IT HAPPENS. Elizabeth Smart. That guy in Ohio who held those girls for years and impregnated them. . People who have kids of their own who keep them in a cage and go undetected for YEARS. Very true. Those are some great examples I must admit that I had forgotten about.

I could wrap my head around it more if it were planned. It just threw me off when they made it seem like it was a burglary gone wrong. If it was planned - I get it. They at least figured some stuff out beforehand. Although deciding to take this elderly lady on the fly - is.... complicated although obviously not impossible.
With the way the world is today I am really not shocked by much.

FBI says glove with DNA is not the one previously photographed by New York Post​

An FBI official told CNN that the glove containing DNA — which investigators believe appears similar to the ones worn by the masked individual recorded on Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera — is not the same glove previously photographed by the New York Post.

This may seem off topic, but i'm asking for understanding of the theory going around about "burglary gone wrong" Can someone step me through what does a "burglary at 2am with a person at home going right" look like? How does that even work in a burglar's mind? How do you rummage through my jewelry box or open my safe? Do you wake me up, bind me first? Then, dig around my underwear drawer looking for something? I need to understand how a nighttime home invasion works to process how and where it could go wrong.

To provide some insight into how home burglaries are carried out you may want to read up on Joesph James DeAngelo, aka “The Golden State Killer. He would break in, tie and bind up the occupants (whom were sound asleep) sometimes raping the female as well as rummaging through draws etc.
At times he would even have a snack with food from their fridge.
There are several books, “I’ll be Gone in the Dark” details his home burglaries as well as other crimes in California.

I don’t think so, but it’s a novel idea, something to think about. Like the FBI is helping to craft her Instagram statements? Very likely.
I think she and her Mom are very strong Christians and this is the way they likely think and talk.

You're on the same page that I'm on. Only reason to rob somebody in the middle of the night is if you need them to tell you--likely at gunpoint--where their valuables are. Unless perpetrator had inside information that NG had expensive jewelry, a lot of cash or some very valuable items and perp didn't know where to look, it makes no sense to me to is rob somebody in the middle of the night when the homeowner is there. How could this burglary not go wrong? MOO

Yes it happens. But those cases all involved younger more resilient victims.

I believe there is a distinction to suddenly on the spur to kidnap an 84 year old with a pacemaker who is dependent on medication. Just think of the stress burden enduring an abduction for an 84 year old cardiac compromised person vs. a young healthier person. It's not like holding an 18 year old captives and throwing them a happy meal a day. I would imagine she would be a great liability at this point they would want to cut loose.
