AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

This bothered me as well- so law enforcement isn’t working with the family regarding the letter?
I think the FBI set up the tripod for the camera. So they certainly are working with them.

My question is how are these ransom bandits supposed to contact with proof of life?? Can't keep emailing tmz, can they??

I’m unable to view the family’s plea since I am not on Instagram. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch it when the 10:00 News is on.

In the interim, reading that the brother did not speak and that the sister apparently seemed unpolished, IMO that means nothing.

This is a dreadful situation that the family is enduring. Yes, Savannah is accustomed to discussing news and to speak on television. But she has not had to discuss her mother being missing before.

IMO, however Nancy’s children want to speak is how they want to speak. Or to stay silent.

The brother is a highly trained fighter jet pilot. When Savannah took a flight with him, he was a very polished speaker because he was in his element. If he chooses not to speak now, that is fine with me.

Maybe he can’t bring himself to utter the words. Maybe he’s wary that he may in anger say something that would further endanger their mother.

Unless we hear from LE that a family member is a suspect, I believe that they are in an unimaginable crisis and I won’t judge anything they say or do.

Where are you, Nancy Guthrie??

I'm not sure if "news nation" is a allowable source here so I'm not going to bring it here but check it out.
News Nation is allowed swanniee.

LE has established she went missing around 2am. Perhaps her regular Sunday routine is not of importance except her church friends noticed she was absent. But the 2am time seems rather firm.

jmo
Just interesting family was notified right away that she was absent from beginning of church- 11:

Honestly

I might be the only one here who never watched Today and have no clue who Savannah Guthrie is, so to me, it is not the case about “her mother”

It is an incredibly vile story of abducting an old, frail woman and potentially, hurting her. I always thought that elderly people would be the group I’d work best with, I always felt the need to “protect” them.

So I hope that whoever harmed this physically ailing but mentally, OK and seemingly nice, woman, is a horribly mean person. I hope they’ll find the cad.

My previous post was meant to be in reply to Avalonisland just to be clear. My thoughts are along the same lines as you.

Yes, that was the point I was originally trying to make, although I didn't express it well. Aren't ransom demands usually sent to the family or to LE, rather than to media outlets? Seems like the perps did not contact the family directly, yet they are the ones who are supposed to pay. Maybe that is not unusual but it seems unusual to me. This is why I'm skeptical of the ransom notes. JMO.

Anyone know more details on the Ransom note?

there's limited info.

TMZ received one and they reported that the letter identified something nancy was not wearing when she was abducted, as well as items in the home that were damaged.

KGUN received one and they reported that the letter requested millions in bitcoin to be deposited into a wallet (confirmed to be a real bitcoin wallet) and that if they didn't receive the amount by thursday (tomorrow), she'd be killed on monday (next week).

I noticed a lot of religiosity in the video, I hope this doesn't sound too cynical but could they think someone from the church might be involved? mOO

The following all pure speculation so JMO, MOO, etc. --

I wonder if perhaps LE received an initial random demand shortly after the abduction but dismissed it as likely illegitimate (as kidnap for ransom is extremely rare in the US and thus highly unlikely) and thus did not disclose it to the family.

Perhaps after not getting a response to the initial demand, the person making the demands got impatient and sent an 'updated' ransom demand to the media which contained specific details that could be verified by LE/the family. Sending it to the media would also increase the likelihood that the demand would garner attention and thus a response.

The fact that the family's statement came almost immediately after LE wrapped up another search at Nancy Guthrie's house today (even after it had previously been released to the family) seems to lend some support to this theory -- perhaps LE wanted to verify (or discredit) information included in the demands to the media before advising the family for or against releasing a statement.

Ok, I just had a random thought. The pacemaker stopped communicating with the watch because it was out of range. Could you hypothetically ride around with her watch and basically try to find the pacemaker? Like a metal detector of sorts. I wonder how close you would have to get. I know it still sends a signal, even after death.

It’s as plausible as anything else at this point

It hits especially close to us Tucsonans, who watched Savannah grow up here, and then go on to become so successful, always being the down-to-earth, caring person she is. So many prayers for this family and so many tears...

I would say, go straight to the source if you want money. TMZ? News outlets-but NO contacting of SG? Very strange

I was thinking this exact same thing earlier

Savannah wrote a book that is very religious, so I think this is just how they are and it's authentic.

Maybe they should walk around with her watch...

John Miller CNN: Taking these ransom letters seriously. They want to build empathy between captors and their mom. Want to make it a two way conversation, and not between news outlets.

Need to know "are you real?" "Are you who you say you are?"

"Need to take this one way conversation and turn it into a two-way conversation for this to move forward."

Would like to actually speak to her on the phone. Going to be a challenge because it's traceable.

Can you give controlled questions that only she could know "who was your dog in the 4th grade?" "What did you eat at your sister's house the night you were taken?"

Brian Stelter: Savannah and her siblings spent much of the afternoon with the FBI in preparation for this video.
After four days, I feel like they had to respond to the ransom letters whether they are taking them seriously or not. Not doing so is a regret I wouldn't wish on anyone.
