My parents had at home health care- they paid into it 70K and my mother used it 1 day for my father and 3 months for herself. They bought the policy at my urging. It only covered you for a 3 year period then there was a waiting period to use it again. My mother was in good shape and thought as long as she can take care of my father she wasn’t going to use it. It was a lot of work as he was wheelchair bound the last 2 years and also incontinent. She was exhausted but stubborn. After he died she was fine for years. The insurance company got 70K from them . They were in their late 60;s when they bought into it. 30 years ago.

I am not a fan of LTC insurance. They never want to pay for anything. Plus there is an exclusionary period, usually 60 or 90 days the client is out of pocket.

By all accounts Nancy was ambulatory enough to stay at home alone.

Yes I believe he was a fighter pilot not too much else about him but it seems like they're all great human beings. Someone had reported above that the son-in-law was the last to see her. not sure if it's true as no link was provided.

This is starting to narrow the possibilities of what happened. They are saying its unlikely to be related to Savannah, now they are saying its unlikely to be a home invasion/robbery gone wrong.

It isn't leaving many options for what happened

Still leaves in the mix a dispute, vendetta, vengeance, stranger not motivated by financial gain, her beliefs

Agree. I think they went thinking she had fallen due to her mobility issues, or had a heart attack or stroke or similar. I think they were expecting to find her, and they probably didn't look the way an experienced law enforcement officer would.

I wonder if she had one of those panic buttons - you know, "I've fallen, and I can't get up." It seems like it would have been a smart choice for a woman living alone with mobility issues.

This is really scary, considering the area, and how many elderly single wealthy women live in the area.

When I lived in Miami, there were a lot of home invasions, and they tied them all to having had a specific business doing maintenance. Unfortunately, there were never any arrests made.

When Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped, I remember an article where the FBI had listed how many people had access to the Smarts home, it was staggering, with friends, relatives, household workers (one of which, was her kidnapper, Brian David Mitchell, who Mrs. Smart met on a street corner and offered him a job at her home!)

We are extremely careful now with who comes to our home. Making sure to use licensed businesses, or recommendations from friends.

Ambulatory means many different things. In her case, it sounds like she couldn’t walk far without assistance. I haven’t heard them make a distinction on how much she could walk with a cane or a walker. She’s not out hiking the hills in her backyard, but it sounds like she could probably do normal day to day activities. I bet she could even meander around a store fairly easily. Walking with a walker or cane does not disqualify you from driving either. She doesn’t sound like she was mostly bedridden and it doesn’t seem like she required long-term specialized care.

I agree. I now think that “50 yards” comment was said to indicate that this isn’t someone who would go off on a night hike out into the desert. Obviously “50 yards” or 50 feet or whatever was said is just an estimate, to explain she didn’t just walk off so far she can’t be found.

I haven't followed very many kidnappings. However, I'd think that all of this communication (interviews, posts on social media) would be designed to get the suspect to act in a certain way.

To me, that does point towards investigators thinking that she's alive. No real reason to cajole a kidnapper if they've already murdered their victim, IMO.

A couple questions, then -

If the public insistence that they don't have a suspect is designed to keep the kidnapper calm (avoiding panic and pressure that could lead to a murder), what's the next step? Do they offer the kidnapper a way to return NG? Wouldn't the kidnapper be caught then too? Is the appeal to the kidnapper just that they'll be caught either way and it's better to be caught as a kidnapper than a murderer?

Does that ever work? I would think it requires a level of rational thought that most violent criminals wouldn't have. They're already pretty deep into this at this point, IMO.

Alternatively, do you think the cops are just buying time to find NG themselves?

What an awful situation for NG and her family. Hoping for a best case resolution.

IMO Oftentimes LE is is also hoping to reach a family member, friend or loved one of the kidnapper. Someone who has witnessed suspicious behavior but is reluctant to go to LE with their suspicions. Either because they have no proof, they can't believe the person is capable of the kidnapping or they could also be involved in some way.

Thats why when I read that the daughter had dinner with her and dropped her off- and then read that the husband of the daughter was the last to see her….and supposedly “checked in on her”..(what does that mean-when??)
Of course that was from that website and how would they be reporting this unless it was leaked and MSM isn't reporting it yet.

Her daughter, Annie, may have thought she was out with a friend and was trying to figure out who. But seeing her phone and wallet caused concern. Her yard looks pretty big, maybe she wanted to go look there to see if she had fallen and as hurt? I keep asking myself why did they take her? Even carrying her, opening the car door and setting her inside, she could have yelled and kicked, if cameras were on, they would have this information. Why did they wait until the middle of the night and not soon after she arrived home? Not knowing if they were out to dinner on Saturday night, maybe someone from the restaurant followed them to her house and returned later? Forced entry is concerning, they were determined to get inside and get what they wanted. So many questions. IMO

So given Nancy by all accounts seems like a lovely lady, if there was a deep grievance it is likely people knew about it or suspected it.

New info on blood found at the scene and Nancy Guthrie's Pacemaker, from a law enforcement source

The Pacemaker last synced with her Apple devices around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to the source.Her Apple watch was still on the charger. Phone left at home

As for the blood, according to the source, a light trail was seen outside. It was described as a "drip" — more like a bloody nose than substantial bleeding. The trail ended where the walkway from her door meets the driveway.

One more thing -- I'm told that the cancellation of the search and rescue does NOT mean authorities think she's deceased

Thinking out loud...

When a body is taken, common motives (at a high level) include:

1. Delay discovery / buy time (to flee, establish an alibi, or avoid an immediate manhunt).
2. Prevent identification of the offender (e.g., the victim knew them or could tie them to the crime).
3. Control the narrative (staging it as a missing person instead of a murder).
4. Secondary-location crime (the main event wasn’t the burglary—it was the abduction/assault, and the house was just the first scene).
5. Panic/irrational decision-making after violence (offenders sometimes do illogical things under adrenaline and fear).

To me this suggests something more targeted than opportunistic theft, such as:

• the victim may have recognized the offender
• the offender may have had a prior connection to the home/victim
• or the intent may have been abduction from the start.

I’d add one other motive is to try and hide what you did to the victim IE sexual assault (like the Dee Martin case) the longer the body isn’t found for the harder it is to be able to prove sexual assault.

I do worry that this will be the case here - LE must have something to suggest a time frame of around 1am-4am - that is a pretty long time frame just for a simple abduction
