Knowin' you...they must have been CUTE cops. :-)

Two were women and one was a guy but he was across the street and I couldn't tell. Next time I get a chance (and won't cause an accident by stopping my car) I will ask! I'm not really that shy...

After a quick scan of that user guide (thanks SG),

Just a note that there are several 'Pearl' models in the Blackberry line and I just linked to the first model (the 8100). It's possible that the higher models of the Blackberry Pearl have additional security features.

J.A. Young is a male..

http://www.appriss.com/sitedocs/JXAnnualReport.pdf

J.A. Young, a detective with the Cary Police Department in North Carolina, was looking for a female wanted for two counts of forgery and uttering. By using JusticeXchange to place a watch on the woman, he was able to receive notification when she was taken to the Wake County Public Safety Center for an “off bond” by a bondsman from an unrelated criminal offense in which she failed to attend a scheduled court date. Young then contacted the Public Safety Center and made the appropriate arrangements to have the woman held. The subject was served with both warrants for felony forgery and uttering and is being prosecuted by the district attorney’s office.

Thanks, Garner. You're on a roll today! You've salvaged Sleuthy's love life.

Excellent work, Sleuth Garner!

Short and sweet: Sleuthy at times wears a small, VERY powerful magnet in a fanny pack, which helps relieve some minor back pain. Now...there is a funny story behind it, but we are already WAY off topic, and the powers that be are going to have my head if I go on. So, yes, back to the case. (snicker, snicker)

{ I don't always use a fanny pack when I use my small(er) magnets }

Anyway, I am so very curious about the password situation on this phone. I MUST know! I simply must! I'm ready to storm the offices of CPD and INSIST they tell us! Who's with me? Anyone? Bueller?

Good point - I double checked the other models listed there (even top of the line 8130), and didn't spot anything different. Certainly there could be some "undocumented feature", so anything is still possible. To me though, based on the user's guides we've looked at, it would seem unlikely that the phone could have been password protected on the 12th, and someone been able to use it to make calls that day without knowing the password itself.

  • #177
Yep. If specific features cannot be selectively password protected or locked and that phone was used on 7/12 then

- either it had a password and the password was known to someone other than Nancy OR
- the password was figured out OR
- the password was created and stored in the phone but the 'lock' feature was not on during that particular time period when calls were made on or after 7/12 OR
- the phone had no password and was given one on or after 7/12.

I think we're all bothered by this phone issue because of the very real possibility that Brad didn't know the password. How it was explained by one poster is that certain features can be locked, so one could still use the phone to make calls but have no access to lists, text messages, etc.

This link seems to confirm that all the "pearl" models have the same basic capabilities w.r.t. security. Side note, but possibly relevent: some of the pearls have built-in GPS.
