Multiple people stabbed on train in cambridgeshire England . November 1st 2025

Honestly, my first thought when the news broke was that I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. Sometimes when I'm on the tube in London, I suddenly find myself thinking about how it's mostly a matter of pure luck that there's never been a repeat of 7/7
I guess it's the level of intent, perhaps the level is low and such can be monitored effectively by the security services, just a thought.

So the man was in London on Saturday morning then on a train heading to London later in the day?

He lives ( or hopefully that will now be lived ) in Peterborough, so probably went back home at some time on the Saturday, then decided to return to London that evening.

Just linking the article with the relevant info

Anthony Williams, 32, of Peterborough

Police said he has also been charged with another count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in connection with an incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station in the early hours of the same day.

What do we know about man charged over train stabbings?

Eta: DLR = Docklands Light Railway in London

Glad to see the LNER hero worker seems to be improving and is now in a more stable condition.

I travel on trains a lot and I do worry this could possibly be the start of a new style of attack - just like we’ve had the vans rampaging crowds etc.

I feel people will see it now as a clever way to attack.. numerous people on board.. no exit between stations.. confined space.. no security.

I think it’s a miracle that nobody was killed considering this man had about 10+ minutes with a knife against ultimatey defenceless people.
It's been done before now. Remember the London Bridge stabbings? The Christmas London stabbings? Think our security services do s good job of identifying potential attackers and nipping it in the bud tbh. This is different as it didn't involve the routes ti radicalisation we see with terrorists. It's those routes that allow the police to identify them.

I too am genuinely surprised no one was killed. Although if I am correct I might say this guy was in a frenzy and lacking the coherence of mind that would mean more serious injuries. In essence I think he was swinging wildly but perhaps not quite as deliberate as someone intent on killing. More slashy, not so much stabby.

Why not? It depends on the timings but if he boarded a train from King's Cross early in the day he'd have been in Peterborough within an hour or so and could have got back on a southbound train within a further half hour. This was a service on the East Coast main line with trains running at least half-hourly. It's not Amtrak out west with one service in each direction each day :)
It was more the fact that he was allegedly involved in an incident on Saturday morning that he has now been charged for and he was then going up and down on the train which concerned me.

I wonder if he had relatives/ friends / connections. in London which was why he was there on early Saturday and then back on the train again on Saturday evening.
I wonder if there had been any attempt to trace and arrest him after the Saturday morning incident. I would not surprised to hear that he has been involved with the police over a number of years .

How on earth can somebody who has been involved in a knife incident with enough evidence to charge be out wandering about and able to get on another 2 (at least) trains and then go on a stabbing spree???????

  • #128
Obviously he was not arrested after the first incident. He probably just got on a train and got out of dodge. Police couldn't track him then it continued. Rest assured had the police of tracked him he would have been arrested pronto.

Just a further guess. If he has ANY criminal record I bet its to do with drugs and maybe theft.
Not necessarily tbh . Not sure what I can say but it seems there was another incident as such as well the day before

From the Daily Mail link posted above.

Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy of the British Transport Police said: 'The criminal investigation and support for the victims is a priority.

'Our investigation is also looking at other possible linked offences.'

This mentions offences . So more incidents than just the Saturday morning one.

Criminal record ie that he has been convicted of. This might just might be the first time he's really gone ape was my point.

I can't bear the jumping to conclusions and the way people expect to be told everything immediately these days. And the assumption that things are being hidden if we don't get the full details for a while.

Yes, absolutely this. In fact I think this aspect of it is even worse - I can understand the impatience for news to an extent but the conspiratorial mindset that leads one to assume that if information isn’t immediately forthcoming then some sort of cover up must be underway isn’t healthy imo. I think it’s good to be skeptical of people in positions of power but you also have to be realistic about what we, the public, can and should be told, and when.

Hmm...we will see when it goes to court but other things are coming out.

Yeh but as evidence of that line. Heres what makes me think it.

"The attacker told a passenger that "the devil is not going to win" during the rampage, the Daily Mail reports."

That's classic psychotic talk.

I may have misread it, but I thought the police only managed to identify him as being the attacker in the first incident after having arrested him for the second ( Huntingdon ) attack.

  • A man has appeared in court after being charged with 11 counts of attempted murder, following a knife attack on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening and a separate incident in London hours before
  • Anthony Williams, 32 of no fixed address, is also charged with one count of possession of a bladed article and one count of actual bodily harm

In the courtroom a little earlier we heard that Williams is charged with assaulting a police officer following the attack on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

The assault allegedly resulted in a broken nose.

After just seven minutes in the courtroom, the hearing is over.

Anthony Williams has been remanded in custody. He gave his address as "no fixed abode".

His next appearance in court will be at Cambridge Crown Court on 1 December.

That was my understanding, too
