I truly hope that Sheriff Nanos’ despairing talk is just some kind of ploy.

In my experience it is unheard of for an LE officer in charge to publicly voice his exhaustion and his doubts about finding a missing victim.

If it’s to blindside the criminals then maybe, but IMO it would have to be run by the Guthries first, lest they lose all confidence in Tucson LE.

I have a brother-in-law who’s an NYPD captain, and a cousin who is a Federal detective. I cannot imagine either of them EVER telling the public that they’re so tired and so pessimistic, even if they are.

Particularly in a case that has drawn endless publicity. You don’t show your cards, you don’t make it about you, you don’t cause the family to become hopeless.

I sadly do believe at this point that NG has likely not survived, and his “could take years” comment referenced finding her body. But don’t say that out loud!

Again hoping this is just some wily police tactic and not a “cri de coeur” of futility.

something that I find odd is it seems few of the homes I have seen on maps in the area have fences or gates, don't coyotes and other wild animals live in the area?
They do share the land with coyotes, javelinas, rattlesnakes and desert scorpions. Too bad the abductor/attacker didn't get attacked by a coyote or step on a rattlesnake.

A POI released, while disappointing for the investigation, may not be the last we see of them.

If they're guilty then maybe they'll now feel the pressure of now needing to cover their tracks and make a mistake.

Just my opinion. Trying to be positive while we wait to see what happens next.

Maybe the perp was stalking SG for sometime. He may even have had a job he purposely took to get inside NG's house. Hell, he could have even worked for a security company. Perp wanted to know everything about SG.. He was focused on everything SG, NBC, Instagram, every TV appearance. imo. Might have even installed cameras that he then knew how to evade and dismantle.. He forgot about the Nest or that it was no longer operable. IMO, the perp was not stupid. He has confounded the authorities and captured his prey. NOW, he has not received the ransom nor sufficient begging from SG and he is boxed in. IMO, he never really wanted the ransom. He is taunting SG.. In his mind, she has spurned him. JMO
I'm sorry to say I think it was the documentary done in Nov 2025 that triggered this. It was a doc on SG's life in Tucson, and her mother was included in that.

Amateur opinion and speculation only

BBM. Agree 100%. There have been some very sloppy maneuvers by the Perps. It won't be long before we see them in cuffs.

It's likely he needs some media training. But I don't doubt his fatigue and despair are genuine.

How about asking people in Tucson to check their yards, storage sheds, parks, etc. This would be a start.
When the Boston Bomber was loose on foot after the shootout, police issued that kind of request in a specific neighbourhood.

But there is no reason to suspect this crime involved hiding NG on someone else's property. It's just not that kind of crime.

Policing doesn't involve the public unless absolutely necessary. Some people want to be involved, but many, many people feel these cases have nothing to do with them and they just carry on with their lives

I think it's possible she's in Mexico.
IMO, No. No reason for her to be there. Not every crime that happens in AZ means that there's going to be border crossing.

I have seen quite a few posts through this thread commenting on Nancy’s personality - she was sharp as a tack, she is a feisty lady, nobody’s fool type comments and what a wonderful, lovely person she is. We don’t actually know what she is like as a person, I just find it a bit odd a whole personality is being made up.
this is what has been printed in the media. That's all we have to go on.

Something I was trying to post earlier at when the thread was closed is below. It was more relevant to the discussion occurring then than now, but I think it’s still worth keeping in mind.

With regard to the intensity of the local and federal response last night - I would not discount the pressure that may be present because of the involvement of the current administration. To begin there was the Truth Social post by the POTUS, which spoke of “deploying all resources” in this investigation; so it seems possible that many of the costs associated with an operation like we saw last night could be at the federal government’s expense. But beyond that, the POTUS has continued to speak out about this case and comment on progress in it. IMO, things happening behind the scenes (for example, between the POTUS and the FBI Director, and then from the FBI Director to FBI staff) could very well be putting tremendous pressure on involved FBI staff all the way down the line, including (and maybe especially) any decision makers along the way.

All MOO, but I have little doubt that it is having an impact on the way we are seeing this investigation play out.
unfortunately, IMO it's possible he is speaking out of turn too, because IMO I've seen quite a few things he has spoken about that don't like up with things that actually happen. IMO I would take what is said with a grain of salt.

I wonder if it will all come down to who's willing to snitch? Every group always has a weak link.

Agree 100%. Sheriff N's comments weren't particularly helpful. That said, he's human. I'm sure he's feeling the pressure of this highly publicized case. I noticed even DJT went easy on him when someone asked if the Sheriff was being an obstructionist.
I'm sure he never thought he'd find himself in a situation like this. Prayers to all LE working on this case for sharpness of mind, and strength of spirit.

I agree with Benjamin. I hold Lois in the very highest regard, along with Karen Taylor and of course our own amazing Carl K! All three are amazing.

My opinion of course. : )
Her story and record are amazing! We should all be sharing her sketch far and wide.

Agree that it’s genuine, but if you’re a professional you voice this back at the police station with your peers. You don’t project weakness or failure to the public.

Again, unless it’s some crafty technique that will lure in the criminals, and I’ll happily apologize.

At least one local station received the note on Monday, 3 February, the day after NG went missing.

“The note, which the station received Monday and agreed not to report on […]”

I know it was a typo :)

Monday, February 2.

It was the next day.

That’s just weird. Who thinks of getting their pool cleaned in the midst of a horrific crime at the location of the crime scene? I’m thinking something else was going on with this.
Chemical maintenance and brushing one's pool are essential especially in a changing environment like AZ right now. I'm in TX and we just had a rain storm. My pool will need attention in the next few days. The pool at NG's house is going on 3 weeks come Monday. Not weird to have weekly maintenance. IMO. JMO

Yep. Money talks, and so does a lesser sentence in lieu of information. It will come down to that, and soon.

I agree, someone’s got to have guilt IMO. Especially with how high profile this case is and being reminded of it in the media every single day

I imagine the children do not want their mom to come home to an algae filled pool full of bugs. They're caring for her haven in her absence. IMO
