My thoughts. someone wanted the will changed. May have initially tried in an amicable way earlier. Something went wrong. Lots of staging afterwards. Ransom not related, just opportunistic.

If it was discussed, it is not a ‘fact’. I would imagine that if the FBI had altered the images they would have said so when releasing them.

To be clear, I did not state it as fact, and I did not say the FBI had altered the image.
I can't see anywhere that the Sheriff or FBI has shown that particular image at all.
I'll say it again. MY understanding is that whoever released that particular image, altered it.

No one has reported that the house was ransacked, or that anything was taken out of it except the homeowner. jmo
do we know if anyone who was familiar with the home before the "incident" has been in the home to check for missing items?

I don’t understand the fascination 120 seconds for the garage.

Do you have a garage? Time it. It takes ~15 seconds for a standard residential garage door to open. That gives NG a minute and 45 seconds to walk into the garage and hit the button to close it.

A minute and 45 seconds to walk a couple car lengths into the garage is an eternity. It would take a fully able person 5 seconds. There’s no reason to think NG couldn’t shuffle into the garage within the reported time. There’s nothing “cold” or suspicious about it. MOO
Another post that should reappear on every page :-)

Sheriff Nanos:

<snipped & BBM>

“I’m not used to everyone hanging on to my every word and then holding me accountable for what I say,”

WTAH???? Dude you're THE SHERIFF, who else's words should we be hanging on and who else should we be holding accountable??

Nancy Guthrie kidnapping investigation draws scrutiny as case drags on

This Sheriff bumbled the investigation from the start IMO, and I am enormously pro LE. I believe he initially thought she had just wandered off and would be shortly found. He released the crime scene way too early, and didn't contact the FBI for 2 days. He's not inexperienced, having been in law enforcement for many years.

He should have known better and is now being defensive at the expense of Nancy Guthrie. Any DNA processing should have been sent to FBI's HQ in Quantico, VA for a faster turnaround instead of sending it to his 'usual lab' in FL. His embarrassment and ego has lead to wasted precious time.

I believe this was an unprofessional home invasion/kidnapping for ransom that turned horribly wrong when something happened to Nancy and they could not produce POL. It makes me sad to think this is what she endured during her last hours on earth, alone and scared. I hope they find these idiots and give them the ultimate punishment. AZ has the DP:

Crimes That Qualify as Capital Offenses

The death penalty is reserved exclusively for the crime of Aggravated First Degree Murder. Simple First Degree Murder is not sufficient to qualify an offender for a capital sentence. A defendant must be convicted of First Degree Murder, and the prosecution must prove the existence of at least one statutorily enumerated aggravating factor.

The presence of an aggravating circumstance elevates the crime to a capital offense, making the defendant eligible for the death penalty. These factors include committing the murder for pecuniary gain, the victim being a peace officer, or the crime being committed in an especially heinous, cruel, or depraved manner. Without the jury’s unanimous finding of at least one of these factors, the maximum sentence available is life imprisonment.

I still hold out hope for Nancy to be returned safely, but it's hard to see how that is possible at this late stage. :(

I think this is possible and explains his behavior on the porch.

Why might he think it was already disabled? What might explain that thought process?
Maybe he/they thought cutting phone (WiFi) lines would have disabled them? It's hard to guess because it doesn't appear to be a criminal mastermind(s) at work here.

Another major development Saturday: investigators say they're now leaning away from any relatives of the Guthrie family as suspects but not officially ruling anyone out until the case is solved.

Leininger's message to Tucson residents: keep an open mind, and report anything that appeared out of the ordinary in recent weeks.

“You would be surprised how many times people have information but they don’t think it's important enough to report it and it runs out to be incredibly important to solving the case,” Leininger said.

A sheriff's deputy was stationed in the driveway of Guthrie's home Saturday, and the Tucson community continues to show support for the Guthrie family, many buying yellow flowers for Nancy and putting their messages and prayers on a banner outside her house.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Saturday that a man briefly detained in the Nancy Guthrie case Friday “was our person of interest.”

Nanos described the man in an interview with Fox News as cooperative — but did not elaborate on what he meant by the “person of interest” designation or whether the individual was believed to have any direct connection to Guthrie’s disappearance.

The man was later released. He is believed to own a gray Range Rover that authorities searched and towed as part of the investigation.

Do you have a link regarding which investigators said the above? I don’t believe I remember reading this anywhere.

Yes, I read the article and most of the quotes were from a former detective from San Jose. However, there is no link to which investigators indicated the following:
investigators say they're now leaning away from any relatives of the Guthrie family as suspects”
Listen to the video in the article she linked about 1.20 in.
Haven't got caught up yet just wanted to reshare the alert that LE gave neighbors last week where they mention specific times and dates to check for any footage they may have.

Sidenote: January 11th is national human trafficking awareness day. Seniors are sometimes trafficked for fraud.
After that came out, Pima County Sheriff office said this:

Followed by this:
So I believe they are NOT looking specifically at Jan 11. But would be interesting to know why someone else sent that message.
Apologies in advance… how exactly did DC find contact information for the Guthries? He texted one and called a different one for 9 seconds or minutes? So this random individual living in another state obtains what I would assume to be unpublished phone numbers/email addresses (?) for at least two separate relatives of NG and this is written off as a hoax because why? Idk at this point where or even if I saw it was due to info being wrong or something in the communications? I get that there are [link removed] opportunists but I also feel there may be some credence to these letters. I’m not convinced he isn’t involved.

The grandiose displays of power and force shown by LE and FBI looks like a military parade. Is that really how LE acts on a tip? I have to honest I don’t really like “this” FBI is involved because it really looks more like the showboating I’ve sadly become used to recently. Read that how you want. I think they already solved this and this poor family is just a pawn. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this sheriff, I think he walked into a hot mess. It really doesn’t make sense to me given the high profile nature of this crime that help from much higher up wasn’t involved on day one. I’m not LE but at my job when I encounter something I have not dealt with before I don’t hesitate to ask for help. How many violent kidnappings has he been involved in? It seemed obvious as soon as the family walked in. For that matter how many crime scenes has the department even seen? They have no idea how to process or secure one? This just doesn’t make sense. I’ve seen that the FBI has to be invited. This sheriff honestly didn’t think to himself, I’m in over my head here? The family themselves didn’t think that? I mean SG called the congressman so someone must have thought this seems a little bit bigger than what they’re used to there. When the public begins pointing out that hey, you should probably not let people walk around in there or hey, look at that blue shirt anybody see that laying there? It looks like the one she had on in the picture you are using to show her. I mean. Doesn’t it just seem almost intentional? People keep calling the porch guy the keystone kidnapper, who has evaded the world, and yet you have the keystone cops traipsing through an active crime scene. So every member of this PD is what? What would you call them? Literally anyone who has seen an episode of CSI knows you don’t walk through a crime scene. I read a comment saying this department is a defense attorneys dream. No kidding. I would expect a lot of individuals who were convicted based on evidence gathered by this PD to be released given their absolute lack of integrity. I’m being facetious but not really.

Sorry. I actually had a few questions hidden in my long rant. Any answers appreciated. Much like everyone else on here I’m going back at least 40 pages a day trying to catch up.
In this interview he says that they collected evidence on first night and as FBI returns to home they are analyzing that evidence not collecting more.

🎥FULL INTERVIEW: One-on-one with Pima Co. Sheriff Chris Nanos on Day 13 of Nancy Guthrie search

-Guthrie family NOT cleared
-Controversy over tension between FBI & PCSD?
-FBI NOT collecting more evidence from Nancy's house despite being there
-Where DNA is being tested - unclear if rapid DNA testing in Tucson is still broken
-Why no media briefings after significant developments this week?
-Are we closer to an arrest or charges?
-Is this a rescue or a recovery?

I’m still stuck on SIL, but my primary reason is because he was the last person to see her. LE/SIL know when he arrived home and it would clear up the suspicion if he was publicly cleared, but there’s a reason why they haven’t. The searches at their home too, maybe only because Nancy was there Saturday night? Or other evidence we know nothing about? Would LE/FBI go through the trouble to search just to throw people off the track? I don’t think so.
I think he must have gone somewhere after he dropped NG off and that may be what is sticky, here. I hope that he has been truthful with investigators with all the details and contacts, if that is what happened. I am not excluding him and likely, investigators are not, either. If he is named as a suspect down the road, I'll be sad, but for now, everyone and no one is a suspect. JMO

@NonnaBalogna I completely agree with everything you have written. This is a mess, from my outside point of view. It is like, let's pick up any random guy people report is "suspicious". Wow.

Yes, credible leads need to be followed up on, but there should be a source of evidence before storming a person's home. I hope police have been throughly vetting everything, before acting. I am sure that the excess media attention is fueling some desperation here for LEO.

Hoping that the law enforcement is doing due diligence.

NO. We don't know that.

What was happening in NG home during that 30 mins between the Nest doorbell footage and her pacemaker disconnecting? This seems quite a long time. Were they looking for something? Were they discussing what was happening with Nancy? Did she have time to get anything to take with her? (If so, you'd hope someone would've noticed this)
I'm just trying to imagine that scene - if NG was fast asleep, it would be terrifying - and might take a while to "come to" and realise it isn't a nightmare.

  • #29,972
LE runs the DNA and then looks for familial match. If that fails then perhaps give the public more info so it can be solved. Who has uber pick up their Mother when she lives that close?

I asked AI how long it should take and the answer was 15 min

I'm intrigued. I wonder how powerful this signal sniffer is? The pacemaker rf signal is very weak (intentionally; to preserve battery) and only transmits a few feet to your bedside monitor or phone app. I wonder what they have?

Not that the FBI would tell me. IMO
Pacemakers that communicate with iPhones over Bluetooth use Bluetooth LE (low energy). Here’s an example of a device designed to identify and help locate Bluetooth LE devices at greater distances:

There are others. Bluetooth devices (even before the now-ubiquitous low-energy versions of Bluetooth) are designed to filter out noisy, low-strength signals. This device does the opposite, amplifying and cleaning them.

LE could be using a setup somewhat like this. Speculation.

Edit to add link below:

That's not accurate though. What Nanos has said repeatedly is that NO ONE has been cleared.
Maybe so, but that is what is stated in the MSN article I posted. Then again this has been one of the most unorganized, misrepresented, bizarre case I've seen in a long time.

What did you ask AI? I imagine it would depend how NG responded and what the perps wanted.

You would hope the perps (were they working for someone else?) were kind?

Well said!

I would like to add because of the circus the SO has created, people across the country are tuning out. It has even been said on here-I need to take a break from this case.

BUT---what NG and her family NEEDS is the PUBLIC to stay focused. NG and her family need all of us to stay focused.

I've been trying to keep up but things are so fast moving.. Do we know with 100% certainty that Nancy made it home the night of January 31st?

  • #29,979
Agreed. Anyone working at dealership would’ve had access to keys. Throw a dealer plate on and you’re ready to go.
If they’re getting vehicle ready for sale then you have mechanics, detailers, porters and others working to get in ready.
I thought they said it was a paper plate, like a temporary plate (registration) until the real one comes in?

I have a sincere question to ask @OldCop and @MassGuy, everyone else please feel free to respond too - If LE/FBI knows for a fact that a potential person (SIL) has been cleared by them, why not publicly announce it? Besides them having a reason why he hasn’t been cleared, would there be another reason why they wouldn’t share it? If so, what would the reason(s) be? TIA
