From link above:

The first incident under review involved a man who stormed into Ritzy Barber's shop in Fletton, Peterborough, and waved a knife at terrified customers and staff at 7.25pm on October 31.

However, it was no reported to police until 9.10pm - nearly two hours later.

'At the time of reporting the man was no longer there and had not returned, so we did not send officers, but a crime was raised,' the force said in a statement.

I would have thought that this was not his first crime and that the police would have his photo and other details on file so could identify him quickly.Did they know who they were looking for but just not know his location?

I also wonder if they were expecting other incidents which is why the armed police and other personal were on the scene of the train stabbing so quickly.

I find it interesting that he appeared in court and is not being detained in a secure psychiatric facility.

It could be that there are no vacancies. He could be in a prison psychiatric wing .
Or maybe he has not passed the entrance exam for a place at Broadmoor.

Met Police recorded 16,789 offences involving a knife in 2024 – averaging around 46 a day, ONS figures show

ETA
Here's a stat from the Ben Kinsella charity. A wonderful organisation that sprung from an incredibly tragic and senseless murder by knife in 2008.

"Hospital admissions

3460

the number of admissions into NHS hospitals in England and Wales for assault by a sharp object in the year ending June 2025."

Eta
<modsnip> ... in London there were roughly 4500 injuries caused by knives in 2024/25.

Just as an example and focusing on youth violence who are responsible fir roughly 20% of knife injuries so that's gangs basically the figure stands at 900. So that's roughly 2.4 per day in London alone.

I can also say that the homicide figure in London would be much much much higher if the hospitals and trauma specialists in London hadn't of had so much experience in dealing with sharp instrument trauma over the years. They are more or less world leading experts in it.

"Professor Karim Brohi, Clinical Director of the London major trauma system and Trauma and Vascular surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, said: “The introduction of the major trauma psychology teams across London has been transformative for our patients and for our staff. Major trauma staff have to deal with some of the most harrowing scenes imaginable, day after day. London delivers world class injury care, and we have the best survival rates anywhere."

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed> ... The public’s perception of crime is often quite different to the reality, and this is usually a result of the media people consume.

On crime in London in particular:

In the 12 months to August 2025, there were nearly 9,000 fewer violent crimes resulting in injury across the capital, a fall of nearly 12% from the previous 12 months, according to latest figures from City Hall. Knife crime fell by 19% between April and June this year compared with the same period in 2024, but some offences, such as possession of weapons, and rape, went up. Overall recorded crime in London has increased by 31.5% in the last 10 years, according to the Office for National Statistics.

So a mixed bag, but hardly a city in meltdown, particularly when you throw in an historically low murder rate.

Anthony Williams, 32, of no fixed abode, has been charged in connection with the incident, including 10 counts of attempted murder. Although he is of no fixed abode, a previous address of Langford Road, Fletton, Peterborough, was listed by British Transport Police when he was charged earlier today (Monday, November 3). Residents along Langford Road have shared their reaction to the incident.

This woman said she also didn’t know him, but she may have known the house he lived at. She added: “The house has been rented and people will only stay a month or two. We don’t really get to know people there

ADMIN NOTE:

Threads are dedicated to discussion of the specific case at hand so please stop posting about other cases and bringing in details from those cases. It results in derailing the thread and at times to the point where it's hard to tell which case a post is referring to. This causes a lot of extra work for Mods in removing posts and finding all the responses to off topic posts.

Police have confirmed that the mass stabbings on a train on Saturday have been linked with an attack on a teenager and an incident in a barber shop.

Anthony Williams has been charged with attempted murder after boarding the Doncaster to London King's Cross service at Huntingdon, on Saturday, which saw 11 people treated in hospital.

The British Transport Police have since confirmed the incident is being linked to four other knife incidents that took place in the hours before he allegedly launched the terrifying stabbing spree
