenged.
