AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

If the ransom is a hoax and actually nothing to do with the crime, it could be a sexual motive and the body removed to hide evidence. I really hope not though.
I agree, sadly. Such a motive was nowhere close to what I originally thought, or what many of us were discussing here, until now with the removal of a major financial motive (at least to our knowledge).

It's such a sad and awful thing that this would even have to be considered.

Finally... I feel like this information should have been released within 48 hours of her going missing. JMO
My guess would be they either didn't have this photo or didn't have sufficient confidence that this is who they are really looking for. Now they either have that confidence or they are getting more desperate. Either way I very much hope that this is a break that will lead to Nancy.

As one of the people obsessed with the “churchgoer call”, I’m observing the latest explanation with a grain of salt. It answers questions but introduces others (for me, at least), which I won’t get into unless others care to discuss.

Why was all this hidden?
Because LE is trying to solve a case, not entertain us. It wasn't relevant.

I hope this is ok....I know Fox News is not an approved source...but what I found interesting was this and thought it was important enough for ALL of us to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

Ways to keep your loved ones safe

1) Use connected cameras

2) Wear an emergency pendant or medical alert device

3) Enable device sharing and safety feature

4) Create simple check-in routines

5) Use devices with passive safety monitoring

6) Know emergency contacts and escalation steps

The articles goes into more depth on each point and I believe it originated by Cyberguy.com

Re: the robbery/home invasion gone wrong theory, why wouldn't they just do the break in while she was out of the home for 4+ hours prior? It would have been dark. Just a thought.

It is interesting that NG watches a live stream from her daughter's NYC church instead of one in Tucson area. It seems like SG is very much the golden child. I was also watching some clips on SG's social media and she made Jenna Bush the godmother of her first child, which I thought was notable that it wasn't her sister. It may be that her sister does not share the same religious beliefs. On the other hand, SG called her sister her "spiritual life partner" in a clip of the her 2018 book that someone posted here.

I'm sure the family dynamics are interesting. Just like in all families I'm sure in addition to love, there are tensions and resentments and jealousies. It seems like AG probably did most of the heavy lifting with NG and, if it is anything like my experience as a caretaker (also to an mid 80s family member who is basically "independent"), the faraway siblings have no idea how much work it can be-- and I don't mean physically. It would be hard to see them traveling the world, having summer houses and NYC townhouses, and seemingly having no money worries while I stayed in my hometown.
I agree with all of this.
Out of state siblings have no idea how much planning and work it can be supporting someone in their 80s with limited mobility and a chronic condition.

I had a sibling come to town to visit my father recently and things that I would normally help support, I informed my father that his other child would help him that week. My father said, oh no don't waste their time on that when they just came to visit. I was like are you kidding me? LOL

Scroll down for a video. Is this the suspect? I'm so confused. I can't post the video. Maybe someone else can.

Some clarity!! Thank you!!!!

Doesn't really reveal they have DNA from an unknown source inside the home. Just reveals that NG's hired associates are submitting DNA samples. And likely voluntarily in case they do find unknown DNA in the home and want to distinguish it from known DNA (so that they can rule out or scrutinize it more).

JMO.
They can also interview them, observe their behavior and find out if they my have inadvertently alerted sketchy people to Nancy being alone at night.
