Brian Entin update. Full text of the tweet, since media preview cuts off:

The Pima County Sheriff did an interview with NBC and says “I think the investigators are definitely closer” to finding Nancy Guthrie suspect.
Says new video of car 2.5 miles away has not been identified and they are looking at “hundreds of thousands of other vehicles.”
Says backpack may not have been purchased at Walmart. Could have been purchased secondhand.
“We have information on this case that we think is going to lead us to solving this case, but it takes time.”
"Hundreds of thousands of vehicles" - seems a bit much or is that just me..? 🤔

Statements like that are the reason I want to bang my head against the wall every time that guy opens his mouth.

Do you remember the sound Charlie Brown's teacher made? That is what I am hearing.

I'm not a big AB fan but her most recent show is interesting, and if it's accurate I think it supports the idea that they are getting close. She discussed a search for Nancy in a neighboring county that was guided by cell tower data.

Unfortunately I don't think the RR had anything to do with it. If it hit for anything, they'd likely have impounded it for any future trial. Certainly wouldn't have given it back to him so quickly at the very least.

JMO.
Agree. It must have been squeaky clean. Otherwise, they would have kept it.

I watched the LD and MD interviews. Some on here have said they lack emotion and have a flat affect, and that MD wanders in her answers.

Personally, to me, their answers and affect seem quite normal. I've been told I have a flat effect, but I can tell you I care very much for other people, I just don't show it outwardly.

And as far as the "wandering" by MD, I have a friend who is like that and you just have to tolerate it...it's just how their mind works...nothing intentionally evasive or nefarious.

These interviews are only a snippet of the way they communicate. You'd have to talk with them for awhile to see any variation of their normal way of communication.
I agree. At one point she answered a “what do you say to people who think XTZ” by saying something like, My friends have never said that to me… which shows that she didn’t fully understand that she was being given the opportunity to stand up for herself and her son on a public platform.

It’s easy to misinterpret a question while under pressure. I had a job interview last week and found that despite my preparation and significant previous experience, my thoughts got jumbled up due to how the questions were asked. Surely that’s why actual forensic interviewers learn how to navigate inherent hurdles.

Sheriff is so clearly more of a politician and absolutely not a strategically and tactically trained LE person. His language lacks precision about details.

LE needs to use a communication specialist to speak to the public on behalf of LE.

Good point in terms of handling questions under pressure. In this kind of interview, one would expect to be anxious and stressed.

Sheriff said yesterday that they were getting close but I no longer trust whether he's speaking the truth to the public or communicating with the possible suspects through his press conferences or interviews. Or just speaking hopefully.

yes! Makes total sense. Poor guy and mom are on a redemption tour of sorts. He might have a history regarding drugs but he's not a murderer. Too many people have been dragged through the mud in the last month. IMO, AB did a lot of damage. Then this guy and Carlos have been targeted by LE and the online community. Enough ! I hate seeing people kicked when they are down. Thank you @GlobeFireCandle. Excellent analysis! JMO
Targeted by LE? Maybe investigated… it’s their job.

It definitely doesn't give hope that they are narrowing it down to just a few.

Backpack - my theory long ago that the backpack was from Goodwill - or even stolen. And hundreds of thousands of vehicles? Well, of course, LE is close to finding a suspect, right? /s

With all respect Napoli, I understand your point of view but I don’t see anyone kicking him while he’s down. He is his own worst enemy imo. This man has been involved in a drug related criminal lifestyle off and on pretty much his entire life. With each arrest he has shown, imo, escalating risk behavior. He is a grown man, currently awaiting trial for his most recent arrest, and he is living and now dealing with the fallout of the sum of the choices he himself has made. No one is privy to what was in that warrant. He has been released so time will tell if he was involved in this somehow or not. For now, people can choose to take him at his word or not. Addiction is very sad and drug use can change a person. Does that make him the perp, no, absolutely not. But I’m not going to go so far as to speculate what he ( or anyone else) is or isn’t capable of doing, especially if backed into a corner. Mooo
Well-said. He has not been cleared as a suspect.

We know that a federal warrant would have had specific things that pointed the FBI toward LD.

While he may well not be the perpetrator, he is still a suspect with possible evidence that connected him to NG.

LE and FBI may end up arresting and convicting a person that we would never think would have been capable of this premeditated act of violence.

''In forensic science, Locard's principle holds that the perpetrator of a crime will bring something into the crime scene and leave with something from it, and that both can be used as forensic evidence. Dr. Edmond Locard (1877–1966) was a pioneer in forensic science who became known as the Sherlock Holmes of Lyon, France. He formulated the basic principle of forensic science as: "Every contact leaves a trace". It is generally understood as "with contact between two items, there will be an exchange." expressed the principle as follows:
Sounds logical, but apparently LE hasn't subscribed to this theory yet.

Same. At least buying the gear for this crime at a Goodwill would be the smart thing to have done. Lots of other DNA on the backpack, no trace of the purchase. JMO

That’s really tragic. 84 is a long life, but no one expects something like this to happen suddenly. Sending thoughts to her family.

  • #41,877
Cherry, fair enough but I was also including the family in my kicking people when they are down, phrase. For me, it's a reach, even if the guy has a drug history, that he and his mom should be maligned and dissected at this point. Car returned, phone returned. The law will handle his drug charges. Someone posted yesterday that he was looking to go after people for libel and slander, per his attorney. I just think it's a leap to keep beating this guy up and passive/ aggressively make some of the insinuations that are being made at this point. I agree we don't know what a person might do when backed into a corner. That, however, would then include every figure and family member that has been suspected and associated with NG. Then, nothing moves forward. MOO
I also agree with some of your sentiment @Napoli, but dude (LD)...read the room. Maybe hold off until this poor woman's fate is revealed. Damn

I think "it might take years" and "100,000s of cars" and other Nanos' quotes are intentionally misleading and designed to make us think there's nothing to see.

Yes. There would be other DNA on the backpack if previously owned. OMGoodness, horrible for an innocent. Bets are the backpack is long gone - been in the news so why would a criminal keep it?
