An 84-year-old woman who was reported missing in Arizona has been identified by officials as the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced during a news conference on Sunday that Nancy Guthrie was last seen in the Catalina Foothills area on Saturday night at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said a family member reported her missing on Sunday, around noon.

Nanos said search and rescue teams have been out at Nancy Gutherie's home, along with homicide teams and detectives.

Foul play has not been ruled out at this time.

Some info from Google on the Catalina Foothills:

Catalina Foothills is an affluent, unincorporated community north of Tucson, Arizona, known for its luxury homes, stunning mountain and city views, and low-density, suburban character. It's defined by its geography at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains, featuring custom architecture, upscale shopping, fine dining, and outdoor recreation like hiking and golf. The area is considered one of Arizona's most desirable residential areas, with a high median household income and a focus on a refined, private lifestyle.

She was last seen at her residence.

Per this article, the Pima County Sheriff's Office noted on their briefing today that, "disturbing or concerning circumstances were found at the home, prompting homicide detectives to assist in the investigation."

Praying she will be found safe.

Hmmm...they must have found some physical evidence to bring in homicide detectives to scene.

Not a lot of new information in this article, but there are several beautiful pictures of mother and daughter

That cane is pretty unique. I wonder if it was left at the home. And if not, would love to see a better picture put out there. People should keep an eye out for that cane too.

Audio is terrible so I'll do my best. Sounds like call came in at around 12pm. Brought in search and rescue, to include dogs. She's not in good physical health, but is of sound mind (no cognitive issues at all).

Scene gave them some concerns, and sheriff talks about how rare it is that they'd be out there.

Homicide detectives being there is not standard, but it's based on the scene (cryptic).

Last seen around 9:30-945 last night (Saturday).

Last seen around 9:30-945 but I couldn't make out if that was last night or this morning, so that's not helpful.
Family dropped her off at home at around 9:30pm Friday night, and then she's reported missing by noon the next day, that's a fairly quick turnaround. I wonder if she missed an appointment or something.

ETA: Or maybe she had an in-home care provider due to her mobility issues who noticed her absence and the suspicious circumstances at the scene.

Her physical health/mobility is reported to be poor, so it's likely that family checks on her frequently to see what she needs. Falls is probably a concern. I noticed her lower arm and wrist were completely bruised in one picture. They could have been calling on a regular schedule and she didn't pick up etc. Just IMO.

Yesterday's press conference is linked at the bottom is this article, for anybody who missed it.

Sheriff Nanos handled this press conference so well.

This sounds a bit ominous. LE is processing the house. SAR teams are searching for her which we will probably see escalated today on a larger scale. He mentioned checking hospitals for her a few times which is normal but it also seems like a legitimate thought that she could have ended up in one. Of course, none of this sounds good for an 84 year old woman missing from her home for over 24 hours. Darn. IMO

I saw the news this morning and came here to see if anything had developed. What a scary feeling for a family. I hope they find her safe soon.

Savannah issued a statement on Feb. 2 on behalf of their family.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.

“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-4900.”

IMO this is a measured and careful statement.

Obviously very early in this case but LE is telegraphing an expectation she will not be found in good condition (IMOO).

The Condo's at the top of East Sunrise/Skyline in Tuscon are very nice and would be considered a very safe area. I travel to the building across the street every few months for work. You would not expect random off- the street criminals here. Not that this stops anybody but... IMOO this will turn out to be a housekeeper/handyman who has caused her some harm.

I also would believe that it's very likely she would have had some type of security system. I agree it will probably be someone she knew.
