AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

I would have thought that in their position I would have called LE sooner rather than later. But I guess we're all different.
My guess is that they arrived and found the door open and her car there, so their first thought was that she had fallen somewhere on the property. Likely, they rushed to search the yard for her before they went inside. Once they went inside and she wasn't there, the family called 911 because she had vanished, or because she had vanished and there was something disturbing inside the home. Since their first thought on arriving at the house was that she was down somewhere on the property, emergency help might not have been required.

The sheriff also told NBC that, while investigators are not ruling anything out, Ms. Guthrie’s relationship to her famous daughter is not a main part of the investigation.

Why aren't they saying what they saw on the cameras and doesn't the family have access to Mom's cameras? Saw where family said nothing suspicious when they went to check on Nancy and now police say it's a crime scene???????I just heard the sheriff saying this certain things that they cannot release because only the intruder, perpetrator would know the info. He also stated They have submitted some sort of DNA for inspection. I'm wondering if she still has that black dog that she was holding in 1 of the photos. it's possible the dog could have been killed. This poor woman I can't imagine what she has gone through and what she is going through.

Nancy Guthrie, although having ambulatory difficulties, does not appear to be a feeble shut in. Just looking at photos she must have an eye doctor/optometrist, personal physician, drug store/pharmacy, hair & nail salon (the salons always have the latest info and know when a woman is "uncomfortable" with current life), gas up her vehicle, church activities, dog grooming/food (Lrg black poodle), vet appts.
The constant appeal, "she needs her medication"... does that give anyone else the feeling it is an appeal to the abductor's humanity? Maybe even a message to someone who has cared for or should have cared for Nancy or another elderly relative in the past? Pushing thoughts.... a male who lived/cared for his elderly parent in the past? Oh Lord what ever has occurred: "You don't have to be the cause of her death. Just call us and tell us where she is." Such haunting words. I hope they are heard.
owever she got there, she must've been a very regular attendee if they were concerned enough by her not showing up to call her children

I agree with you @Strangeworld

Also she had lived in this house for years I believe - she will have memories there. Sometimes with older people the worst thing you can do to them is move them - it can often quicken the aging process imo.

It sounds like the family visited a lot and also had many support workers in place to assist her living at home.
I had read it was since 1970s she lived there.

Not much more information this morning than was available yesterday. Police seem to be going through the data to find a hint about what happened. Video, Plate Readers, Cell Phones, Tips. I had expected to see a snippet of video of a car caught at one of the intersections, perhaps they don't have it, or they don't need the public to track it down.

A priority for investigators right now is downloading security footage from the house, he said. Private companies such as Google and Apple have also been offering assistance, the sheriff said.

Officials are urging the community to help, asking neighbors to look through video footage from their homes and call in any suspicious activity. Any bit of information could help investigators piece what happened together, he said.

“I need this community to step up and start giving some calls, let us know if you’ve seen something,” Nanos said.

The sheriff’s department set up a tip line for people to submit videos or images that may be useful to the investigation, and a reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Authorities are also looking through digital evidence, including by using a license plate reader and scrubbing surveillance video. It is unclear whether a vehicle was involved, Nanos said.

Police have Guthrie’s cell phone and are looking through that as well, Nanos said.
New info today is that Savannahs sister had dinner with the mother the night prior and dropped her off. Before it was said that “friends” from church dropped her off. So thats new

Have we heard anything about Savannah’s brother?

Thanks for bringing the convo back to the investigation.

I'm leaning toward someone who knew of her but not in a close circle, perhaps a relative of a caregiver or other support staff (but not the staffmember himself).

I lean away from a random stranger because I don't think a stranger would bother taking the person but would do harm in the house and leave.

I'm also not thinking relative but have no reason for that. Just wanting to avoid thinking about that additional heartbreak I suppose.

Thanks for the list - good items to ponder.

If this was a "take me to the ATM" situation, LE would know that by now.

If this were a ransom situation, we wouldn't be hearing anything for LE, the FBI would lock it down, or be doing the talking.

The longer this goes on, the more out-of-the-box LE is going to need to think.

Speculating: Like the Brown University scenario- a person from the way distant past? A person who wanted to derail something her daughter was working on, or exact some revenge on her? A person who thought her daughter lived there? I can't help but think that of all the retirees living in Tuscon, this person picked her???

i believe this is very very common--especially when you have lived in the same locale for 50 years!!!

Regular attendance at church services, and other regular social gatherings build expected behaviors.
I have been in similar situations where someone 'did not show up", and worried quite a lot until we knew why they were missing.
It is just a strong comraderie of loving relationships...
Totally, my grandad is 91 and has been going to the same church for at least 50 years! It's really the anchor of his community

Have we heard anything about Savannah’s brother?
Its reported now that her son in law was the last to see her and “checked in on her”

Thinking about her having a car, but also her family picking her up and dropping her off on that Saturday before she went missing. I think it's reasonable to think she could drive short distances maybe to church or a dr. appointment during the daytime and maybe not want to drive at night or for longer distances. Maybe her daughter picked her up because of the distance or simply because she would be out past dark? Maybe she drives herself to church if it's only a few miles away? IMO

I wonder if Ms. Guthrie ever spent the night at with her kids at their houses. What if this person broke in thinking that there was nobody home and was surprised to find Ms. Guthrie there? Still doesn't make sense to take her though. She couldn't chase after the person; she wasn't going to overpower the person or anything. Why not just leave if you realize someone is there?

Hopefully something breaks today. I can't imagine how the family is feeling. I can't imagine what anyone would want to abduct an elderly person for. Most of the things I can think of just don't make much sense here.

Can someone help me with a link or source? I’m behind and haven’t read every comment on the thread but I see several comments referencing the family going into the house and calling 911 after an hour. This is not info I have seen elsewhere - just in the comments. I’m sure that you all know where the info came from and it’s probably on this thread somewhere but I can’t find the first comment that references it - just comments from enough of you that make me think I should have found it by now lol. So could one of you help me out and post a link to that source again please?

"Guthrie was reported missing by family members about noon Sunday after family members had spent about an hour searching for her before calling 911, Nanos said Monday."

Do you have a link for that? Cannot find it anywhere

Was there any sign of forced entry? If not, who had a key? Housekeeper? Handyman? Relative?Someone waiting when she came home? No car? Dragmarks? Did she have sensor lights outside? If not, why not...? so many simple questions...
The more the sheriff speaks the more he muddies the waters.
imo

"Investigators also do not believe it was a home invasion or robbery gone wrong, Nanos told MS NOW, adding they’re not dismissing that possibility, either."

85K was a lot in 1975. Pristine landscaping and such. Looks like there is an apartment near the pool. Maybe just a cabana but I’m wondering if she ever had any help that lived there.

Well... I was thinking 85K could be neutral, actually.. Arizona was already a strong retiree location.
I bought a house on an acre of land, on a lovely lake for 85K in 1983...not Arizona but still.

Sheriff told Ashley that the family was there for about an hour looking around before they called LE.
Waiting an hour makes no sense since Ashley said the sheriff said this about the house's condition.

: "The indications at the home were so suspicious, unusual and unsettling they knew it was a criminal investigation."
It might have been less than an hour. People are bad at estimating time, especially under stressful circumstances.

I’m convinced @MassGuy is the perpetrator in most of the cases he follows, he’s just too spot on most of the time 😂
And he’s been that way as long as I’ve been on the boards. (His badge does not reflect the correct amount of years he’s been here). When I didn’t have time to follow a case completely, sometimes I would filter to read MassGuys comments only. :-)

Do you have a link for that? Cannot find it anywhere

I have assumed since she was out for dinner with Daughter Anne (and I believe her Partner), that she would have just been "dropped off" not "lookin in after".

We are moving too fast with so much confusing information.
We really do need links of verification.
I think we are allll feeling anxious , like this is our own mother..........

I never saw the "friends from Church".... where did you see that???
I've only seen dinner with daughter all the way along....
However, I am not sure, Anne's partner was with them for dinner, but thinking he probably was???
But I must say imo...moo on that one.

I haven't followed very many kidnappings. However, I'd think that all of this communication (interviews, posts on social media) would be designed to get the suspect to act in a certain way.

To me, that does point towards investigators thinking that she's alive. No real reason to cajole a kidnapper if they've already murdered their victim, IMO.

A couple questions, then -

If the public insistence that they don't have a suspect is designed to keep the kidnapper calm (avoiding panic and pressure that could lead to a murder), what's the next step? Do they offer the kidnapper a way to return NG? Wouldn't the kidnapper be caught then too? Is the appeal to the kidnapper just that they'll be caught either way and it's better to be caught as a kidnapper than a murderer?

Does that ever work? I would think it requires a level of rational thought that most violent criminals wouldn't have. They're already pretty deep into this at this point, IMO.

Alternatively, do you think the cops are just buying time to find NG themselves?

What an awful situation for NG and her family. Hoping for a best case resolution.

MOO
