I agree as someone that lives in a border state. It’s not quite what is reported in the media the majority of our crime is committed by locals. The cartel related crime that we do have is usually related to traffic stops that turn into drug busts…these still aren’t very frequent. IMO

Mexico doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Why risk trying to smuggle someone over the border if you aren't going to be super outward, direct, and demanding about a ransom? Taking her over the border for any other reason would seem totally illogical and carry way too much of a risk getting spotted trying to transport a kidnapping victim or a dead body(if she was unfortunately already killed) that route.

We have “dark sky” here( CA), but it does not seems as dark as NGs neighborhood, maybe not as strict.
In my area, I think people who already had lighting in place, could leave it, still use. new construction ( after the ordinance started) had to specify downlighting only.

I know a neighboring house, for Sale for 2 years, they constantly leave the lights on, very bright, no consequences.

I don’t think they issue tickets here for too much light, it’s up to each individual to do the right thing to try to maintain a dark sky.

I think part of the reason for the light ordinances in NGs area is due to a few nearby observatories. I don't think we have anything that strict in CA, even near observatories. The night sky is amazing if you can see it. I remember seeing so many shooting stars and stars in general where I grew up, but pollution of all types has changed that drastically.

Not for us to decide, and the reason they don't have lights all over is they confuse wildlife, especially birds. Very sad, but in somewhat isolated, overall calm areas, crime will eventually rear its ugly head. Certainly, all this attention will bring all kinds to the neighborhood. Hoping for the best outcome for all, especially the family.

There’ve been a few examples of female journalists and presenters being targeted in various ways here in the UK. I suspect it’s an underreported phenomenon, too.

A fairly recent example: Emily Maitlis, neither a singer nor a star, but a journalist and TV presenter:

She has been successful here for many years but is probably best known now for her interview of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. There’s also this case involving another TV presenter here.

In both these examples, the presenter herself was the direct target, not a relative.

Re: NG, I think one possibility is that someone is trying to hurt or punish SG as much as possible. But it’s certainly not the only possibility.

Anyway I thought I'd caught something so I framed it down as in 0.5 of a second shots. The thing about a federal search warrant is that they aren't very easy to obtain. Sworn LEO affidavits and/or unverified accusations/hunches/tips/theories aren't enough to obtain one. If there isn't a compelling reason that also indicates a strong likelihood of a search producing evidence related to a crime, then it isn't likely to be signed off on. Likewise, it has to be specific and not too broad in scope.
