AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

If she is picked up to go to church on Sundays, even if she's using her walker, she still must be somewhat mobile to walk from the parking lot into the church.

And if she is left all alone in her house every night, she must be able to get to the bathroom, etc?
I thought of a fire and not being able to get out of the house due to her limited mobility.
She still has to get out of her house to drive to church which the sheriff said she can't do by herself.
We don't know for sure if she does drive or someone drives her.
If someone helps her to the car?

Does someone drive Nancy to church and Nancy and that someone did not show up?
Was Nancy driving herself to church?
Why were any parishioners concerned enough to call Nancy's family when she didn't show?
A church member missing a service is usually a non-event for fellow worshipers.
I can see people phoning Nancy after church to see if she's feeling ok...but to call family?
imo

the crime maps show this as a low crime area, but the sexual offender registry also shows 6 offenders in a radius not far from the residence.

I think a stranger came in. Are there any reports of break ins or attempted break- ins around her area ? I live in a nice- ish community where many incidents are kept on the DL. I mostly know because someone tells me or it’s posted on NextDoor.

Ashley Banfield talks to Pima's County Sheriff Chris Nanos. a few things to note (the Sheriff mentioned quite a few times that he can't answer specific questions/give specific details due to an active investigation):

1. It is believed that Nancy didn't leave the residence on foot or by herself; she was removed from her home (starts at 18:17 mark).

2. She's capable of driving, car is at home.

3. DNA evidence was found at the home and will be sumbitted for analysis (19:45 mark).

4 The sheriff wouldn't tell where exactly the DNA was found, only that it was found at the house. According to the Sheriff, "there are certain things in that home that we know only the intruder knows about and the things that occured and we don't want that informayion out. We need to protect..." (starts at 20:25 mark)

5. Again, the sheriff believes that Nancy was forced out of her home (24:30 mark), unknown whether she walked out or was carried out of her home by someone. However, she left her home against her will.

I watched that interview I got the feeling they have a person of interest or possible suspect and don’t want to scare him or her off JMO

This does help, I’ve been wondering why it didn’t make the news until this morning when she was reported missing at noon yesterday. I would’ve thought word would’ve gone out by Sunday afternoon or evening. But sounds like it wasn’t until last night that foul play came into the picture. So that must mean the house actually didn’t appear in disarray and possibly no blood. If the family and police would’ve seen such things upon arriving I’m sure there would’ve been more urgency and much quicker to label it a crime scene rather than wondering if she just went for a walk and got lost. Hmm…

Moo

Luminol maybe? Or some evidence of a clean up job?

If I am understanding the Sheriff's public remarks correctly, he hasn't said that his office hasn't identified a suspect but only that they are processing evidence and looking for her. Is this correct or has he said publicly that his office hasn't identified anyone as a suspect or POI?

Any of the kids have mad ex’s?

I get the feeling they don’t want the suspect to know they know who they are. Just reading between the lines of a lot of the cryptic mixed messaging.

In a photo posted Nancy with Savannah she was wearing an Apple Watch, Find Me the Apple app can be accessed on another device to locate the watch if they know her Apple ID.
(RSBM)

I was wondering about this. If her Apple Watch is paired with her phone (and it's an iPhone), they might have been able to get some info from it. Her watch would likely feed activity info (e.g. steps) to the Health app on her iPhone, so if they are able to get into her phone, they could see how late she was active, and I think could extrapolate when she took it off to go to bed. Some people wear their watches to bed for sleep tracking, and if that's what she does, she might have been wearing it when whatever happened happened. If she was, and the perpetrator wasn't well versed on watches, she might still be wearing it. But since it's not within range of her phone, it wouldn't be updating movement info.

However, if her watch is one with cellular service, it could update her location on Find My, an app that comes on iOS devices. There are two functions that the "Find My" app has that could be relevant here. (These used to be multiple apps with different names, but awhile back they were consolidated into a single app with multiple windows.)

One function is Find My (iPhone/device), which could be used to track the location of her watch from her phone. If the police can get into her phone, *and* she has her watch with her, *and* it has a cellular plan, that could possibly give some location information.

Another function in the app is Find My (Friends). It's a tracking function that you can use to track the location of another person who uses the Find My app. It's something where both people need to opt in and actively grant each other permission to see their locations. You can choose which of your devices you want to share your location from, and I think it defaults to the phone unless you specifically choose your watch. Since the police have her phone, this function might not be likely to give useful information even if she is wearing her watch. But maybe. I assume that the police know these and have looked into them.

Thinking of her and her loved ones - this must be so hard.

@ 6:00 AB said "the search and rescue has permanently stopped and unless or until there is an indication they need to reignite it"

How does this make sense to LE?

Can you help me? I have watched and read all the articles and I can find nowhere the Sheriff says she cannot drive to church by herself. (maybe it's the semantics of some article) I'm sorry to ask, but I'd really like to know where that is because I know a lot of not normally abled people and they vary as to what they are capable of. Most drive better than they can walk. And again, limited mobility is relative. She would not be running out of the house during a fire most likely, but that doesn't mean she could not hobble her way out just fine.

But it is true we don't know how she was supposed to arrive at church on Sunday. Just that she didn't arrive on Sunday and was expected to.

I don't think anyone has actually said that his office hasn't identified anyone as a suspect or POI. I think they ran all around that mulberry bush.

Did I see something about betweeqn 1 and 4am? Might that be from pacemaker alerts - when she was first woken till (I pray not) when she passed. :(

I do NOT like the thought of DNA they found.... I mean, I am glad cause Othram can solve that quickly. But I don't like the thought of why they have DNA. 😢 Why are some people so disgusting and cruel?

Sheriff : The indications at the home were so suspicious, unusual and unsettling they knew it was a criminal investigation.

"Our department has established a Tip Line QR code to streamline the sharing of information. Through this link, Missing Endangered Adult, members of the public can directly submit photos or videos that may be helpful to the investigation," Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Angelica Carillo said in an emailed news release in the evening of Feb. 2.

I'd like to believe if something did happen, she picked up that cane and whacked whoever it was and they have his blood.

I think I know what you're thinking. But it's also possible that the DNA might come from something else besides semen. For instance, the suspect could've touched something on the door while breaking in, or that they could've smoked a cigarette and gotten saliva on it, or something like that.

Just have to jump ahead for a few minutes (so many great ideas) but this bothers me because I have many elderly clients. Has a "relative/relatively new" younger person been spending time with Nancy....maybe too much time? Has Nancy recently been asked for money by this "new person.?" Or did they borrow money with promises of repayment which never came? Was Nancy getting ready to "call police" or tell someone or some agency that she was feeling financially victimized? Did she recently terminate or intended to terminate the services of someone who frequented the property? Pool, housekeeping, gardeners, pest control, monthly tank or water servicing? Did someone recently ask for cash instead of check? (I have seen this tactic used by a perp just to see if the victim keeps a lot of cash on the property. They stay at the front door and their accomplice is watching through a back window to see where the victim keeps their cash.) A recently released "sx offender" moved in the neighborhood....who does the parole officer see in the area?!!!!
