AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

So PCSO literally just said they are investigating new leads. FBI isn’t saying there are new leads? Color me confused?
We still have not authenticated the ransom email angle. Period. Many ex LE have expressed their doubt about it. Whether the investigation has excluded it and are moving forward is now a possibility. If it was a scam or misdirection it certainly took a lot of media focus and resources so it would be a successful one.

John Miller, CNN:

"We're in the dark, but on details like that we probably should be."

Says we don't know contents of second letter, and if it had another Bitcoin address. Also says we don't know if they communicated some other way."

"No such thing as a real deadline for someone interested in a $6 million ransom." Basically suggests that most kidnappers would rather wait, as opposed to getting nothing, as well as a murder charge in addition to that.

Wouldn't the family be aware if they had "communicated another way" ? Or at the least if they had communicated another way, wouldn't the receiver of that communication immediately inform the FBI?

Residences, plural. Is this an indication to family being involved after all..? Just wondering 🤔
In my eyes, yes, I think the family is involved. It's terrible to think that way, but it is beginning to be the only thing that makes sense.

I thought it was the family from the get-go. 100%. I still think they are involved. The ransom notes are red herrings, IMO. An accidental family-caused death, not thinking the cover of ransoms/notes would take on a life of their own. MOO.

Quoting myself. To clarify:

Not quite an “accident” where you can go to the ER with an innocent explanation for the death, but a deliberate-type gun shot, or deliberate attack murder of some type. That needs covered up.

And in this case, the FBI volunteered their services. It’s almost standard business to have the FBI involved in a murder case. Their capabilities far exceed most local LE. IMO
Its standard for FBI involved in a murder case? In my experience that's simply not true. The kidnapping case, yes - but murder? No.

And Harvey Levin says he’s checking constantly. Bitcoin account is visible and still at $0. He did make a valid point, imo, why would SG make an appeal to public for help if she had already paid? Might she be asking for signs of her mom after or before being released? (My speculation on that point.)
Agree. Found it interesting that SG made an appeal to the public for help. Even if SG paid, she knows that doesn't guarantee anything and she might be asking for signs of her mom after or before being released. Her focus is getting whatever help she can get in order to bring her mother home. MO

Of course. The FBI would know immediately.

Absolutely. 100% Lie Detectors should have been administered to the family right-off-the-bat. Eliminate them first. Then branch out from there. Unless someone fails.
And searched the homes then. Not when we’re entering week two. This is incompetence.

I'd say 75% of the countless murder cases I've followed on here have involved the FBI in some capacity.

So if the authorities don't know, then there was no communication.
Yup. This came prior to the FBI's statement about lack of communication.

Is JayTc53 classed as credible on here?

Sad that the ransom / kidnapping communications might have delayed public appeals and information in the meantime.

Latest on Nancy Guthrie investigation here.

FBI says there has been no continued communication with suspected kidnappers.
What happens now?
Deep dive:

I’m guessing there is a need for continued conversation because the last message said, sorry, deals off, she passed away. Otherwise, it seems the communication would come after payment?

There are so many gated communities in Tucson--with and without guardhouses--and with homes that are very, very expensive. Many older women living on their own in these homes that they once shared with their husbands. From the beginning of this case, I've been wondering "Why NG?".

Possibly she was targeted because of SG's wealth and how easy it is to get into NG's neighborhood without detection because of the distance between homes and the distance the homes are from the road.

JMO
My aunt is 85ish and lives about a mile and a half from NG’s home (not in the same neighborhood though). She is widowed and does live alone, and this has scared her to death. The landscape and layout of that area doesn’t have the “typical” neighborhood feel with sidewalks and clear lot lines. I love it because it is so different, but it does seem like neighbors would have a harder time keeping an eye on each other, literally.

Can someone give me a TLDR from the last 2 days please?

I fear this case has been botched from the get go.

The State Police should have been brought in IMMEDIATELY to help with this case. This tiny agency is not equipped.

Both Nancy’s AND Annie’s properties should have been sealed off as crime scenes. NO MATTER WHAT. Those were the last supposed places Nancy was seen alive. All vehicles should have been seized.

Then ALL the family members should have been dragged down to the police station and DRILLED. Questioned. Proved their timeline by providing corroborating evidence. Taken polygraphs, etc.

All electronic devices should have been seized.

All vehicles should have been seized.

And should have been done for purposes of elimination. Eliminate the family first. Then work out.

This is LE 101

These “statements” about driving Nancy home, at what time, by whom, and what exactly happened at the drop off don’t make any sense. Was it just the SIL? Was it Annie & the SIL? How does an 85yo woman with SERIOUS physical limitations get into her garage in 2 minutes? There should be history on that remote opener to show the average time it takes her. 2 minutes just seems way too short.

Crime scene experts should have gone over BOTH properties with a fine toothed comb. As well as all vehicles. These were places that Nancy was confirmed to be.

That first critical 48hr window has been lost here because of sloppy police work. And the delay of reporting Nancy’s disappearance.

We are now into the 2nd week and they are just now checking Annie’s house with Luminol. After the family has continued living there? And possibly doing a clean up??

They just discovered there was a camera on the roof of Nancy’s house. What else did they miss?

We have a supposed ransom demand that has not been confirmed legitimate.

My questions are these:

1. Why haven’t the family members been eliminated as suspects?

2. Why can’t they confirm the legitimacy of this ransom demand?

3. Why do they keep going back and doing basic things that should have been done on day 1 or day 2?

4. And WHY would the Sheriff go to a basketball game with a case like this going on so early in an investigation? Normally a case is worked by all involved without sleep for days. They’re not going to events. This is a very bad look.

This is heading for a catastrophic conclusion. In more ways than one.
All great points. ^^^

Nothing was done that should have been done, until it was far too late.

There are many questions that seem to keep being asked and not answered :
  • What happened at that dinner and game night ?
  • Who was there outside of family ?
  • Who drove Nancy home ?
  • Or did they actually drive her home at all ?
  • Did Nancy leave AG's house at all, because there's no proof she walked into her house that night.
All we have is people's words for this, which can be fallible.
Omo.
