It is ridiculous and the other parton may have been on her lunch break, or had to be somewhere at a certain time and didn't have time to mess with this woman. My sister used her lunch hour to go to a spinning class so when it's time to go it's time to go. Like one poster said, it's part one of a takeover.
A favorite saying of mine - "Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity" - I think this is a similar case - it's not about takeover or whatever, it's about some normal selfish, self-centered person who is only thinking of their own needs. It could be a Catholic saying the rosary who doesn't want to be interrupted to let someone else into their locker - it's simple rudeness, and childish upset at not getting her way, then using religion as a screen to demand her own way. She'd probably be the same about a cell phone call, but then it wouldn't have gotten in the news.

I know you do. And, I hope you also realize that if the hardliners get their way on this, you and I will be the first kinds of people they'll come for.

Do you mean hardline Muslims? OI know I'll never be popular with that crowd.

Here's another one in the news today: Katy, Texas. An Ilsamic group buys 11 acres in this upscale neighborhood and plans to build a mosque for its 500 members. There's fighting with the neighbors and a lot of controversy.

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=local&id=4808968

Craig Baker owns pigs. He's the guy behind the second big yellow sign on Baker Road. That's the one announcing Friday night pig races.

"What does it matter, I can do whatever I want with my land right," asked landowner Craig Baker.

Sure can. But aren't pigs on the property line racing on a Friday night a little offensive to a Muslim neighbor?

"The meat of a pig is prohibited in the religion of Islam," said Katy Islamic Association member Youssof Allam. "It's looked upon as a dirty creature."

Lots more at Google :

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=KATY+TEXAS+ISLAMIC+MOSQUE

The Rocky Mountain News carried this article with a picture of Baker from the AP. They also mentioned a loudspeaker calling Muslims to prayer. Supposedly there's a tape somewhere of what it would sound like and is not supposed to disturb the neighbors.

I can imagine what would happen if someone would come in and buy a parcel of land here in my area for a Mosque. I don't believe there are any Muslims around except for maybe some in the Kit Carson Correctional Facility here.
Kinda funny though - our pig racing guy, in another article, revealled that what he thought was going to happen was a miscommunication - he's still holding the pig races, but only so he doesn't seem an idiot. And, the pig races, according to the muslims aren't a problem for them. They just don't eat pigs.

And there are, IIRC, 1700 muslims - why shouldn't they be able to have a mosque on land they've purchased? If a church could build there, then a mosque should be able to. And.... hey, I think we want these guys where we know where they are. 9/11 hijackers were told to act as Americanized as possible, and avoid mosques - so we couldn't find them. Underground hidden mosques means we don't know where and who they are....

Hardline muslims - especially if you mean the terrorists - don't like anyone else, even (or especially) other Muslims. Just like any extremist, everyone else is their enemy, especially those who agree with them on some things, but not quite everything.

Nah, the muslims have said they don't care if there are pig races - they just believe in not eating it, that's it.

There are extremist, terrorist groups who are muslim, and some definite problems - but, and a very important but - there are also plenty of muslims who are just want to live and let live. There's no point in alienating them.

We all know that there are plenty of muslims who just want to live and let live. We've all said it a million times. That's not what's being discussed.

In the case of the pig races, it is.

That Muslim woman had no right to block another patron's locker for any reason. The other patron should not be required by anyone to have to alter her own time limits, be late for work, picking up kids, etc. because of some other person's stubborness and troublemaking. The manager was correct in what he said. It's a gym and lockers need to be accessed. It shouldn't even be handled in a religious manner since this is the U.S. I don't believe that the manager told her she can't pray there. She just needed to leave the other woman alone and let her get to her things since she is also a paying member of the gym and shouldn't have to be subjected to someone's religious stuff here in the U.S.

Step 1 of the takeover of the US by Islam?
I think that is a horrible statement to make. Regardless of what nationality or religion, people should feel free to worship as they wish. We should not be breeding disrespect or disregard for others.

How is this breeding disrespect for her religion?
Would it be ok if she laid down on a city street to pray? The doorstep to your home?

To say that Muslims are going to take over is very disrespectful. It generalizes all Muslims and that is not fair to them. I have friends that are Muslim, and they are no more taking over the world than I am.

They may not want to take over the world (your friends). I'm almost positive that my muslim friends aren't wanting to take over the world.

However, Ahmadinejad is sticking to his convert or die philosophy in the name of Islam.
============================

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has warned Western leaders to follow the path of God or "vanish from the face of the earth".

"These oppressive countries are angry with us ... a nation that on the other side of the globe has risen up and proved the shallowness of their power," Ahmadinejad said in a speech in the northern town of Ramsar, the semi-official news agency Mehr reported Wednesday.

"They are angry with our nation. But we tell them 'so be it and die from this anger'. Rest assured that if you do not respond to the divine call, you will die soon and vanish from the face of the earth," he said.

And, since his is not the first statement of that kind, I think BG has every reason to say what she did. It's common sense.

From CAIR - Council on American Islamic Relations

Ibrahim Hooper
CAIR Spokesperson
"I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future...But I'm not going to do anything violent to promote that. I'm going to do it through education."

====================================

Omar Ahmad
Co-Founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations
also: President and CEO of Silicon Expert Technologies.

"Those who stay in America should be open to society without melting, keeping Mosques open so anyone can come and learn about Islam. If you choose to live here, you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam ... Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."

I find that highly offensive also, but no more offensive than I find this statement by D. James Kennedy, the godfather of the Dominionists:

"Our job is to reclaim America for Christ, whatever the cost," Kennedy says. "As the vice regents of God, we are to exercise godly dominion and influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government, our literature and arts, our sports arenas, our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors -- in short, over every aspect and institution of human society."

Hmm..considering I've never heard of this guy, I'm gonna say his ability to actually implement a takeover of this country is limited.

Apparently, this concerted effort is starting to have an effect:

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Public transit officials have apologized to a woman wearing an Islamic facial veil who was turned away from a bus and Friday rescinded a rule banning people with face coverings.

The ban was aimed at riders wearing Halloween or ski masks and officials had not considered religious dress, Rapid bus system spokeswoman Jennifer Kalczuk said. The rule was issued earlier this year so that an on-board camera system could help identify riders if there is a disturbance.
