AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

  • #6,561
Maybe. My mother, now in memory care, crossed the border in October 2025 from Yuma AZ into Mexico on foot without having a passport or travel card. She went to have dental work done and they let her through!
WTF???
Did she need to show it when she returned?

I am squarely on the fence, but admit I'm starting to discard the ransom-letter theory. Why didn't the perp send the ransom note right away? When did the first news station receive it?

I worry about a possible soft kill taking her out to the desert and leaving her.

Especially if it was someone who knew her and as posted previously maybe some sort of a discussion or request got out of hand.

The visit in the night compelled by drugs or drink to force the discussion or request.
Followed by panic and regret driving a solution to rid of the now big problem; NG knows who barged in wanting to talk and eventually bashed her.

I also wouldn’t assess NG as being wealthy in a home which was probably bought for a very reasonable price back in the day and doesn’t seem ostentatious at all.
Or just because her daughter has wealth. I would expect her daughter’s wealth to be used more for trips, treats and boosts if needed for Mom to stay in her home not substantial money on hand.

A lot of older folks do keep bonds and the like in their homes from the days before the shift to electronic, paperless. Inherited ones filed away long ago, a paper preference to give as gifts, etc. that maybe well known to exist by those close or observed by someone snooping about in the household

All imo
I do not see an upset relative ripping off the ring cameras- esp if they were drunk or on drugs, IMO.

You beat me to my comment! I don’t think the cuts/bruises on her arm or even the amount of blood outside are really indicative of anything other than that she’s on blood thinners and bleeds easy.

About the amount of blood outside:

On blood thinners, bleeds easily and was "taken against her will" from her home which implies by force, the force probably causing her to bleed if she does so easily, and the blood is where there is also a newly missing door camera so that blood seems to be part of the crime scene to me.

all imo

no connection if you look at the circumstances of the Scottsdale incident. IMO
I was unclear if those who extorted the teens were caught? But I agree about circumstances not aligning.

May I ask why you feel so strongly it is a worker in her circle (as opposed to a family member or friend)?
Totally just curious 🙂 at this point I don’t know what to think so I almost feel like I’m at 50% for everybody lol😵‍💫

Moo
A family member or close friend could find much easier ways to obtain money from her, and maybe they have in the past. It merits an examination of who might have money problems. Nonetheless, my speculation is based on someone who is frequents the property and is aware of her circumstances and wealth. Someone who doesn’t have wealth and wants to hit the lottery.

Elderly are so vulnerable to financial predators. A cautionary tale to all. A good fiduciary is essential to elder years.

Forgive me this is probably a silly question but I keep wondering, how was a person/movement detected on the doorbell at 2:12am, after it was disconnected at 1:47am?
It was detected by another sensor in the house AFAIK

I have only seen one post mentioning the Scottsdale home invasion. Perhaps I’ve missed more. Thoughts on any connection, based on this article?
I posted about it mainly because I didn’t hear of the people that were extorting the teens being caught- and I want to know how:why they picked a target in Scottsdale. 9 hours away from teens. Makes me wonder if the extorters live in the area but met the teens who lived in CA. If the extorters live in the area, did they find someone else at same time? It’s weird.

I haven’t used signal but that’s supposedly where they met the teens. It’s an encrypted messaging app, but do people just meet there?

Possible re-post, fwiw..
Feb. 5, 2026
''Two California teens were arrested in an Arizona home invasion tied to an alleged $66 million cryptocurrency plot that happened the same day Nancy Guthrie was last seen before disappearing from her Tucson home about two hours away.

Authorities have not said if the two cases are connected in any way, but the cases do share some bizarre similarities.

The teens, who are not being identified by Fox News Digital because they are both under the age of 18, allegedly posed as delivery drivers to gain access to the Scottsdale home on Jan. 31, before forcing their way inside and duct-taping and assaulting two homeowners inside''.

Something is missing - definitely. Just don't see this as an abduction for $$$.
some one said this before- was there already a financial crime that NG knew about? Just tossing that out.

It's my understanding that the people extorting the teens have not been caught or identified yet.

IMO, the FBI is probably working hard to rule out a connection between these two events as part of assessing the validity of NG's ransom note.

not yet......from is seen. However there's no evidence completely of a home invasion similar to the scottsdale incident, or anything like that. Teens aren't as smart as they think they are necessarily with stuff like this, they are usually in over their heads and get themselves caught rather easily IMO

well, they were aerial surveying the neighborhood.
Good. They have sophisticated drones that can detect ground disturbance and chemical signals from remains.

What does an elderly woman have in her home that a thief would want? Cash?
How much cash do people keep at home these days?
The older generation tends to like to keep cash on hand at home just in case. Children find it all the time when cleaning out their parents houses in the strangest places (coffee can in the freezer, hole in the mattress, etc).

My opinions only:

What are the chances that Nancy Guthrie is still alive? <20%

What are the chances the one responsible was a healthcare person, gardener, maid, electrician, etc? 40%

What are the chances the one responsible was a family member? 60%

What are the chances the police and FBI will eventually solve this case? 80%

When do I think a person(s) will be arrested? Within the next 10 days.
I think <20% is wishful thinking unfortunately, but otherwise I completely agree.
I think the police are closer than they appear

Another thing on the dual deadlines for the ransom note. I think it can make more sense if you put yourself in the head of a person who truly wants this to be the one and only message they send, with no further communication (largely as a strategy to avoid being caught). In that mindset, I think it actually makes a decent amount of sense to think a little bit about the various ways things could play out, and trying to address them all in the one message you're going to send, so you don't have to come back and send another message later.

I'm not going to ascribe perfect competency or sanity to the person doing this, but I think there's a certain logic that is possibly happening.
I get what you are saying. Perhaps the kidnappers thought ok, we will send a ransom letter that is professional looking, well constructed, good grammar, address ahead most upcoming questions. Their thought, trying for credibility, the kidnappers will be perceived as “ honest enough” ( I know, 😣 sorry, crazy thought), to encourage Nancy’s family to believe if they deposit ransom, they will get Nancy back.

I know, farfetched to the extreme, kind of like “honor amongst criminals”.

Take a look at Annie’s breathing in the video.
Wow! She is breathing heavily. Not just that, but her blink rate is off the charts. It could all be explained by her nervousness and the fight to hold back tears. It's interesting, though.

It is reported that it was the Ring doorbell cam that was taken off the mount on the front door. All articles including the latest show that in their stories and the Sheriff said it was the same camera, agreeing it's confusing it went offline first (removed) then detected a person. She also had Nest cams.

From experience having Ring cams on two houses and my parents (as well as POE hardwired 4k cctv), Ring cameras can push a "person detected" for taller animals (deer), large motion (flags flapping in wind in the frame) etc. They can also be somewhat glitchy. The big thing here is there was no subscription to the cloud so no footage was recorded or could be remote viewed (by daughter, police monitoring etc.)

the really weird thing about this is, if he was not connected to the other ransom request, and money was put in the bitcoin wallet, it would not go to him so how crazy is he? wants 15 mins of fame and jail ASAP?
Haha, he tried to insert himself, failed! No extra $, and jail time for him.
Very amateur.
