Young men don't watch The Today Show. Middle aged working men don't watch the Today Show. Burglars don't watch the Today Show. Psychopathic run of the mill kidnappers don't watch the Today Show. Sure, one of these types may have seen the Today Show in passing while switching between channels a time or two, but it isn't very likely that when he did he just happened upon the segment with Nancy. And even if one of these types did happen onto that segment, it isn't likely that he would consider the two of them 'prime pickens' for a payday when there are far more wealthy folks worth far more money, who are far more easily available, and who are far easier to manage in captivity. And probably even in Tucson. And perhaps even close by.

So what in the world is going on here? Why in the world did the perpetrator choose Savannah to fleece? And, most importantly, how did he arrive at that conclusion, and from whence?

I thought about this the first week of the case because I hadn't watched the home visit segment on the Today Show itself but had seen coverage of it on the local NBC affiliate, where they also featured associated hometown interviews that didn't appear on the Today Show. Just about anyone in Tucson could have caught that content on the local morning or evening news and taken notice.

My personal thought was also immediately that I hope it has nothing to do with all that coverage in November because my stomach turns at the thought of SG feeling as though that lovely segment put her mom in harm's way. Sadly I wouldn't be surprised by a connection there.

Maybe it fit the gun he had when arrested? In my opinion, holsters are not common for criminals to wear. I think his pockets were bogged down and this was the safer choice.

There are city lakes, which are small man made lakes. There’s also Rose Canyon Lake which is about 45 minutes away give or take.

We had a family event this weekend and was over by Nancy’s. I noted some cameras on the way particularly on Campbell and Skyline as well as on Oracle going north. (Lots going on in the car so I didn’t catch all of them.) I don’t think going west is something they would have done because of cameras and busier streets. If they went east, I there would be less detection by cameras. East could also put them going up Mount Lemmon to where Rose Canyon Lake located. I don’t remember if they have cameras on the way up there.

The terrain is rough in areas and IMO, it would be difficult to carry a body too far from the road. Not only would you have the terrain to deal with, you have wildlife too.

Yes, and it looks mountainous, as mentioned, the perp could have driven by a cliff, deposited body ( very sorry)

Even out in the flat desert, hidden behind/ under tall brush. Lots of large growth, Nobody looks behind. Use a dolly to place 30-50 ft from dirt road.

I know they had some dogs searching NG’s neighborhood, early on. I felt a little sorry for the dogs, working around cactus, of course, they would mainly alert to smell.

Many people go missing in CA, just hiking without enough water, injury, forgot phone or no service, icy fall off cliffs, get lost. Julian Sand’s body ( actor who died hiking), was found on Mt Baldy 5 months after he disappeared. Even with cell phone pings, big search parties couldn’t find, at first. Rough terrain, cliffs.

I think NG will be found in an area like this, most likely your cliff idea. JMO

Ok, So, let's go back to one perp. Car is parked somewhere? What's behind NG's home? Backyard touching her backyard? Same problem arises. manned or unmanned vehicle not belonging in the hood at 2am. Plus, IMO she was taken out the front door due to the blood droplets on the front porch.

All it took was one person peeking out the window at 2am to notice that car sitting on the street. OR someone's dog barking. Luck or what?????????? JMO

I think the neighborhood setup and other factors worked in their favor. Most people aren't up at 2 a.m., and if someone happened to look out a window, they'd likely see nothing but brush and cactus. It doesn't seem like any of those houses have a full-on street view.

Not sure she died immediately, anyway. Not sure she is dead now..but i am realistic. ASSUMING she has died, her remains have to be somewhere...sounds to me like a lot of remoteness in Arizona. Even a few yards off the trail might be enough? Stuffed in a bag..dragged behind him. Thrown in something like a wheelbarrow. Somewhere where the body could be concealed by the terrain and the flora and eventually fall prey to the wildlife. IMO, less likely thrown into a lake because bodies tend to sink first then as they decay produce gas that makes them float to the top. So, I dunno. JMO

Yeah, good points... I always think of Bill Ewasko too. Went missing while hiking in the desert, many people searched. Took 12 years to find him, and someone just stumbled upon his remains randomly. He was very close to a trailhead, he was just a bit off trail and hidden by some stone outcroppings iirc.

I fear for where Porch Guy may have put her if he did - hate to say - kill her and dispose of her body in the desert

I took a photo of this beautiful post at the banner last Tuesday and thought about sharing it here, given all the grimness of this case. Seems like a relevant moment in the conversation.

That’s beautiful…thank you for sharing. I watched Friday night’s Dateline and at the end, Lester Holt mentioned Nancy and the urgent search for her, along with love to Savannah and her family. Dateline had not been new for weeks due to the Olympics. It’s a very common conversation with people I speak with even though I don’t live near Nancy. There is so much prayer and hope for her, as well as so many unanswered questions. She is nowhere near forgotten.

If the car was parked with its lights off I don't think any of the neighbours would necessarily be even able to see it from their windows. And when driving with lights on, I'm not sure the neighbours would see anything beyond the lights

The bigger issue is other vehicles passing and I wonder if someone did actually spot something suspicious and that's why LE have been so interested in LD's RR and asking neighbours about their trucks when canvassing

Normally there aren't vehicles parked on NG's street at night.

Given his planning, I'm not sure that this perk would have parked on the street. I'd be more inclined to think that, after smashing the back lights and disabling any cameras, if he was operating alone or perhaps even with a partner, he would have pulled in the straight driveway all the way up to the back yard and temporarily obfuscated the license plate.

But, somebody either saw a truck or there was a truck on somebody's ring or nest cam since LE were asking neighbors about a truck.

LE also seems interested in cars similar to SUVs but it could just be those are the vehicles driven by AG, SG, LD and possibly CP.

It would have been smart -- and since he was big into careful planning -- to have rented a a truck or vehicle that wasn't new or particularly noticeable from a private renter. Perhaps to have rented it for a week or 2 weeks so the person renting the vehicle wouldn't make the connection. He could have gotten a fake ID, paid in cash and rented the vehicle in Phoenix or a non-Tucson place.

Given his planning, I think he used a vehicle where he thought that he couldn't be traced to that vehicle.

A lot of things with LD make sense for him to be the perp. FBI had enough on him to get a federal judge to sign a federal warrant to search his home, which has a higher bar than getting a warrant for a regular search. But, does he has the ability to plan this crime in the very meticulous and thorough way in which it was planned?

I do believe that LE and FBI have continuing to monitor him and his movements, and likely have surveillance on LD and other possible suspects.

I've read your posts repeating this statement and that's where we respectfully disagree (as do a lot of interviewed ex FBI and LEOs who have called the Nest guy "amateurish" and "bumbling".)

Ever since I've seen the footage of the Nest cam I've pointed out my take on the over-convoluted "lost in translation" gear-up and methodology of "Latanas masked man".

I've written in detail posts in this long thread on it.....from the approximation of DNA protecting PPE but using a DNA transferring Bite light (c'mon!) to a mismatched fumbling holster in a weird open carry, to a Walmart exclusive backpack with reflectors still on that glow in IR light!, To the fumbling with the latanas? To not being prepared for a common doorbell cam (spray paint, small flat screwdriver, etc) to the over-convoluted loose nitrile gloves over other gloves that would render using the firearm cumbersome at best? To the awkward rough breaking of the spotlight, and other details we know of.

This is more Breaking Bad level Jesse Pinkman tries to rob/kidnap someone than a "meticulous and thorough way" to me, which actually jives with LD's history/mentality quite well.

The Pascua Yaqui land in the Tucson area is fairly small and the Tohono O'Odham Nation southwest of Tucson is vast, remote, and mostly sparsely populated. It's possible whoever did this traveled down that way but also very likely they were nowhere near those reservations during the commission of the crime. Similarly, Navajo and Apache lands are concentrated in the far northeast of the state in the Four Corners region, several hours from Tucson. [Those aren't the only tribal nations in Arizona, of course, but same point.]

Let me add, the sorrow is palpable. They may never have a gravesite to visit. It really does seem they are really coming to grips with this. If you can ever really do that. How will this visit to the memorial by SG and family affect the perp? Can we expect some new communication? MOO
