In light of the Sheriff's statement about believing she will be found alive and talk of the FBI starting to put up billboards asking for information do you guys believe there may have been very recent contact with the alleged abductor/writer of the ransom note?
Personally I don’t think we will see billboards put up. I think the FBI and police know much more than they are saying.

If the ransom notes are fake, unrelated, and the abduction or possible murder was done by someone else, the ransom is definitely helping the actual abductors. Beginning to think she awoke to find someone in her home, confrontation, possible murder. Who?
Good hypothesis. If this is how it happened, I'd say it was a neighbor's son. If so, her body is nearby in that desert, close to her home. Even though they've searched and searched, it's difficult to find a body unless you actually know where it is. (Yikes. I sound as if I know all about these things.)

I just think there would have been DNA on more than her body if that happened IMO
Not necessarily, and we don’t know if that wasn’t the case.

For all we know they could have this guy’s DNA.

In one case I followed, the killer did take the bedding for that reason though.

Absolutely agree. Their priority is the investigation, not informing us.

They could have abducted her to SA her later so they wouldn't leave their DNA in the house. I hope that didn't happen.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Why does he think that and why does he have so many interviews?
He is acting more like a media spokesperson than a sheriff. Needs to stop doing interviews.

'Private security services and the NYPD police presence for “Today” have been increased, including in the vicinity of the morning show’s street-level studio across the street from 30 Rockefeller in Manhattan, according to reports. Officials conducting the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance have given no indication that Savannah Guthrie or anyone else at the “Today” show is being targeted.'

'Despite concerns that being separated from her medication could endanger her life, authorities continue to classify the case as a missing-person investigation.'
'Authorities have said there is no threat to the public.'
"If there's somebody out there who's kidnapping elderly people in the middle of the night, every night, we've not heard that. We don't believe that's the case,” Nanos said.
Authorities reported receiving at least three different ransom notes.'

I have only seen one post mentioning the Scottsdale home invasion. Perhaps I’ve missed more. Thoughts on any connection, based on this article?
I don't really think of it about honesty or believability. Just "we have one shot to send this without too much risk of getting caught, so we have to make sure we say everything that we need to say right now" (because each additional message dramatically increases the risk that they'll slip up). And also "they have everything to lose and we have nothing to lose [not really true, of course] so it's on them if they choose to demand stuff back. We're not going to answer." I don't think it's a big stretch to imagine a perp thinking that they can only risk sending one message, and if we believe that, I think the rest makes some degree of sense.
Yes, agreed.

Nanos stated in interview with Banfield, NG did not herself walk out of the house. "She did not leave the house on foot."
Ok thanks! I am so behind, so likely missing key info. Thanks for this! :)

Forgive me but I cannot find where the "newest" timeline was posted, the one with the someone from the church calling the family at 11:00 am. This was not in the official timeline released yesterday during the press conference. Does anyone have this link, because this was notably missing from the press conference completely yesterday?

Someone upthread said they’ve already seen them in the wild. If I find the post, I’ll update here.

A family member or close friend could find much easier ways to obtain money from her, and maybe they have in the past. It merits an examination of who might have money problems. Nonetheless, my speculation is based on someone who is frequents the property and is aware of her circumstances and wealth. Someone who doesn’t have wealth and wants to hit the lottery.

Elderly are so vulnerable to financial predators. A cautionary tale to all. A good fiduciary is essential to elder years.

Amateur opinion and speculation only

Here's a quote from the FBI Special Agent in Charge yesterday at the press conference:

"We are actively reviewing and analyzing information from all digital sources, which includes banks, social media companies, phone companies, and any other organizations........"

I hope the FBI has a team of forensic accountants digging through all the financial records with a fine-toothed comb.

Elderly individuals are often taken advantage of monetarily, e.g., "unofficial" loans that don't get paid back, credit/debit card fraud, grift, mismanagement of funds, etc.

Not saying that's happened here, but I assume FBI is looking into that possibility.

Sometimes the motive for a crime is to try to conceal another crime.

Generally not a winning strategy.

JMO.

I am so jaded, do we really have kidnappers and ransom in these days and times? Would they keep her somewhere this long? It doesn't look good for Nancy :(

The only time I can think of a kidnap victim being released/escaped was Elizabeth Smart and there was the other young woman can't remember her name (Jaycee??). I know there's other survivors of abduction out there that aren't so high profile but I have a feeling there is no kidnap situation here.

I hope I am wrong and a ransom is met and she's released but it seems so far fetched MOO

Abby Hernandez is another. 284 days later she was released.

But like you, I don't think that's what this case is.

Nanos stated in interview with Banfield, NG did not herself walk out of the house. "She did not leave the house on foot."
Also to add, the person would have to be a fairly strong person if only one person. Even if they knocked her out let's say or even if half alert, dead weight is heavy to carry.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that after looking at the blood on the porch. It looks like she exited the house, perhaps on foot, but didn't leave the property on foot (IMO). It just looks to me that she likely got punched in the face while standing on the porch. She likely hit the ground at that point, and likely grabbed at those vines left behind which ripped them off from where they were growing. At that point I'm thinking she was carried off. Either conscience or unconscious.

I'm fairly new here, still trying to figure things out, and I tend to be a strict rule-follower--on one of my first (of few) posts, I was very gently chastised by a moderator for quoting a non-acceptable source, and was directed to the website rules.
Am I correct in thinking that insulting a Websleuths member--and in this case, a Websleuths Guardian--goes against Rule #1?
Maybe it's just "an opinion" and is therefore acceptable. My mom taught me that "if I do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all." My mom was pretty cool.
Non-acceptable sources are not allowed and you were directed to read the rules. That's not and insult, it's showing you how to abide by the rules that apply to all of us. Mose of us have been "called out" and even been in time-out a few times. Forget it and move on : )
Just to clarify, the poster was not saying that they were insulted by being "very gently chastised." They were asking about another post they were responding to, which said that Brian Entin is not very smart. Another poster pointed out that Entin is a reporter, not a fellow Websleuth poster.
