Why is it being assumed that her child being kidnapped or murdering her child would trigger a mania? In my experience when you make huge mistakes and screw up majorly, it triggers a depression.
We are messed up, make some poor choices while manic, we can be pretty impulsive and confusing. We have lots of issues. But we do love people.. we have a conscience, we feel guilt, shame and sadness... We have souls! Once our mania's pass we are our true selves again and often many of us cannot stand to even look at ourselves because of what we have done while manic. For MANY people suffering with Bipolar disorder, something this horrible could get to the extent that the person could very likely become suicidal.
I posted the same thing farther back. I backed off a little bit, because I agree that it does depend what cycle you're in to begin with, but IMO, I agree 100% with your post.
