If he flung it out the window, the glove might have DNA on the outside because he touched the steering wheel or the interior of the car..might not be a great sample though.. ..jmoUnfortunately I have the same thoughts about the glove. And you're correct; it is definitely hard to imagine someone concealing their identity so carefully only to fling their glove out the window close to the crime scene.
Good point.Has law enforcement directly addressed the possible risk of the kidnapper harming NG to stop the
pacemaker signal? I wonder why they made the public disclosure of the "signal sniffer"?
She also mentions FBI has access to some government data bases, border patrol, ability to trace family connection with some data basis not linked to genealogy sites. We don't know if the glove is connected to the case or not. That is why they are DNA testing the glove. To rule it in or out as evidence.
I agree a glove found down the road is a bit of a stretch but perhaps it is the only lead they have. Or LE wants us to think that is the only lead they have.
I watched a video posted here with a CeCe Moore interview, she is a long time Genetic Genealogy expert and has her own company working with LE. She made it sound like LE does follow the rules and as a result has no access to the huge DNA data bases, but has a limited data base via some smaller DNA sites.
That said the larger DNA sites do appear to respond to a court order and that is something LE and the Guthrie family should request, on bended knee to the site owners and courts.
Yes a court order would only be obtaining possible DNA from a family member. Unless a criminal has DNA tested which is possible but not probable. So yes the DNA site is going to provide the DNA of a close or distant family member.
In the case of the LE DNA sites, people who upload their DNA there have to sign a consent for the police to use their DNA data. So the family of the criminal would have given consent ahead of time for LE use of their data.
In the case of Ancestry getting a court order, well no one is given an option for consent when you are looking at an order signed by a judge. No consent is necessary. You comply or suffer the consequences.
(I have been doing genetic genealogy for decades now.)
Good morning and welcome! That's a very thoughtful idea and one I have not heard discussed anywhere else. I hope LE sees your messages too!I'm new to this site, this is my first posting. I've been following this case closely and have some thoughts. I've spent the last couple days trying to communicate with the FBI then with the Pima County Sheriff via email, I have not received a reply, no idea if anyone has seen my emails. Anyway I've been trying to put myself in the villain's head and arrived at the following thoughts. This guy is also following the news very close and he sees everything we see on TV. I have no idea his initial game plan, burglary, home invasion, kidnap for ransom, the perfect crime? Whatever I would guess Guthrie is long dead and this idiot has long ago decided he's way, way, over his head and is now in survival mode, how do I not get caught? Hopefully, the FBI and Sheriff have already thought of this but the suggestion I was trying to communicate to them was to ask the community to report any small fires or smoke they have recently observed, this might even be smoke from a chimney. I'm guessing this guy would be destroying every piece of evidence he has, gloves, mask, holster, backpack, jacket, shoes, etc. This might have been done in the past week or ten + days. Maybe you've lived next door to a neighbor for the past couple years and recently you observed smoke from the chimney for THE FIRST TIME EVER! Broadcast to entire community you're looking for any recent burnings or smoke, where there's smoke there's fire and just maybe the suspect! It's a long shot but it's something......How can I, you, we, get this suggestion to the FBI or Sheriff, any thoughts?
1. It does not take an experienced genealogist weeks to build a tree for the purpose of identifying a person who is living today. You do not need to go that far back in the tree. This kind of tree can be done quickly. It is not time consuming or cumbersome.Genetic DNA is tricky and we have to hope that the person matches even a 5th cousin in the pool. THEN, a tree has to be built. This is time consuming and cumbersome. You cant just push a button and get a tree. If he matches someone as a son, a first or second cousin, a nephew, then of course , it's easier. But a tree, even a smaller one, would need to be built. The results for this is somewhere down the line, IMO Weeks..at the very best. MOO
there was a sliding door and that is my. guess. In a large house like that I think it's very possible to unintentionally leave a door or window unlocked.
He's been in law enforcement since 1976 so he is definitely not inexperienced. He's also lost a family member since this case started. IMO he has made some poor choices during this investigation and I believe he has also said that himself. However, I do not believe he is incompetent. I DO think he needs a PIO that he trusts enough to speak to media. All MOO.I am flabbergasted to wake up this morning to headlines that the whole family was cleared days ago. Then why has Nanos spent days declining every opportunity to clearly say the SIL was not a suspect? This makes no sense.
I'm sorry, this is not just an inexperienced Sheriff being blinded by the glare of trying to solve a large, heavily covered case. You don't keep going back to AG and TC's house, impound their car and ask the neighbors about them if they were cleared in the first few days. This man is incompetent. If the truth and NG are found it will be despite Nanos, not because of him. MOOoooo
Same. I'm very interested in the RR search from Culvers a few nights ago.IMO they already know or have a strong suspicion about who did this. They’re just waiting to be sure they have what’s necessary to make the arrest. Leads me to believe they have reason to think NG is either no longer alive or is at a lower risk than it may seem (abductor may be acquaintanced or sympathetic). I hope it’s the second but I will continue to hope that until we know otherwise. I think these perpetrators are likely experienced criminals but this is a leap of severity in crime. MOO
Hope we see some movement on the case today!
Interesting that it probably costs $$ for the Florida lab. The FBI? Zero. She also mentions FBI has access to some government data bases, border patrol, ability to trace family connection with some data basis not linked to genealogy sites.
She did address trying to obtain from private companies with a warrant. She stated this had never been done and would result in a court battle.
I really enjoyed her interview!!

Agree. I think LE must know when, how and why the card was put there. Investigator's name was on the card. jmoMOO on the APS card…
There has been a lot of speculation regarding that card and when it was put there both in this thread and in social media. The earliest I have found a pic or vid showing that card was BE’s video showing the blood and flower stems on the walkway and the earliest theory that I could find about it being put there before NG was taken was from someone commenting on BE’s video. The only reason given for the speculation that the card was there before NG was taken that I have found is the assumption that APS would not have left it there after NG was reported missing. I don’t think that is enough to come to that conclusion. If anyone has a pic prior to BE’s video showing that APS card, please post a link to it.
That said - even if it was there prior to her disappearance - which I doubt at this point - but even if it was - it does not necessarily mean that there was an APS investigation regarding NG or that anyone had reported anything regarding her. Because of the nature of an APS investigation I would think it unlikely that an APS investigator would leave her card on the front door where they suspect elder abuse as it could be found by the abuser rather than the victim. AND even if it was put there prior to NG being reported missing - it would not necessarily mean it was about NG - it could have just as easily been that they were investigating something reported regarding one of her neighbors or friends and that they came to NG’s to interview her and she wasn’t home and they left the card hoping she would call them so they could ask her about anything she might have observed about her friend or neighbor.
I think we can reasonably conclude that the Sheriff Dept or FBI - probably both already know exactly when the card was placed there and why. I think we can also conclude that if it led to an accusation of abuse prior to NG being taken and that led to a suspect for her disappearance that someone would have been detained and questioned by now or resulted in LE identifying the suspected abuser asking the public to help locate that person.
We haven’t seen the crime scene pics taken by the PCSD from that Sunday but my guess is that if we did, we would not see that card in the door at that time. Now if someone can link to a pic showing it on that day then I will consider that there could be something to this - but until someone can show the card was there prior to NG being reported missing, for me it is a non-issue - another of many things in this case speculated on by one person and spread on social media.
Yes CeCe has been around a long time. She made a name for herself early on in GG. Yes I am sure there are some back door ways. But the best data base is the commercial GG sites. Ancestry has over 25 million DNA samples in their data base. And has done excellent norming on various groups, and available family trees. FTDNA has the best YDNA. YDNA is important in getting a male line surname. Autosomal DNA is needed for the close matches. She also mentions FBI has access to some government data bases, border patrol, ability to trace family connection with some data basis not linked to genealogy sites.

I don't believe he is incompetent. I have read some articles from his past that have led me to not have a very high opinion of him. The handling of this case hasn't done anything to improve my opinion. MOOHe's been in law enforcement since 1976 so he is definitely not inexperienced. The reason behind my response is that you mentioned that you “wished” the FBI had paid the ransom early on and then followed up my saying that the FBI certainly has the tools to find the perpetrators of this terrible crime.I’m not really sure of what message you are trying to convey. Science and technology are okay . In fact, I believe the U.S. military and technology could find any of us any day they want to. They have had that technology a long time. There is some reason why Nancy hasn’t been found. That’s where my sadness comes from. Moo.
Fear is more than normal and acceptable for this family. When it comes to missing children and old people who are defenseless, these crimes are indefensible.
So why would you say “fear and superstition is bumping science and technology, once again”? Strange wording.
Or maybe I have misunderstood you. JMO.
I have similar feelings. I'm not about to join a fan club for him, that's for sure. I don't think he's incompetent or inexperienced or not up to the job though. He reportedly seems to have some personality/ego type conflicts with a lot of his department and other departments though which inevitably affects their ability to work together. A very mixed bag.I don't believe he is incompetent. I have read some articles from his past that have led me to not have a very high opinion of him. The handling of this case hasn't done anything to improve my opinion. MOO
