Circumstances :
Mr. Kang arrived in Canada from Korea and vanished while visiting a friend in St. John’s on November 1st, 1996 after only one week in the city. Kang was an experienced rock climber who had been climbing in the area of Kelly Island and Signal Hill in the days leading up to his disappearance. Kang was a paratrooper, martial arts expert and an experienced rock climber. His personal belongings were left at his apartment, Kang had been studying at Toronto Hansaw Language school and was a past member of the Korean Forces.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Nam Kwon Kang came from North Korea to Canada in 1995. A former member of the forces in his home country, he was studying at Toronto's Hansaw Language school.On November 1, 1996 he vanished while visiting a friend in St. John's. He had been in St. John's about a week prior to missing. During that week, Mr. Kang had been rock-climbing and sightseeing in the Signal Hill and Kelly's Island areas.
A five-day search of the area turned up nothing. All his personal belongings were left at the apartment where he was staying.
He was an experienced rock climber, paratrooper and martial arts expert.
